The Bag To Have: Marc Jacobs Flap Shoulder Bag

I was minding my own business, just casually browsing Barneys' website (research right?), when I suddenly ran into this Marc Jacobs Flap Shoulder Bag, on sale for $359 (originally $539). Now, you know I'm partial to anything MJ so it's no big surprise that I stopped off at his section. What excited me beyond belief was the red font indicating a sale!

Fall is months away but true fashionistas are already preparing their closets for the crunchy leaves and gloomier weather. This flap bag is incredibly right for the upcoming season; it's utilitarian in size and has just the right amount of adornments (the gold chain and signature pushlock).

What really attracted me to this particular MJ is that it's simple and hardcore at the same time. The chain link gives it some pizazz but unlike the Stam and other Fall bags, it retains some down-to-earth-ness. A round of applause to Marc for yet another handbag well done - clap, clap clap!

The Bag to Have: Linea Pelle Lola Shoulder Bag

Everyone from Hayden Panettiere to Katherine Heigl has been seen carrying incredibly well-made Linea Pelle handbags. But that's not the only reason this Lola Shoulder Bag, $470, is the bag to have. The vibrant limonetta color (left) is what first grabbed my attention. It's nearly Summer, which means time to hide those dark brown and black bags, and to carry something a little more fun and light-hearted. Lola is here to help, and it's rather affordable compared to many of the other high-priced bags on the market!

It's also made of South American leather, which means it's ultra durable and long lasting. What makes Lola a true knockout, besides its scrumptious hue, is its braided handles and brass hardware. A feminine bag with masculine features...I love it! And don't worry about having to match it with all your outfits; a little clashing never hurt anyone. I would carry Lola with a full skirt with a fun print, a simple white tee and flats.

Victoria Bartlett has cornered the knit market with her on-trend, sexy spin on the classic sweater, and the VPL by Victoria Bartlett Fall '12 collection gave us many more iterations to love. Known for her body-conscious silhouettes and athletic aesthetic, the designer offered up avant-garde, futuristic chic with ornate spiderweb-inspired cable-knit pieces, drapey cowl-neck tops and dresses, and bright pops of color and metallic sheen. Models also wore tight, solid leggings layered with strong-shoulder sweaters, shin guards, and of course VPL's signature colorblock underpinnings - looking almost ready for a battle. Trends: Cutouts, spiderweb-esque knitting, paper bag details, asymmetrical sleeves.
Colors: Cream, charcoal gray, mauve, yellow, tan, aubergine.

If the snow outside wasn't enough for NYFW attendees, Felipe Oliveira Baptista provided a few snowflakes of his own for Lacoste's Fall runway show this morning at Lincoln Center. As fake snow blew into the audience, Oliveira Baptista set the tone for his sporty chic ski-inspired line. Mixing in the old - Oliveira Baptista referenced uniforms the brand designed for France's 1966 national ski team - with the new, the designer conceived a smart mix of body-conscious pieces fitting for any après-ski occasion. One can easily head to the slopes, or to the cabin, in one of Oliveira Baptista's rugby-meets-ski minidresses and jumpsuits or sport-striped leggings paired with chic oversized parkas and coats. Leather quilted vests and jackets injected a luxurious touch to the overt sportif theme. With a play on fashionable function, Oliveira Baptista experimented with zippers, some of which opened up all the way up to the shoulders to replicate the look of a cardigan tossed over your shoulder, while others served as pockets for hoods disguised as a stylish oversized collar.
