Trend Alert: Satin Party Platforms

It's almost party time people. Catch up on your sleep and get your party wardrobe in order now to avoid holiday burnout. While you could go the princess route, like Kristen Stewart did at the New Moon LA premiere, on the other side of the red carpet, was Dakota Fanning in a flirtatious lace Valentino frock and satin party platforms. I have a black lace-up Banana Republic pair I'm looking forward to dusting off, though fanciful colors like blood red, fuchsia, and navy have their own appeal.

Shoe Designer Spotlight: Brian Atwood

Gals looking to give their Louboutins a rest should turn to shoe guru, Brian Atwood. Since 2001, he has developed a cult-like following - one look at his sexy footwear and it's easy to see why. Brian was inspired by his mother's impeccable closet as a little boy. His passion led him to FIT in New York and later to the catwalks of Europe where he pursued modeling. But all the while, Brian had a notebook full of 4-inch stiletto sketches that would later come to life.

Quite impressively, Brian was hired by the late and great Gianni Versace in 1996 (he was the first American to be hired by the Italian designer). He finally took the shoe plunge in 2001 and has since been wooing women with his glamorous designs. But like Louboutin and other exceptional shoe designers, Brian's creations don't come cheap. They retail for $500 up to $700.

Trend Alert: Goodie Nude Shoes

Nude shoes look great with anything, really. They elongate the leg and are the sexiest neutral around. Or, you can opt to go head-to-toe nude like Penelope Cruz, goodie nude shoes. Her banded Dolce & Gabbana is near nude perfection; her satin Very Prive Louboutins are insanely Fab. I have some classic nude patent Brian Atwood pumps that I always grab in a crunch. It's a worthy investment, but I recommend shopping for your nudes in the flesh to ensure a perfect skin match.

Come Fab Finding With Me: Rad Russian Night

My friends and I are planning a rad Russian night. What does that mean exactly? In honor of H&M opening in Moscow, we're visiting a local Russian restaurant that has amazing food and live entertainment. Russians love to dress up, so I need a fancy outfit to help me fit in. The more black (and gold), the better.

2009 Fall Paris Fashion Week: Balenciaga

Nicolas Ghesquière may have delivered some silky, shouldery Dynasty-esque dresses in his Fall collection, but the '80s references stop there. Plus, I kinda love the dresses . . . Always with a smidge of sci-fi, this is possibly the most wearable Balenciaga collection yet. But it still manages to be distinct. Some looks are bedroom inspired, with draped satin skirts and pants. Others are lush - black velvet suits and jackets with sculptured curves and bows. Prints range from Monet-like artsy to marbleized. Bonus extras include lace bra bandeaus, chunky gold cuffs, and colored tie shoes.

2009 Fall New York Fashion Week: Zac Posen

Posen found solace in a retro, eclectic Fall collection. The '40s were beckoned through square shoulders, skirt suits, tweed, ruffles, and country florals. The palette was totally autumnal: beige, gold, pumpkin, storm gray, but kicked up a notch with scarlet red, silky lilac, and noir. Posen's muse of the season was sultry actress Paz de la Huerta, who served as his date while he took his finale bow. No Posen runway is complete without drama, that he supplied through the 5 Browns, a bro and sis piano group, and metallic, asymmetrical gowns. There was lots of flair going on - jeweled belts, fancy buttons, satin shoes, studded headbands, and cluster earrings. All the more to compliment his screen siren.
