I've said it once and I'll say it again: I would consider a short wedding dress. I'm an unconventional gal and a more cocktail-inspired wedding dress is an idea I've been flirting with since, well, I started bringing you wedding eye candy. We can already imagine celebrities waiting in line for a piece of Elie Saab's collection. For Spring, Saab emoted pure femininity, highlighting gorgeous gowns dipped in a rainbow of pretty pastel hues. Dresses ranged from short to long, showing intricate floral and beading details, most of which were cinched in with a dainty little bow belt. Meanwhile, streamlined silhouettes kept the look fresh and modern. Sheerness also came into play, adding subtle, sexy mystique to an otherwise overtly feminine collection. The closer? Kate Moss celebrated her 38th year at dinner in London last night with her husband, Jamie Hince. They went for a meal at China Tang, inside The Dorchester hotel, where they were joined by one of Kate's BFFs, Stella McCartney. We celebrated the supermodel's milestone with a look back at Kate Moss's best jet-setting moments. This year brought a much quieter party for Kate, who's well-known for marking birthdays with huge blowouts. In recent years, she's hosted a Beautiful and the Damned-themed bash, caroused with friends for 18 hours in a row - short of her 36-hour goal - and even hosted a medieval party in her home's garden. Of course, in 2011 Kate's biggest bash was her wedding to Jamie Hince. Marriage Rates at Record Low: Bad News For Economy

If you flip through the channels, it looks like all of America is altar-bound.

But in fact, the Pew Research Center found that American marriage rates are at an all-time low: Only 51% of Americans over age 18 are married. Marriage rates have declined by 5% between 2009 and 2010 and 21 percentage points since 1960, when 72% of adults were married.

Are We Aging Out of Marriage?

It’s no surprise that things are very different today from only a few short years ago - see cell phones, laptops, tablets and the Facebook timeline. The big things are changing, too.

Half of men getting married for the first time are 29 years or older and half of women marrying for the first time are 27 or older, which means that many Americans are tying the knot well past age 30. Of course, the big 3-0 is getting younger and younger, so the news isn’t revelatory, but for reference, remember that Marie Antoinette married at age 14. In more recent history, Elizabeth Taylor’s first marriage took place when she was only 18.

Marriage and Money

So, what does all this have to do with money? A lot, it turns out.

First, married people tend to accumulate money. As Pew researcher and senior writer D’Vera Cohn explains in The Huffington Post, "Some of that might have to do with who chooses to get married, that is, people who are educated have less of a decline in their marriage rates than people who are less educated. We also know that the kind of partnership marriage encourages is one in which you plan for the future, share your assets, build wealth together. There isn’t that evidence yet for people who live together."

Second, beyond the married couple’s individual finances, their marriage affects the wider economy. Married people wait to make big purchases and investments until they’ve "settled down." Those purchases include houses, children, property . . . the big things that keep our economy spinning in a way that rent checks and vodka sodas can’t manage.

We're not saying that marriage will make you rich, or that opting out of the contract keeps you from being so. But research shows that marriage is good for our finances and good for the economy at large, so it follows that a decline in marriage rates isn’t exactly helping us climb out of the recession crater.

There goes the bride.

Kate Moss covered her head from the rain this morning to check in on the progress of construction at her new London home with her husband Jamie Hince. Both Kate and Jamie are home from a recent stint in Paris, where she was by his side during his shows with the Kills. Business of her own brought Kate to France earlier this Fall when she talked up her collection for Rimmel in a few select interviews. Kate Moss talked to writer Derek Blasberg about some funny and personal topics. It was revealed that Kate wanted to sneak into the McQueen show in a wig shortly after her cocaine arrest in 2005, and she shared more anecdotes about dressing, style, and sharing a name with Duchess Kate. Miss Moss said:

On the art of mixing high and low: "I get lots of things. I grew up wearing Marks & Spencer, and that’s where I got all my underwear when I was young. Now I just mix it in with the Stella McCartney, darling."
On how style differs among European women: "There’s definitely a different style from London to Europe: The French girls dress different from the English girls and the Spanish girls and the Italian girls . . . and French girls have their look with their long hair and sophistication. And then we English girls look a little . . . lopsided."
On the posters of her that went up before the royal wedding that said "There's Only One Kate": "Yeah, I saw them. I watched the wedding, too, of course! We had a big party, and all the kids came around. I thought Kate [Middleton] looked amazing . . . [though] I think she’s called Catherine with a C now."
