Flower Power Makeup Part III: Palettes

Welcome to the final installment of flower power makeup. This post includes two beautiful palettes embossed with floral designs. By the way, palettes make for great Mother's Day gifts if you are already thinking of ideas. Enjoy and please let me know what you think!

I just love the look of this brand new for Spring Chantecaille Les Roses Palette, $105. Although it's expensive, it actually is cheaper to purchase the palette than it is to buy all of the colors separately.

The shades chosen are all very wearable, and the full rose on the blush and bronzer adds a sweet and feminine touch. I happen to really like this brand a lot. I haven't tried this yet, but I can't wait to check it out.

Prescriptives Colorscope Set, $50, so reminds me of a flower! I can't be certain if it's a flower, star or sun, so I've taken creative freedom positioning it here. I'm a big Prescriptives fan and I really like the plum family of colors they have put together.

I have also seen this palette in more of a neutral tone, but I can't seem to find it online anymore - maybe it's sold out. It also comes with a double sided shadow and contour brush. I can't wait to hear what you think.

Trend Alert: The Great Gatsby

Here is my ode to The Great Gatsby. Fashion is experiencing a throwback to the times of art deco, pleats, beading, speak-easies, and the Belle Epoque. Legendary designer Paul Poiret has been referenced and you can see his dropped hemline and flapper hats in a major way in the Proenza Schouler Fall 2007 collection. After all the 70s and 80s we've been seeing on the runway these seem fresh and a step in a new fashion direction - just don't take away my booze!

A Beauty of Roses

Call me old-fashioned but the classic, distinct scent of the rose is one of my favorites. The rose flower is also one of my all time favorites to receive. As well, Guns n' Roses is one of my favorite bands. OK, you get the point. Luckily, this scent is no longer reserved for Glam-Ma (no offense) and there are fresh, modern rose scented beauty products available today. Known for its tonic and deodorant properties, it also has skin soothing, and aroma therapeutic, i.e relaxing, benefits. Rose extract also aids in exfoliating. Here are some of my favorites:

Jaqua Rose in Bloom Body Beauty Butter, $24. Super rich for moisturizing winter skin, this wonderful garden rose beauty butter contains Rose Hip Extract, Cocoa Butter and Mango Butter.

Avon Floral Prints Sheer Rose Shower Gel, on sale for $4.99. There is nothing like being showered with roses.

Stella McCartney Stella, $60.50 for 1.6 oz Eau de Parfum Spray. Stelllllaaaaaa! This fragrance is based on the contrast between the freshness and softness of the rose, and the dark sensuality of amber; Stella is a sophisticated scent focused on an intense sense of femininity.

Archipelago Botanicals 'Royals Collection' Short Candle: Rose, $42.
Could a candle be any more lovely?

Kiehl's Rosewater Facial Freshener-Toner, $14 for 18 fl. oz bottle. A gentle soothing freshener formulated with Rose Extract to be used after cleansing or any time as a mild astringent and facial stimulant for normal to oily skin types. I just adore the rose petals floating around in the bottle.

Celeb Style: Rose Byrne

Rose Byrne strolled stylishly through the streets of Paris during Fashion Week. She worked a buttoned-up look via a green silk blouse, white blazer, and black tapered trousers. Her black crocodile satchel and gold chain belt serve as luxe accessories. This outfit may be too conservative for a night out, but it would work perfectly for the office or a chic lunch.

2009 Primetime Emmy Awards: Rose Byrne

Rose Byrne opted to wear a beige crystal-embellished tulle Valentino gown to the Emmys. Leaving full focus on her decadent dress, the actress accessorized minimally with a small black clutch and diamond earrings. It's definitely different from all the frocks we've seen thus far, and I like it. After all, there always has to be one princess at the party. Are you feeling it?

FABTV: Guns n' Roses "Welcome to the Jungle"

Here I am in the midst of New York Fashion Week. My theme song? You know it! Most people need to listen to mellow music in times of chaos; me, I thrive on my favorite hard rock band of all time, Guns n' Roses. When all else fails, I just put on my boys and let the tough times roll. Here, you see Axl straight off the bus from Indiana (where he is actually from) about to embark on a life of sex, drugs, and rock n' roll. And it went down just like that. The original band mates are seen here - Axl, Slash, Duff, Izzy, and Stephen - in their metal hair, leather pant, and bad attitude splendor. Let the good times roll . . .

Kristen Stewart Style, Post-Twilight, Present-New Moon

Ever since Twilight, we've been watching Bella Swan, I mean, Kristen Stewart, like a hawk. Her street style hasn't changed much - jeans, tee, and leather jacket are her usual M.O. - but her red carpet looks have evolved into something magical. In the beginning of her post-Twilight stardom, the actress shied away from elaborate gowns and funky frocks, but times have changed and so has Kristen. As of late, the star has been dazzling us with head-to-toe designer looks from the likes of Jason Wu, Alexander McQueen, and Oscar de la Renta, to name a few. Hottie Robert Pattinson as arm candy doesn't hurt, either. Is it just me, or is the shy wallflower starting to bloom into an elegant rose? See what I'm talking about!

New York Fashion Week, Spring 2008: Lela Rose

A rose is but a rose, but Lela Rose is catering to your socialite roses who like their clothes luxurious, crisp and with a youthful flair.

A simply lovely Spring collection, with a bold rainbow of black, white and key colors like teal and mustard, strong shapes and sheens were eminent throughout. Rich embellishments and fabrics treatments like laser cut looking lace, were balanced out with loose outerwear and playful yet tailored dresses. Soft graphic prints occurred as well as artsy necklaces - both jumping on the art trend that is going to be big for Spring. While one could toss the cropped wide legged gauchos to the Park Ave. curb, Rose proves it's possible to be prim and proper and cool.
