Amid a sea of gaudy and ambiguous designer handbags, MZ Wallace purses stand out with their utilitarianism. Founders Lucy Wallace Eustice, a former Harper's Bazaar editor, and Monica Zwirner, a fashion stylist and interior designer, met through the fashion industry. Turns out, they had the same vision; they both realized that luxury consumers weren't about to give up their Birkins for newcomers.

They also knew that women who spent thousands on bags also want a less serious option. MZ Wallace bags are relatively inexpensive (from $225 to $350) compared to many labels out there and are made of high-quality Italian nylon. They can all be purchased online through their site.

A color combo for the more daring, I have always enjoyed pairing two of my favorite colors: red & purple. The deep, vibrant, blue-hued colors create a funky yet exotic synergy; I wear them with dark denim or black. This color combo was big on the runways of the Spring collections of both Prada and Gucci - can you dig it?

I'm surprised purple majesty doesn't turn up on more red carpets. The color of royalty - and creativity - is both beautiful and unique. Several screen sensations decided to don my favorite color and the results were just lovely. Dana Delaney chose a beaded bodice Basil Soda Couture gown in a rich dark grape, while others flirted with higher hemlines, floral details, and plunging necklines. Source: WireImage

The 2009 Glamour Women of the Year awards in NYC celebrated the industry's most powerful women. Rihanna went for high drama, but Stella McCartney played it nonchalantly cool. The designer walked the red carpet in a look from her Resort line: a purple silk frock, a cropped black collarless jacket, and black pumps. Never one to go overboard with accessories, Stella added a touch of sparkle via diamond drop earrings. Perfection.

Primetime Emmy Awards: Kimora Lee Simmons

K.L.S. sure knows how to ham it up on the red carpet! She blows you a kiss, and then steps back and lets you give her the old look up and down. I've already looked, and I'm loving the purple! Not such a fan of the asymmetrical strapless and sleeveless neckline, but the cape-like detail in the back is definitely fun! What do you all think?

Leighton Meester in Bright, Oversize Houndstooth: Love It or Hate It?

Leighton Meester is no stranger to pushing the fashion envelope. For the screening of 500 Days of Summer in NYC, the Gossip Girl donned an oversize houndstooth shift dress and slick snakeskin peep-toe booties. The red and purple combo is a bold choice - I love it - but I think strappy sandals would look better with this outfit. What do you think of her in-your-face ensemble?

These New York & Co. Floral Pencil Skirts ($12, originally $40) totally remind me of Thakoon. In fact, the cranberry colored one reminds me of Michelle Obama's red and purple Thakoon frock. I can't decide which version I like best, they're all so pretty.

Here's why you need one (or all three): they're a modern alternative to the basic black pencil skirt, they're super inexpensive, and they're the perfect rich hues for Fall. To counterbalance the fanciness, I would wear one with a gray tee and a faux fur collar scarf. And if the length is too stuffy for you, chop it or wear it as a paperbag skirt!
