Fab Read: How Sassy Changed My Life

Do you gals remember Sassy? Before Teen Vogue there was Sassy, a late-eighties teen mag about feminism, celebrities and girl culture. What set Sassy apart from other magazines at the time was its honest voice and too-cool attitude - although some say this blase attitude contributed to its demise in 1996.

Almost twenty years later, New York writers Kara Jesella and Marisa Meltzer have written a "love letter" to Sassy in their book How Sassy Changed My Life: A Love Letter to the Greatest Teen Magazine of All Time, $13.

It is a behind-the-scenes look at the magazine's office culture, its coverage of feminism, celebrities and girls' problems. It also highlights struggles with advertisers, publishers, religious conservatives and other detractors.

If you missed the Sassy boat or have (foggy) fond memories, this book allows us to see where our rebel sisters and cousins were getting their advice from in the 80s heyday!

Fab Finding Follow Up: Sassy Sailor

Last week I mentioned I caught a rerun of the Friends episode where Rachel tries to teach Joey how to sail. Joey couldn't handle Rachel's militant teaching methods but just as importantly her little sailing outfit was all cute and Tommy Hilfigered out.

I thought it would be fun to put together a sassy and functional sailing look. Sassy Glasses Necklace: Love It or Hate It?

On one hand I think it can be super fun, but it can also look a tad immature. They so remind me of something Cher's teacher Miss Geist would wear in Clueless. So, yay or nay?

The Look For Less: DKNY Embellished Trim Wool Jacket

There's something intriguing about a black jacket that has a hint of shine, like this DKNY Embellished Trim Wool Jacket ($504). It's totally classy and sassy at the same time - a modern Coco Chanel would wear it well. Since most modern Coco Chanels are budget conscious, I hunted down a less expensive version that is twice as nice.

This Forever 21 Jewel Trim Tweed Jacket ($35) has the class and the sass, but not the high price tag. The square-shaped jewels are a bit bigger than the DKNY version, but they provide the perfect sparkle. The cropped sleeves are also fresh. Since the silhouette is on the classier side, I would make it cooler with a pair of lightwash jeans.

Power Couple: Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy

Clearly, Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy, who have been together since 2005, are all about having fun - who else would wear his girlfriend's swimsuit? You can see their sheer bliss in their smiles and complementary clothing. For red carpet appearances, the two play the roles of Hollywood hotties with slick suits for Jim and sexy frocks for Jenny. And when they're not on tropical beach vacay, Jim lives in his jeans and boots during off-time. Jenny prefers to keep it sassy in fierce footwear and stylish separates. I love their non-serious, unpretentious ways. And, their autism advocacy is pretty kick-ass. One day, I hope to have a love just as great. For now, let's take a look at their cuteness.
