Trend Alert: Sock Sandals

I wonder if Argentinean teenagers are the real trendsetters of the world. What am I mumbling about? I happen to have a pair of sock sandals that I purchased in Buenos Aires two years ago. They are black, I thought they were very Helmut Lang, and they were $12. All the funky Buenos Aires youngsters were wearing them and I simply had to have a pair.

I wear them with thigh-revealing looks as I think something avant-garde looks best with something sexy. Whitney from The Hills knows how to wear these unique sandals and she does so with ease in her little floral dress. So tell me, are sock sandals all the rage?

SJP Shares Sweet Snacks With Loretta and Preps For New Year's Eve

Sarah Jessica Parker was out and about in NYC yesterday joined by one of her toddler twins, Loretta Broderick. The pair dressed in casual Fall attire, with SJP boldly pairing socks with her metallic sandals, and snacked on dehydrated mango slices. Matthew Broderick recently wrapped up press obligations for his latest release, Tower Heist, and following suit SJP will soon hit the talk show circuit for her upcoming flick, New Year's Eve. She shares the big screen with fellow A-listers Halle Berry, Ashton Kutcher, Jessica Biel, and many more in Garry Marshall's romantic holiday comedy. The cast will likely have lots of post-Thanksgiving catching up to do when the press tour kicks off prior to the movie's Dec. 9 release date. SJP was back on the red carpet circuit last night at the MoMA tribute to Pedro Almodovar, where she mingled with the likes of Blake Lively, Miranda Kerr, Elizabeth Olsen, and more.

There are germs lurking on the check-in counter at the airport, on the subway seat during your morning commute, and on the ice bucket in your hotel room. If you've watched the movie Contagion, you'll most likely already be on high germ alert. Here are are five bacteria-thriving spots travelers should take extra precaution to protect themselves against.

Airports: As soon as you arrive at the airport, you'll come in contact with the check-in counter and ticket kiosk - both of which are covered in bacteria and possibly even mold. Just think of the thousands (possibly millions) of people who have touched these areas before you. Try wiping the kiosk ticket monitor with an antibacterial hand wipe to make sure it's clean before using, or wash your hands afterward as soon as possible.

And to avoid athlete's foot or other fungal infections when walking through the security checkpoint, wear socks (or bring some if you're wearing sandals) - just don't go barefoot! Staphylococcus aureus has been discovered in these checkpoints.

An all-star model cast including Karen Elson, Jess Stam, Arizona Muse, Karlie Kloss, and Lindsey Wixson hit the runway for Anna Sui's '40s-inspired Spring 2012 collection. With ladylike silhouettes, sweet, full-bodied prints, an electric palette - and turbans to top every look - Sui's Spring looks bright, polished, and marked with feminine charm in every detail. Nods to the womanly, the glamorous - and the very Parisian - were made throughout, in everything from the bold red lips to the lace veils, and the music transporting the crowd - including front-rower Sofia Coppola - to a bouncy dance scene in retro Paris. Indeed, the models themselves seemed to bounce along the runway in a peppy celebration of womanly clothes and colorful accents. Lindsey Wixson smiled flirtatiously, Karlie Kloss perfected her sultry half-smile, and the parade of beauties all done up in a mix of prints, socks, and sequins played perfectly to Sui's witty recreation of vintage style.

Oscar de la Renta Spring 2012

A sense of youthful fun pervaded Oscar de la Renta's Spring 2012 runway show. It was partly due to Justin Timberlake in the front row, the runway models' crimped hair, dewy skin, and sock-with-sandal styling, but it was mostly the clothes. Not driven so much by a theme as by a girl, a younger girl than de la Renta's traditional customer, who will be a little more playful with her choice of clothes. A feather-trimmed sequined shift, acid-green harem pants with a feathered crop top, and gathered taffeta ball-skirt gowns layered with lace cropped shirts were not for the faint of fashion heart; more staid were a series of easy chiffon shift dresses and wide-leg trousers and pussy-bow blouses. It's as if the almost-80-year-old designer were having a good long wink at the crowd, reminding us that you're never too old to have fun. It's a treat that his version of fun is so darn beautiful, too.

Trends: bold color, volume, asymmetry, crochet, feathers.
Colors: cobalt blue, white, pale pink, champagne, yellow floral print.
Key Piece:The taffeta ball gowns layered with cropped tops in lace and crochet.

Let's be honest, chasing a small one all day long leaves little room for fashion inspiration and makes you lean toward living in PJs on your days off. I get it, I understand, but hell, I don't condone it. Having a kid doesn't mean your life is over, gaining a bit of post baby weight (even if 4 years later) doesn't mean we abandon ourselves. Maybe it is easier for me to say since I deal with clothing and personal style day in and day out with my clients but I have mom friends who do not work in the industry and still manage to look their best. So when I go off to pick up a few groceries and see a few moms in sweatpants and scrunchies, I get a bit bothered. Here are a few tips and tricks to keep you looking like the chica you were pre-baby, just tweeked a bit here and there because if I see another sandal and sock wearing (and I don't mean Miu Miu with socks, I mean, gulp...Birkenstock), hair roots that look like they haven't been touched since 1995 (exaggeration is good for the soul, sue me), and overalls that make Old McDonald look like a style king, I will flip!
