Style for Style: Taming A Fly Away Belt

I've been embracing belts lately because they add character to an outfit. My belt style of choice has been the skinny; they're more flattering than oversized belts. So with this newfound love, I went shopping recently and purchased some really chic skinny belts, sort of like this Banana Republic Skinny Metallic Belt, $48. But because I wear my skinny belt at my waist, the end sticks out and flops around - not pretty and definitely not the look I'm going for!

read more I know what you're thinking: Hollywood Fashion Tape, $7, is meant to tame unruly tops, not belts! But it is handy for so much more. Since the tape is double-sided, simply place a small piece on the inside of the flapping belt strap and stick it along the belt. Voila! The strap stays in place all day long. I wouldn't advise this for belts that are really thick or have beading or fancy adornment. So there you have it: fashion mission accomplished in a cinch!

Diesel Black Gold Fall 2012

It was all about baggy cuts and luxe fabrics at Diesel Black Gold's Fall showing today at Pier 57. Designer Sophia Kokosalaki stayed true to the brand's rock 'n' roll aesthetic, showing a range of printed skinnies, oversized cuffed leather pants, and a lot of leopard. Inspired by "vintage B-movies," Kokosalaki took it to the streets with an assortment of paint-splattered pants, low-slung leather wrap skirts, and a heavy helping of leopard prints. Designs for the downtown girl, but there were also a few notable pony hair tops and jackets which added a sleek touch to the collection. The complete breakdown below.

Look of the Day: Valentine's Special

Given our undying love for Giambattista Valli's pretty pink-and-red peplum-infused dress, it's no suprise that we instantly gravitated toward Fab reader Ashleigh1206's sweet colorblocked look. She tucked a pink silk blouse into a pair of red, well-tailored wide leg pants, adding a skinny leopard print belt for a chic, cinched finish. As far as accessories go, her armful of gold bangles, chunky gold chain necklace, and nude pumps kept the bright ensemble feminine and on-point.

Grammy Awards: Katy Perry

Katy Perry donned an icy blue gown by Elie Saab to match her icy blue hair for the Grammy Awards. The dress is quite elegant, with elbow-length sleeves, a demure V-neck back, and a long train. The dress hugs Katy's figure, and her waist is accentuated by a blue skinny belt. She looks ultra ladylike, compared to some of her looks in the past. What do you think of her look?

Rachel Comey Fall 2012

Rachel Comey showed us her sophisticated side for Fall '12, streamlining her usual quirk factor with a modern, refreshing twist. "Normally for Fall we dive into print and pattern and color," said Comey. "This time, I pulled all of that out and cleared the air." With that in mind, the designer showcased laser-cut cotton dresses and wool felt tops, digital-print knee-length skirts, pretty prints, and shiny boxy leather tops. Color pops included an oversized bright orange coat and dress and even a heart-print dress doused in hot pink. Comey's shoes, a cult favorite amongst many, included quirky-cool black-and-white cap-toe loafers, flatforms, and chunky ankle boots. To finish, Comey closed out the show with an array of cocktail-appropriate black dresses, ranging from a simple, slinky halter-neck LBD to a shimmering full-skirted version. Derek Lam's new venture, 10 Crosby, has fulfilled its cool-girl status for Fall '12. The third collection from the line, 10 Crosby showed plenty of bold prints, sharp tailoring, and just the right amount of femininity to please every downtown girl. Inspired by the classic holiday flick Home Alone, Lam and design director Liz Giardina envisioned what the 10 Crosby girl would wear on a snowy Winter day. With that thought in mind, the two created silky printed palazzo pants, cozy peplum cardigans, fox-fur vests, and pajama-inspired tops tempered with tailored poplin shirt dresses and sharp trousers. Our New York Fashion Week kickoff began this morning with Steven Alan. For Fall, the designer showed another batch of covetable casual-cum-cool offerings pairing his signature modern classic style with a bold touch of Mexican and folk influence. Full red skirts were paired with riding jackets and fedora hats and structured striped wool vests with slightly flared pants, and there was even a cute vintage-inspired tweed jumpsuit styled with a button-up blouse and cardigan. For a soft touch, the designer also supplied sweet peplum-embellished floral and striped dresses, plaid shirt dresses, and, for a little shine, black and gold brocade dresses and trousers.
