Fashion to Interiors: Caramel Leather, Animal Prints, and Metallic Accessories

I'm constantly finding similarities between the pieces I'm coveting for my closet and the items I'm looking to incorporate in my home. I've pulled together an outfit and a home decor look that combines texture, bold prints, metallic hues, and yummy leather. See how I translate fashion to interiors with these two looks!

Even with a secretary blouse and heels, this Romantic Leather Skirt ($1,400) feels effortlessly cool. One of my favorite ways to achieve this look at home is by adding a piece of '70s-style furniture in buttery, caramel-colored leather. This Leather Butterfly Chair ($200) achieves the same earthy but slightly polished look at a great price point.

A metallic hybrid of sorts, this Sloan Lizard-Effect Metallic Leather Clutch ($220) works equally well with silver and gold accessories. I'm applying the same philosophy to this Armand Riviera Pendant ($375). A gold interior casts a warm glow against the hammered silver exterior - perfect for mixing up metallic decor!

I love incorporating animal prints into my wardrobe and decor, because they add a graphic punch but are classic prints. This Animal-Print Cotton and Silk-Blend Blouse ($1,100) feels especially polished with a tie-neck detail. I always gravitate toward a great animal-print layering piece for a room, like this Leather Zebra Cowhide Rug ($2,360).

Rebecca Minkoff debuted a Spring collection today that will surely be sought after by a bevy of downtown girls. As DJ Mia Moretti mixed the soundtrack, the crowd - which included guests Sophia Bush, Chris Pine, Jessica Szohr, Alexis Bledel, and Michelle Trachtenberg - seemed mesmerized by Minkoff's "Desert-Love" collection featuring a sun-drenched color palette. Romantic billowy blouses, louche print trousers, sheer maxi dresses, and lace tops showed Minkoff's signature romantic touch, while leather separates and cutout dresses added edge. Minkoff's accessories collection was also in full force as the models held on to colorful clutches and chain bags. Down below, we spied a range of cutout booties and sweet lace-up sandals. However, the icing on the cake came when the crowd went crazy for the Man Repeller's Leandra Medine as she walked down the runway wearing a pair of black leather shorts and silk blouse. Diane von Furstenberg never disappoints; every season we expect greatness, and every season, without fail, greatness is what we get. For Spring, DVF and creative director Yvan Mispelaere were inspired by Africa, showing us gorgeous monochromatic separates, funky, romantic prints, and the brand's signature tailored elegance in a collection titled "Beginnings." "It's about light and what light can do and how light changes everything," said von Furstenberg. "I did something I've never done before - I started with white." A refreshing cotton white wrap dress with a full skirt kicked off the energetic show, leading into a beautiful arrangement of color and prints. As the collection progressed, von Furstenberg and Mispelaere highlighted tailored button-up blouses, trousers, and Bermuda shorts in clean, solid hues. Then came the prints; vibrant and eye catching as oversized floral and ikat motifs bounced off asymmetric dresses and trousers. Always one to mix things up, von Furstenberg and Mispelaere injected a little bit of the mod '60s into the collection via beaded shift dresses and beehive updos. Last weekend I went to a lovely wedding on the beach (above is a photograph of me and my besties; I’m wearing a dress by Hoss Intropia). It was a beautiful ceremony, and all of the guests in attendance looked just as nice. In light of "wedding season" (and the all-too-familiar mystery of "What do I wear to ____?"), I thought I’d put together a post on wedding attire.
While it’s exciting to be invited to a wedding, decoding the difference between "formal," "semiformal," "cocktail," and "casual" attire as requested by the invitation can leave you wanting to reply, "I don’t." You may be wondering, "What does 'casual' mean anyway? Surely flip-flops and frocks cannot be appropriate . . . " (And you would be right!) Well, ladies, wonder no more . . . Below, I’ve decoded the puzzling meanings of wedding dress codes.

If the invitation says . . .

Black Tie. Black tie (or "formal" attire) is the most formal of all wedding dress codes. Most often, black tie weddings are in the evenings, so turn up the glamour and bring on the beads and sequins! I suggest wearing an evening gown (such as the Clementine Gown by Paper Crown, pictured above) or an elegant cocktail dress. Dramatic jewelry is welcome, and coiffed hair is a must.
