NYFW: Celeb Spotting - Part One

New York Fashion Week has been in full swing with more shows than you can possibly imagine crammed into each day - check out FabUK and BellaUK's coverage of the week so far. As we saw with Jennifer Lopez and Victoria Beckham at Marc Jacobs, celebrity fashion lovers have been lining the catwalks each day, including London party-scene regulars like Kelly Osbourne, Luke Worrell, Agyness Deyn, Henry Holland, Roisin Murphy, Estelle, Daisy Lowe, Mark Ronson and Peaches Geldof.

Of course there have also been tons of familiar American faces attending too, for instance Halle Berry, Claire Danes, Nicole Richie, Mary-Kate Olsen, Kanye West, Leigh Lezark, Leighton Meester and Taylor Momsen have all been seen at the shows and parties - so here's part one of my gallery depicting all the celeb movers and shakers taking in the Spring 2009 fashions in New York.

Blake Trades NYC and Penn for Paris and Karl

While Claudia Schiffer and Diane Kruger are fashion show regulars, the Chanel Haute Couture presentation today in Paris was a first for Blake Lively. While she's abroad Gatecrasher reports stateside on the real-life drama brewing between Blake and her co-stars. Apparently she was spotted kissing Penn Badgley while out shopping in NYC on Saturday yet she and Leighton are avoiding each other like the plague (spoiler alert: the newspaper also outs the identity of GG). While in Paris Blake only wanted to talk about how grateful she is for the new life GG has given her. She said,

“I had a normal, all-American high school experience - nothing like the kids on Gossip Girl. The amount of money the characters have is incredible. The kids on the show drink cocktails at the Palace Hotel; I was eating hamburgers at fundraisers at Fuddruckers. [But it’s] opened so many doors for me, like coming to Paris to see a Chanel show. It doesn’t even seem like a job. We’re getting paid to live in New York and wear amazing clothes.”

Posh, Kanye & Courtney Take In The Sights Of LV

Paris Fashion Week was swinging last night with the Louis Vuitton Ready to Wear Spring-Summer 2008 Show, attended by celebrity fashionistas like Posh, Courtney Love and Kanye. Check out runway pictures from the show here on Fab. Naturally, Posh checked in on her blog about her time in Paris and what she's up to for the next few weeks - including shooting a cover for American Elle in Paris (just in time for that Spice Girls reunion) and ads for her newest DVB denim line in England. I assume we'll be hearing all about Paris Fashion Week from the most prolific celebrity blogger ever, too - the Louis Vuitton Don himself of course. Court is never one to mince words, either. It's like a blogger convention over there.

Ashley & Dita Celebrate Fetish & Sky-High Loubs

Some of the chic ladies in Paris for Fashion Week took a break from the runway shows to enjoy the party thrown for the opening of the 'Fetish' Photo Exhibition Opening Party by David Lynch. Sorry, mouthful. Naturally Dita was there for the event alongside Ashley Olsen, Sofia Coppola and Diane von Furstenberg. Also in the house and contributing art of his own to the party was Christian Louboutin - you must check out these shoes he made for the exhibit. Well, if anyone could actually wear those it would totally be Dita. Me on the other hand, well, I'd take just about any of these.

Fabcon: Sofia Coppola

Sofia Coppola's style can best be described as unfussy, cool and classic. We are talking about one of Marc Jacob's muses here (lucky!). While one may point out she wears a lot of black, 'tis true, but so do other icons such as Kate Moss and Diana Vreeland. Black is one of the truest colors of fashion, and as every woman knows, it's slimming too. But I just love it when Sofia does play with color; it's usually in the form of bolds such as red or pink, or understated with off-white.

The daughter of legendary filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, Sofia is talented in other areas than fashion. She is an accomplished film director, actress, producer and Academy Award-winning screenwriter. I would also like to point out that she is the first American woman and third woman in history to be nominated for an Academy Award for Directing.

Sofia is just so cool. She is considered a pop culture icon within the indie music and film communities, in Paris and Tokyo especially. It figures she would have fashion sense - as a child she stayed in the wardrobe department of her father's films, and did you know that in high school, she interned with Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel? As well, in 1998 she co-founded the clothing line Milkfed in Japan with friend Stephanie Hayman and Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon. I so remember Milkfed! It was very Beastie girlie - it was sold alongside the Beastie Boys clothing line X-Large back in the day.

While The Virgin Suicides continues to be my favorite film by Sofia, it's just so beautifully melancholy, Marie Antoinette also provided some serious eye, and ear, candy. What's next for Sofia? I can't wait to see.

Lovely Ladies Head To Versailles For Dior

Last night John Galliano debuted the 60th Anniversary couture collection for Dior and what better place to host the lavish event than opulent and ostentatious Versailles palace outside Paris. While some of our favorite Hollywood fashionistas didn't make the trek Kate, Jessica, Charlize & Ellen were lucky enough to score invites. (Side note: Dita is getting more pale by the day, right?) Naturally Anna Wintour was front and center to cast her always judge-y eye on the likes of Naomi & Gisele gracing the runway. I already gushed about Kate's look, but whose front row fashions were you loving?

Sofia on Her New Adventure

Sofia Coppola got all bundled up to take her 3-month-old daughter Romy out for a walk in frosty New York this week. Too bad we don't get to see the little one hiding in the stroller! The Marie Antoinette director recently opened up about her newest project -- being a mom. Here's more:

Motherhood is "great," she said. "Right now I'm focusing on that. The baby is only three months old. It's a lot of heating bottles, so that's what I do all day."

So now that she's been a mom for three months, does she have her new role down pat? "No, I don't think anyone has it down pat!" she said. "It's definitely a new adventure."
