Style For Style: A Gummy Fashion Situation

I let a friend borrow a lovely ruffled jacket I have, much like this Max Mara Ruffle Front Jacket, $890. Big mistake! Somehow she got gum on the sleeve, which is a mystery because she wasn't chewing gum the entire night (yeah right!). Naturally, I freaked out, but she remained calm. Little did I know that she had a trick up her sleeve.

Yes, you are staring at a piece of ice. My smarty pants friend took one cube and rubbed it on the gum-infested area until the ice had practically melted and the gum had come off. It's hard to tell how long the process takes but if this happens to you, rub the ice on the gum and scratch it off until it disappears. It's labor intensive but worth it if you want to salvage your clothing! Please be mindful of sensitive fabrics like suede and silk.

The Look For Less: Madison Marcus Ruffle Leather Jacket

In case you haven't noticed, I have a soft spot for leather jackets. Upon perusing my collection, I noticed a lack of feminine details in my leather goods. This epiphany led me to find this beautiful Madison Marcus Universe Ruffle Leather Jacket ($572). The ruffle detailing is divine but the price tag is way out of control.

Thanks to faux leather, this ELLE Leather Biker Jacket ($29, originally $72) has the same feminine detailing and cropped cut without the expensive price. The patent sheen isn't as bright in real life but the fit is superb. I own the gray version and I love it!

Get ready to rev up your denim collection. Moto jeans are the latest incarnation, and they're both sassy and sporty. We've seen motorcycle jackets and vests, but cross-stitches and patches on a slick pair of jeans are hard to resist.

My favorite, affordable pick is by Recession Denim - these dark denim Moto jeans with ribbed knit patches are statement jeans if I ever saw them. And, they're under $100. Temper them with a girlie ruffled top or cuddly soft knits - ready, set, moto!

2010 Paris Fashion Week: Isabel Marant

Isabel Marant - a Fab obsession - opted for more detail, more color, and more leg for Spring. Per usual, I adore everything, minus the camouflage boots. Marant delivered an eclectic chic mix of frilly skirts and dresses, sumptuous tweed, cool prints, girlie ruffles, city shorts, hot hot pink, and sweet turquoise. Railroad denim is redone: teeny short shorts, patchwork miniskirts, and cutoff jeans. Khaki jackets and vests are far from preppy in silky fabrics and utilitarian styles.Pants are either laid-back loose or sexy tight, shown in silky black, Carmen Kass multicolored stripes, hot pink, and cool gray; this pictured pair of laced up black pants are a new classic, totally unique. The mix is emphasized by diverse details: feathered earrings, silver chain necklaces, dark metal bracelets, a mix of belts, and a knockout fringed and studded boot. Are you obsessed with Isabel, too? 2010 Spring New York Fashion Week: Marc Jacobs

If you suffer from pediophobia, you may despise Marc Jacob's Spring collection. A mix of harlequin, geisha, and cabaret cutie, ultimately, the theatric collection manifested like a melange of stern-faced dolls in high-fashion fixings. An abundance of ruffles, sometimes completely covering a frock, is over-the-top femme. Beading, layering, florals and plaids, and inside-out corsetry gave way to a complex collection. The one steady, and no doubt sell-worthy, aspect: outerwear. Marc has a sharp scissor when it comes to military coats and crisp jackets; these brought the fantasy back to reality. In addition, navy pinstripe got the ruffle treatment, giving way to nuanced tailoring. The drippy gowns aren't the most dreamy, but everything else is imagination gone gaga. Speaking of, Lady Gaga and Madonna were famous front rowers, and Perez Hilton was present. Always a surprise or two at MJ . . .

2010 Spring New York Fashion Week: Proenza Schouler

A self-proclaimed mermaid, I drowned in Proenza Schouler's aquatic chic Spring collection. It wasn't evident right away - leather and bondage shirt dresses and jackets opened. And then, like a flurry of fish, tiered and ruffled frocks in teals, turquoise, and acid green stole the scene. Seaweed sequins in purple and emerald, and even some feathers, trimmed asymmetrical hems. Then the prints - tie dye, stone wash, water ripples, mana ray - on frilly skirts and perfect shifts. Dramatic wedges were scuba fantastic, sunnies were bold and reflective, bags were eclectic. The babydoll was reinvented in a strappy, sassy bralette style. Washed up, sometimes green, beachy hair, completed the marine melody. Lastly, three Traina's were in attendance - longtime PS supporters. Soak, it, up.
