Rock the Vote Ads - New Christina vs. Vintage Madonna?

Christina Aguilera's much talked about Rock the Vote ad premiered yesterday and exactly as advertised it features her tender singing with a flag-swaddled Max in her arms. On Larry King Live last month, Christina talked about how her spot was inspired my Madonna's Rock the Vote ad from 1990, which has a decidedly different feel but the same ultimate message. Christina Wraps Her Kid in a Flag to Rock the Vote - Wrong?

New mom Christina Aguilera is politically active - and getting her son involved early - by appearing with him in an ad for Rock the Vote due out this summer. The message of the ad is great - but is the image chosen to trumpet the cause reason to sound the alarm?
Aguilera's son appears in the ad, swaddled in the American flag.

Aguilera said of her decision to make the ad, "This election in particular is such an exciting and historical one, and so I was proud to have my son and I stand together for such a powerful moment and message in time." Rock the Vote, which turns 18 this year, isn't a stranger to controversial imagery. Madonna made a similar Get Out the Vote ad in 1990 showing the Material Girl wrapped in a flag of her own. Is this just what's required to get the young 'uns attention?

Though this rule from USFlag.org is quite clear, "The flag should never be used as a receptacle for receiving, holding, carrying, or delivering anything," does the fact that she possibly did it to bring attention to the cause of voting make it less outrageous? Rock the Vote has given out 850,000 voter registration cards this year. Is that a good trade off?

Simply Fab: Rock the Vote T-Shirts

I've never been much of a T-shirt gal, but with all this buzz around the 2008 presidential election candidates, I think it's important to show we're in the know through fashion. These Rock the Vote Tees ($44 each), are stylish enough for us fashion-conscious Fabbies. They come in bright and neutral colors, depending on your support style. Plus, they kind of remind me of the popular House of Holland fashion groupie tees. My fave is the Hillary You Go Girl Tee because it's sassy and smart. I wonder which one CitizenSugar would rock?

Carrie, Rihanna, Katy, Fergie, and More Get Sexy on the Grammys Red Carpet

Music's leading ladies and more famous faces brought their best looks to the Grammys red carpet in LA tonight. Julianne Hough posed in a strapless Kaufman Franco gown while Alicia Keys chose a simple black dress and arrived on the arm of husband Swizz Beatz. Adele, who is nominated for six awards, wore a custom Giorgio Armani gown. She's taking the stage at this evening's show to perform for the first time since undergoing surgery to repair damaged vocal cords late last year. Fellow performer, Rihanna, brought the sexiness in a backless Armani number, which she helped design.

Neutrals were a big trend on the carpet with Kate Beckinsale stepping out in a cream Zuhair Murad mini and country star Miranda Lambert in a similarly hued lace Pivoni gown. Miranda joined her husband, Blake Shelton, on the carpet. Kelly Osbourne sparkled in Tony Ward with her light purple hair. Best country song and best country solo performance winner Taylor Swift rocked a high-neck Zuhair Murad as she awaits the news on her third nomination.

Nominee Carrie Underwood kept the sparkle coming in a long sleeve white gown by Gomez-Gracia. She'll hit the stage for a duet with Tony Bennett at tonight's show. Katy Perry, who is nominated for two Grammys, switched up her usually edgy appearance with a subtle blue Elie Saab that matched her bright hair, while Fergie showed skin in a hot orange lace Jean Paul Gaultier that revealed her black undergarments. Lady Antebellum's Hillary Scott brought a touch of color with her purple Monique Lhuillier gown.

Alicia Keys chose a super structured Alexandre Vauthier LBD, but it was her close attention to edgy add-ons that made this sleek ensemble pop. Her "Bis Un Bout" Christian Louboutin ankle-strap pumps featured PVC-infused panels, which evoked a futuristic feel, while her chunky geo-shaped gold choker injected a fierce attitude. Award season saw another glamorous night with the Screen Actors Guild Awards in LA this evening. Stars from both the big and small screens brought even more great looks with plenty of ladies stepping out in neutrals. Presenter Zoe Saldana glowed in a white Givenchy Couture gown straight from the Paris runways while Bridesmaids' Kristen Wiig chose a Balenciaga halter. Viola Davis, who won best actress and best picture for The Help, got gorgeous in a strapless Marchesa and her winning costar Octavia Spencer donned Tadashi Shoji. The Good Wife's Julianna Margulies wore a custom beaded Calvin Klein Collection as she arrived on the arm of her husband Keith Lieberthal.

There were a few fun pops of color this evening, including a group that matched the carpet in red. Best actress nominee Michelle Williams looked sweet in a lace Valentino gown and Lanvin clutch and Kyra Sedgwick showed skin in a cutout Pucci that displayed her rib tattoo of her family's initials. Modern Family's Sofia Vergara continued her sexy streak in a strapless pink Marchesa dress and Lorraine Schwartz jewels, which were front and center when she took the stage with her costars to accept the best TV comedy ensemble statue. Emily Blunt got bright in a green Oscar de la Renta next to husband John Krasinski, and The Help's Jessica Chastain went with a bold blue Calvin Klein.

Angelina Jolie led the pack of black looks in a slinky Jenny Packham gown and Ashlee Simpson followed suit in a sequin number by the same designer when she arrived with boyfriend and Boardwalk Empire nominee Vincent Piazza. Emma Stone mixed things up with a short McQueen and 30 Rock's Tina Fey went strapless in Versace. Melissa McCarthy, who was nominated for Bridesmaids, joined the dark-hued dresses in navy Badgley Mischka. Shailene Woodley was a vision in lilac Marchesa on the Golden Globes red carpet, but she opted for something more minimalist-chic for the post-ceremony festivities. Showing up to the InStyle afterparty in a black, one-shoulder, floor-length number, she did nothing in the way of accessories, choosing instead to rock pink nail polish, a low messy bun, and comfort-minded toe shoes. The Ladies Bring Their Most Glamorous Gowns to the Golden Globes Red Carpet

The red carpet at last night's Golden Globe Awards was filled with stars in their finest looks. Charlize Theron stole the show in a gorgeous Dior gown while Kate Winslet, who picked up the award for best actress in Mildred Pierce, posed in a black and white look by Jenny Packham. Angelina Jolie arrived on the arm of Brad Pitt in a neutral Atelier Versace with a pop of red. Presenter Kate Beckinsale wore Roberto Cavalli for her turn on the carpet with husband Len Wiseman and Fashion Star's Nicole Richie got glamorous in a beaded Julien Macdonald number and a House of Harlow clutch.

Red was a hot color this evening with presenter Reese Witherspoon in a sexy, fitted Zac Posen and George Clooney's girlfriend, Stacy Keibler, in a brightly hued Valentino gown with a bow detail. Natalie Portman went bright in a pink Lanvin after spending the weekend with her family in Santa Monica. The Help's Viola Davis showed leg in Emilio Pucci and Emma Stone broke away from her green streak with a two-tone Lanvin look.

Things took a dark turn with a group of ladies choosing classic black for the big event. Rooney Mara, who was nominated for best actress in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, continued her run of daring ensembles with a cutout Nina Ricci. Mila Kunis presented the best supporting actor award with Gerard Butler in Dior while Julianne Moore went with a strapless Chanel. One of the evening's winners, Claire Danes, showed skin in a backless J Mendel and presenter Salma Hayek rocked an edgy Gucci as she arrived with husband Francois-Henri Pinault.

There was more color mixing up the carpet with Modern Family's Sofia Vergara in a blue fishtail Vera Wang and Kelly Osbourne in a Zac Posen gown of the same hue. My Week With Marilyn winner Michelle Williams accepted her statue in a velvety Jason Wu while Melissa McCarthy took her turn in front of the cameras in a green Badgley Mischka and Evan Rachel Wood wowed in a Gucci Premiere halter.
