When I first laid eyes on this Diane von Furstenberg Henry Tiered Sweater Skirt ($345), it was love at first site. I am a sucker for grey, especially when it comes to cozy knits, and anything DVF. A couple days later, not so much. Such is the whirlwind that is lust. I'm over it, what are you?

Designer Spotlight: Mischen

Mischen, which means "to mix" in German, quite fittingly describes designer Carla Knapp's ultra eclectic and feminine clothes. Before venturing off and starting her own line, Carla attended Parsons in NYC and worked as creative director for famous brands like Jill Stuart and Paper Denim & Cloth.

But her real education happened in local thrift stores when she was much younger. She would endlessly scour second-hand clothing and analyze their fabrics, prints and pattern work. Today, Carla's creations for Mischen are edgy, sophisticated and feminine all at the same time. I adore this Sleeveless Keyhole Dress, (call for pricing info), because it's a combination of demure and sexy.

Look of the Day: Red Hot

High-waisted is in and Igottrouble is wearing it so well in her red hot outfit! I love the color of the skirt, as well as the length. I don't normally care for wife-beaters but it totally works here. While her little flats are adorable, another option is to dress up this look with a hot pair of wood-heeled wedges.

These New York & Co. Floral Pencil Skirts ($12, originally $40) totally remind me of Thakoon. In fact, the cranberry colored one reminds me of Michelle Obama's red and purple Thakoon frock. I can't decide which version I like best, they're all so pretty.

Here's why you need one (or all three): they're a modern alternative to the basic black pencil skirt, they're super inexpensive, and they're the perfect rich hues for Fall. To counterbalance the fanciness, I would wear one with a gray tee and a faux fur collar scarf. And if the length is too stuffy for you, chop it or wear it as a paperbag skirt!

2009 American Music Awards: Best Dressed

A wide range of personalities and styles stepped onto the American Music Awards red carpet tonight. And while there was some color, the best looks were neutral, black, and all-a-glitter. From Rihanna's laser cut Marchesa to Kristen Bell's cool Christian Cota skirt and top, silhouettes were experimental. Glitzy accessories topped off most of the contender's looks.
