I let a friend borrow a lovely ruffled jacket I have, much like this Max Mara Ruffle Front Jacket, $890. Big mistake! Somehow she got gum on the sleeve, which is a mystery because she wasn't chewing gum the entire night (yeah right!). Naturally, I freaked out, but she remained calm. Little did I know that she had a trick up her sleeve.

To see how my friend removed the gum from my jacket,

Yes, you are staring at a piece of ice. My smarty pants friend took one cube and rubbed it on the gum-infested area until the ice had practically melted and the gum had come off. It's hard to tell how long the process takes but if this happens to you, rub the ice on the gum and scratch it off until it disappears. It's labor intensive but worth it if you want to salvage your clothing! Please be mindful of sensitive fabrics like suede and silk.

Last night's Valentino store opening drew a gathering of LA's best-dressed celebs to Rodeo Drive. The flagship fete was the opportune time for Hollywood's style crowd to don their prettiest Valentino frocks - there was hardly a pair of pants in sight, save for maybe one very lovely jumpsuit. We spotted the label's lace and leather confections, signature flashes of femininity in the form of ruffles and floral adornments, and a room of covet-worthy accessories to complete every look. Minka Kelly stepped out in a gold-tinged ladylike dress and Nicky Hilton showed off the loveliest version of the leather dress. Even the night's most casual looks were injected with Valentino's brand of pretty, like a dose of lace on Ashley Madekwe's jacket. Moschino Fall 2012

It's always a rollicking good time to look at a Moschino show, and the Fall 2012 collection brings us a quirky mix of styles - military, ski, '60s - all filtered through the Moschino prism of color and indulgent detail. Short, flirty dresses were outfitted with feathers and abundant ruffles, capes and jackets were outfitted with military epaulettes, capes featured quilted fronts, and skirts were unabashedly mini - forget all the ladylike midi lengths we've been seeing on the runways elsewhere. Bright poppy colors on structured minis and coats harkened to the '60s. The Moschino lady is one who still loves dressing up the way she did in high school, stealing her chic mother's clothes and wearing them all at once in a jubilant mix. It's never too serious, which is why it continues to be so much fun.

Colors: Purple, royal blue, pink, red, yellow.

Proenza Schouler Fall 2012

A month-long sojourn to Bhutan and Nepal seemed to seep into every detail of Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough's incarnation of Fall's It-girl style. Most evident from their travels? The theme of protection, as seen in overpowering woven leather jackets, strong patchwork, and voluminous structured shapes, took hold in both the realm of outerwear and into the more slouched Far Eastern-influenced short robe dresses and belted skirts presented. A pale blue Asian screen-printed brocade melded into an architecturally perfect ruffled wrap skirt or a draped reworked leather top worn with low-slung oversized wide-leg pants showcased the boys' foray into radically new shapes against refreshing colorways. We couldn't help but admire the seamless interpretation and execution of Asian-inspired traditional dress into what is sure to be a collection of must-have Westernized wardrobe pieces. This season, it was all about the effortlessly cool warrior woman, and as the models marched out one by one as if part of a super-stylish samurai army, that point couldn't have been clearer.

Trends: Asian-inspired garb, tough protective outerwear, reworked leather, asymmetrical fastenings, and super-slouchy silhouettes.
Colors: Black, rusted red, orange, gold, pale blue, cream, and burgundy.
