2010 Spring Milan Fashion Week Fab Roundup!

Even under a scrunched time line, Milan Fashion Week stunned with numerous beautiful collections. In this roundup, I highlight some of my favorite designers, including Versace, Ferragamo, Fendi, and Armani, to name a few. I admit, Dolce & Gabbana's collection was my favorite, but that's not stopping me from showing you Bottega's soft and swirly frock, Gucci's cut-out wonder, and Emilio Pucci's magical prints. I can't seem to resist this tropical bohemian masterpiece from Etro. Simply a-mazing.

Roberto Cavalli, Made-to-Measure Man

Just a day after saying he doesn't pay attention to costs, Robert Cavalli has announced he is starting a made-to-measure service in a special private space above the Rue Saint-Honoré store called Roberto Cavalli Saint-Honoré. Well-to-do clients can now order handmade wedding, cocktail, and evening dresses, starting at $41,950 for a cocktail dress. But Cavalli is not going into the couture business; this service is simply an extension of his current red carpet and special events offerings. Let's gaze at the fruits of labor . . . even if we can't afford them.

All the Boys Love Anne Hathaway

Anne Hathaway and Mary-Kate Olsen put on their best party dresses for the Annual Winter Dance at the American Museum of Natural History in NYC last night. Anne dressed for the theme in her Winter white number while Mary-Kate was just trying to keep warm. Ms. Hathaway arrived on the arm of Raffaello Follieri of course, but she also welcomed Roberto Cavalli as a second date, saying, "It's nice to have two men fawning over you." Anne certainly isn't shy about bragging about all the male attention she's been getting these days, but it's starting to rub us the wrong way.

Cavalli Parties with Kanye at the Opening of his Paris Store

Last week Cavalli revealed his plans for World domination which began last night with the launch of his Just Cavalli store in Paris. The party was part of Paris Fashion Week which is currently taking place in the French Capital.
Celebrities such as Dita von Teese, and Kanye West with his wife Alexis Phifer were on hand to help him party, although it looks like he's having enough fun on his own! Cavalli dressed a number of women for the Oscar's red carpet including Kelly Preston, Jennifer Hudson and Heidi Klum. The new store is at 50, Rue Faubourg St Honoré, Paris.

Project Runway Rundown: Episode 11, "The Art of Fashion"

Then there were five. And though we know all five show at Bryant Park, you can rest assured that Project Runway is going the traditional route and only airing the top three. You'll have to read who was eliminated after the jump, but what a shocker!

On to the episode, the designers got their first non-sponsored challenge in a while, and what a welcome change of pace. Instead of designing a look for Levi's or Hershey's, the team was lead by Tim to The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Inside, they received their challenge: to create an outfit inspired by a work of art. And because the Met is so big, Tim narrowed the galleries to choose from to three: the Greek and Roman sculpture courtyard, the European painting wing, and the Temple of Dendur. Certainly a smidge more highbrow than last week's wrestling diva challenge.

One of the best parts about last night's challenge is that we got to see not only what each designer created, but also what piece of art he or she chose as inspiration. The two most obvious translations came from Rami, who chose a sculpture of Aphrodite with a draped toga (yawn), and Chris, who was inspired by a painting of an 18th century noble woman. The rest went a little more non-traditional. Christian's muse was a painting of a Spanish man, while Sweet P used a painting of a peacock. Jillian, meanwhile, picked a painting with a group fighting scene. She felt that this would help her "express a certain edgy side of [her]self." Yeah, sure, Jillian.

Before we get to the looks, let's talk about how hilarious it was that Chris took a nap during the final challenge. I mean he took a nap, snores and all. Speedy seamster Christian was done too, but even he continued "touching up, snipping threads." After he was awoken from his nap, Chris chatted with Tim about his gown, and Tim expressed his concern that it wasn't refined enough. Tim seem less worried about the rest of the designers, but from what I could see of Sweet P's look, I was surprised it wasn't a bigger topic of conversation.

Another side note: Has Tim Gunn ever been less relevant to a season of ProjRun? Most of the designers (Sweet P excepted) just take his feedback and kind of say "Sure, Tim, whatever, I like it my way."

On to the last runway challenge before the finale. The special guest judge was Roberto Cavalli, and along with Heidi, Nina, and Michael, he had plenty to say about the final looks. If anything, he was a bit too complimentary, but there wasn't a lot to fault with this challenge.

Sweet P - To be fair, Sweet P's dress turned out a lot cuter than I had expected. But, my expectations were rather low. In her defense the judges applauded her peacock-inspired dress for its commercial appeal, just not for its wow factor. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to keep her in the running. Surprisingly, I'm sad to see her go.
Jillian - She created a gold dress with a black blazer for her final look, and it was quite stunning. It was enough to impress all of the judges. Roberto even said he'd be very happy to have her on his staff. She's in. I kind of feel like Jillian should only ever make coats; they're always great.
Christian - Christian won the challenge with his multi-piece outfit. Though I didn't love the look, it certainly had drama, and he was applauded for both his showmanship and his ability to think practically. His "super, super chic" look got him the win and a trip to Bryant Park. I'm not shocked.
Rami - Rami went the traditional drapery route, and he was faulted for playing it safe yet again. The judges wanted to see something different from him, and I couldn't agree more. But ultimately, Rami's taste level and consistency were enough to triumph his one-notedness. He's in. Sort of.

So that means Chris is out, right? Right?

Chris - Chris is . . . in! Say what? The judges liked Chris' gown, but they thought that it looked too much like his avant garde dress from episode eight. I agreed, but the beauty of his dress last night was undeniable. Plus, how can you fault a man who's made two similar looks, when all of Rami's have looked the same?

In the end, both Rami and Chris are creating a collection for fashion week because the judges were deadlocked and couldn't decide between the two. However, only one will be truly competing in the final episode. When Chris and Rami come back to New York, they will show the judges their three strongest looks, and whoever wins that will compete with Jillian and Christian. Wow. Nice twist, ProjRun.

The Spice Girls Are Front and Center For Roberto

The Spice Girls took a break from the stage to watch their friend and costume designer Roberto Cavalli show off his art at the Milan menswear runway show on Sunday. Victoria dressed appropriately for the event in a fitted suit and that headband that so makes her look like a '90s Posh Spice. In fact, I feel like all the girls are looking more and more like their ten-years-ago selves especially up against that Cavalli understated leopard-print backdrop. As for Victoria's husband taking to the streets in any of Cavalli's newly unveiled creations - I'm hoping he sticks to his Armani.

Fab Ad: Roberto Cavalli Spring/Summer '08

Even when Roberto Cavalli softens up his designs, his ads still exude fierce sexuality. Such is the case for the brand's Spring/Summer 2008 ads featuring modern Botticelli angels Kate Moss, Daria Werbowy, and Eva Herzigova. Zebra prints have been replaced by flowers, keyholes by ruffles; but Cavalli's signature feathers and flowy frocks still abound. I'm captivated by these ads because they're ethereal but by no means innocent. The frocks are pretty and the models raw. The neon swimming pool lights in the background complement the hues of the clothes as well. Well, what do you think?

TV Teens Are Taken by Wintuk

The newest Cirque du Soleil show, Wintuk, premiered at MSG last night bringing out some of our most favorite new TV stars - Blake Lively and Ed Westwick (Serena and Chuck) from Gossip Girl. In case you missed all the in depth coverage of last night's episode (which was amazing, btw), check it out here. Also out to see the whimsical new show was Abigail Breslin, Leelee Sobieski's tights and cute Hunter Parish, who plays Silas on Weeds. There's no fun like watching a few good hours of crazy, crazy flexible people bouncing around in elaborate costumes, right?

Karl and Cleo Party Down on Halloween

Roberto Cavalli threw a big Halloween party for all his friends at Cipriani in NYC last night, bringing out some excellent costumes on beautiful people. Cavalli hilariously dressed up as Karl Lagerfeld, though I must say that he's got nothing on our Karl. Fresh off becoming the newest member to the outing Jennifer Lopez as pregnant club, Roberto seemed to be in joyous spirits throwing his soirée. His friend Petra Nemcova had a blast at the party dressed as Cleopatra while John Legend went with some standard pirate fare. What's up with the no costume Eve? Weak. As expected, Ice T and Coco kept things so so very classy. I wonder how Karl feels about Roberto's homage?

Halle, Sharon & Bar Celebrate H&M's Newest Designer

Roberto Cavalli had a nice entourage of ladies to help him launch his new H&M collection in Rome last night. Halle showed off her bump a little more than she did the other night in London, but she decided to keep some of her other assets covered up this time around. Sharon Stone managed to somehow look pregnant as well, while Leo's ex girlfriend Bar looked like the gorgeous model that she is. We think the collection looks pretty awesome, but check out Fab's sneak peek and decide for yourself.

Roberto Cavalli at H&M Collection Revealed!

It's been a busy week for Roberto Cavalli! The Fab ad campaign for his collaboration with H&M appeared earlier this week, and now the lookbook for the entire collection has surfaced. As expected, leopard spots, zebra prints, and sequins are all over, and the color palette stays in the black, white, and gold range. The standout dress looks to be this gold flapper number, which Cavalli designed with Kylie Minoque in mind.

He is officially launching the collection at the H&M in Rome today, and will be in Manhattan for the US launch next Tuesday. The date I'm really looking forward to, however, is November 8, when we all have access to the collection in store!

Up next on Mr. Cavalli's plate? He's putting together the costumes that he designed for the Spice Girls reunion tour, set to kick off November 15 at the Victoria's Secret fashion show in LA.

Fab Ad: Roberto Cavalli at H&M

Roberto Cavalli is synonymous with nightlife: bold animal prints, party-ready dresses and gowns, and of course, lots of glamour. When it was announced that he is doing a holiday collection for H&M, I hoped to see all three. I'm happy to say it looks like I won't be disappointed; if these ads for the collection are any clue, there will be more than enough glitz and glamour to go around - at affordable prices, too!

I'm dizzied by stripes and spots, and what a Fab gold flapper dress! The ads, shot by Terry Richardson, really embody a fun, carefree life, and they make me want to hoof it down to H&M on November 8. What about you?

Milan Fashion Week, Spring 2008: Roberto Cavalli

A few feather-clad pieces in this Spring collection were very Roberto Cavalli, but surprisingly, the majority were not. I'm glad to see Cavalli expanding his repertoire to include sweet gals, not just wild things. For the latter, the feather trench coats, vests and pants will satiate their sassy appetite. As for the more demure, they will love all the floral details that Cavalli plastered on his floor-length gowns, pant suits and boho button-down dresses. The color palette of this collection was muted: lilacs, whites, purples, greens, peaches. The only bright hues were from the large floral patterns on the evening gowns.

Old Hollywood glamazons had a place in this collection, too. A few flapper-esque and metallic dresses were seen and very were reminiscent of The Great Gatsby.

Cavalli Parties With His Famous Friends

Roberto Cavalli unveiled his new Manhattan store on Friday evening, bringing out tons of celebs in town for NY Fashion Week. The man of the hour had a blast with all his famous friends from Tyra to Mena and every Simpson sister in between. While I admire and appreciate Jessica's fantastically toned figure, this dress is a little severe for her, but Ashlee looked great (she's so little these days). Jennifer Lopez looked well-prepared for the sun. Diane Kruger was a highlight as always with the other half of her impossibly cute coupling, Josh, by her side, but what - pray tell - is he doing with that scarf/bandanna? I'm just impressed that all these stars are still standing after all this week's action. Just ask Fab & Bella - there's so much Fashion Week fun yet to come!

Mischa, Edie & Samuel L. All Save the Children!

Fashion wasn't the only thing Rocking last night, elsewhere in Manhattan celebs were gathering for a Save the Children charity event. Mischa managed to make both parties, hob nobbing with the likes of Julianne Moore, Samuel L. Jackson, Edie Falco and President George H. W. Bush. Edie looked especially radiant on the red carpet out to celebrate some awesome casting news - she's returning to the small screen for a three episode guest starring gig on 30 Rock! Yay! She is definitely living every week like shark week!

Sneak Peek! Roberto Cavalli at H&M!

November 8 may be a ways away, but the first photos of Roberto Cavalli's collection for H&M are already making an appearance. These specific pieces are a bit more toned down than I was expecting from Mr. Cavalli - there's no zebra print to be seen yet - but there is the requisite leopard-bibbed shirt, and a giraffe jacket can be seen in the background.

There's also a great little black trench, and Cavalli accessorizes with cigar hanging out of his mouth: all the better to work with, I guess! These pictures will have to satiate my curiosity for now, but hopefully more will leak soon...

Milan Fashion Week, Fall 2007: Roberto Cavalli

Hot stuff! The Fall Roberto Cavalli collection gave me a nice afternoon awakening. There is no doubt as to why Cavalli is a red carpet favorite....

Flowing, sexed up gowns belted at the waist, in addition to a low plunging neckline, are fan worthy. The warm tones made for a happy, sunshiney runway. Opulence was abundant with leather, fur, reptile skins, silk and leopard prints. An awesome art nouveau print was a lovely addition. There was a Grecian touch, as well as 70s and 80s seduction and power dressing. There were many metallics but this is one collection where I didn't mind it because it just works with the raw sensuality of Cavalli. Interesting to note: I thought this was a glammed up version of the Marc Jacobs Fall show with the Yves Saint Laurent references and bold suiting - Does anyone agree?

I have one issue though: jodhpurs? This is one fashion item that does not play well on this runway!
