I let a friend borrow a lovely ruffled jacket I have, much like this Max Mara Ruffle Front Jacket, $890. Big mistake! Somehow she got gum on the sleeve, which is a mystery because she wasn't chewing gum the entire night (yeah right!). Naturally, I freaked out, but she remained calm. Little did I know that she had a trick up her sleeve.

It's hard to tell how long the process takes but if this happens to you, rub the ice on the gum and scratch it off until it disappears. Alexander McQueen Spring 2012

Otherworldly is the best way to describe Sarah Burton's Spring 2012 collection for Alexander McQueen. She referenced the Greek goddess Gaia, who in mythology gave birth to the gods of sea. The oceanic theme arose via undulating ruffles and pearl and coral-crusted embellishments that looked like barnacles. But first, the impeccable tailoring; first with a series of skirt suits, belted high and elegantly on the waist, done in powerful metallic gold and blush tones. Some of the jackets were cut to reveal delicate lace bralettes underneath. A string of babydoll dresses were floaty and full, designed to mimic the movements of a jellyfish, thanks to a plethora of ruffles. For the finale, a string of awe-inspiring gowns, one that spoke to the darkness of McQueen with black, spidery-cut leather. Models wore facemasks cut of lace, but some had beading made to look as if coral were spreading over their faces. It was transformative, and on a larger scale, a transformative moment for Sarah Burton, who has shown that she can lead the Alexander McQueen house forward in a lighter, but still breathtakingly complex direction.

Trends: aquatic theme, pearls, feathers, embellishment, wide belts, asymmetric hems.
Colors: gold, blush, coral, white, cream, black.
Key Piece: babydoll dresses with lace and ruffles were surprisingly light, while the gowns were just incredible. For "everyday" we love the tailored jackets that opened the show.
Accessories: platform gladiator sandals that climbed up models's legs.
Who Would Wear It: The gowns are for the most fashion-forward red carpet goers. But we can see some of the skirt suits working on Sarah Jessica Parker.

Nina Ricci Spring 2012

All the romance and delicacy of Nina Ricci was present for Spring 2012, with a healthy dose of overt flirtation added in. Slim dresses were dolled up with soft ruffles, drape, and pretty florals; floaty peplum tops, peeking from tailored cropped jackets, danced above miniskirts; and then there was lingerie. Designer Peter Copping had played with lingerie themes in his Resort collection; here it was taken a new level: models walked the runway in pretty bras, some underneath jackets, others simply with a swingy skirt. Slipdresses of silk and lace seemed cut apart and stitched back together. It was playful and seductive, but most importantly it was pretty.

Colors: pink, white, black, lavender, blue.

Moschino's Rossella Jardini took a trip to Spain for the brand's Spring collection, showing beaded matador-inspired jackets, embellished skirts, fringed tops, and toreador hats. Dramatic, high-impact pieces that were tempered with romantic ruffled wrap dresses and lace bias-cut gowns made to flatter the figure. Described by Jardini as "very feminine and sensual but not sexy," the collection hit all the notes of the brand's signature bold-with-a-twist-of-fun style. The embellished jackets, which featured bells that jingled, were especially fun. Meanwhile, floral print peasant skirts, embroidered shorts, and printed smock tops provided chic options for daywear. Phillip Lim's Spring 2012 collection was built around the ideas of geometry, activewear, and kites. Yes, those wispy things we send up to the sky inspired Lim's soft, flowing clothes, many of which ruffled and moved with the slightest breeze. There was lots of silk, from side-slit trousers to delicate dresses with geometric ruffles. There were sporty pieces as well, including tops that looked like they had been cut from a thin rubber (more chic than it sounds), micro twill utility vests, and a bonded leather round collar jacket. The trousers will be a must have next season, done in soft colors like limoncello and lavender for ultimate breezy style. So, too, will be the metallic silver sandals that look so insanely good with Lim's pastel-hued offerings.

Trends: Sporty, structural shapes, pastels, vests.
Colors: Soft pastels like limoncello, lilac, and shell pink; tempered with black, ivory, and pecan.
Key Piece: The side-slit trousers, a black racerback maxi vest paired with slouchy pecan-hued trousers, the shell pink bonded leather jacket, a deceptively simple, but perfect, black halter minidress that floated around the body.

Erin Fetherston's Spring 2012 brought the designer's flair for femininity in a bright, citrus-splashed return to the '60s. The presentation at Milk Studios on Saturday popped with bright lights and bold color - models poised perfectly in sky-high platforms, with bold smoky eyes, and perfect pink pouts to echo the nod to the swinging '60s sweetness. Fetherston played in a bold palette, fashioning up standout mod minis in white, black, and tangerine colorblocking and orange ruffled tiers, then showing a splash of girlie prints. First, pink butterflies on slim white pants, then softer butterflies in purple and black on a flowy maxi dress. To complement the super girlie, Fetherston gave separates in soft, sheer white button-downs and printed and solid shorts and pants for a presentation that's as sweet as it is smart.

Trends: Sheath dresses, '60s mod, colorblocking, sequins, and polka-dots.

Colors: Lemon, tangerine, black, white, purple and pink butterfly prints.
