My birthday party is this Saturday night and so far, I've received only one RSVP! I sent over 40 homemade, snail-mail invitations and find it hard to believe that almost no one has called to tell me if they are or are not coming.

Am I too old-fashioned? Is RSVP-ing a thing of the distant past?

It makes perfect sense to wear lace-up booties in the Winter; it's aberrant in the beginnings of Summer. It's no secret global warming is in full effect and it's throwing off designers and retailers alike. As for us shoppers, I say, the more we can wear our favorite things, the better.

How to Watch Movies in the Theater For Free

I know this sounds amazing, and there's a kicker - you can see these movies in theaters for free BEFORE they're released to the general public!

It sounds too good to be true, but it can be done really easily. For the past year or so, I have been attending movies in theaters before they've been released. I pay nothing to see them, and to top it off, there are often no previews, so 100 minutes actually means 100 minutes.

Some movie studios provide free screenings of movies. They do this to build interest in a movie, to do research, and to allow the press to review it. If people have a good experience, they'll tell their friends and write positive reviews.

These are the same movies you can see a few weeks later for $12 a pop. Over the past six months, I've seen The Green Hornet (awesome movie!), The Next Three Days, and Limitless, among others, all a few weeks before they were released to the general public, and all for the family friendly price of "on the house."

I'm usually wary about pre-approved credit offers and I take pains to opt out of the ones I receive in the mail. But every once in a while, for better or for worse, one slips through. I recently received one that caught my eye: 50,000 reward points for spending just $500 on American Express.

Since I pay off my credit card balances, hadn't applied for a credit card in a while, and am not applying for a loan anytime soon, I decided to open this one. After all, the annual fee is waived for the first year (and I can cancel at any time), and the amount of points offered is high - enough for round-trip airline tickets or $500 in gift cards.

Eva Longoria Does Dinner With Eduardo Ahead of a Special Night With the President

Eva Longoria and Eduardo Cruz had a date night yesterday at her LA restaurant Beso. She had the evening off from shooting the final season of Desperate Housewives, which kicked off on ABC a few weeks ago. Her last episodes as Gabrielle Solis will air through 2012, and so far, things on the show have been as dramatic as usual. Eva was mum about her and Eduardo's outing on Twitter, but he's been sharing his thoughts on many things on his own page. He just posted a quote from Albert Einstein that read, "Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the the universe." Eva, who recently topped a list of TV's highest paid actresses with Tina Fey, has been busy with other projects. She produced a documentary called The Harvest, out on DVD yesterday, about underage migrant workers. Eva's also getting political and is one of most famous attendees to have RSVP'd to the first-ever national Latino gala for Obama, being held on Oct. 24, at the home of Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith.

DIY: Wedding Invitations

Here's a post from Colleen Reilly, one-half of Thursdays and bride-to-be. Colleen is graciously sharing three DIYs from her upcoming nuptials with CasaSugar readers. Last week she shared her DIYs for creating corsages and boutonnieres. Today, she's back with her advice on creating your own wedding invitations.

Somehow time has completely flown and in just two months, my fiancé and I will be getting married on a (presumably) steamy August day on the back patio of a state park lodge in Indiana. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t feeling pretty excited about the party with our family and friends that will follow.

To cut costs and to add a more personal touch to things (and because I like creating extra projects for my friends and myself), we’re going mostly DIY for the wedding.

Saving Serious Cash by DIYing Invitations: These invitations were a one month-long labor of love. But even after screwing up two packets of vellum (one got rain-soaked when we left the window open during a thunderstorm, the next group had a glaring typo that we didn’t notice until 75 invites had been fully assembled - ugh), our invites still cost hundreds less than if we had had them designed and printed professionally. Hundreds.

Granted, you have to have the time and patience. But we’ve gotten so many compliments on our invites and people can’t believe that we made them ourselves, so I think it’s worth it.

What We Purchased: We purchased several packages of printable invites from Target. These were on clearance for about $20 and included everything we needed-card stock, envelopes, RSVP cards and RSVP envelopes. We discarded the overlay they included, because we didn’t like it and purchased a package (eventually three packages) of clear printable vellum, which runs about $10-15 for 50 sheets - cut in half, that’s enough for 100 invites.
