New York Fashion Week, Spring 2008: Rebecca Taylor

See this grey melange coat? Already on my Spring wish list! Rebecca Taylor aims high to please the girlie girl and her Spring collection was spot on.

Taylor lightly touched on some of the trends - art, high waists, sequins, sportif, embellishments - while retaining what she is all about: beautiful, wearable clothes. From slip dresses and skirts sprinkled with pedal-like pretties, to patent leather Marni-esque belts and sexy nighttime colors, I can see unalike actresses Emmy Rossum and Carmen Electra - both in the front row - donning these goods. Did I mention the interesting attention to backs? Another theme I've been seeing, Taylor's backs were bold with color blocked outside zippers and fabric paneling. Taylor mixed things up and that coat = love!

Trendspotting: Sporty-Cool Colorblock

If the Fall runway collections from Rag & Bone, 3.1 Phillip Lim, and Jil Sander are any indication, now is the time to invest in all things sporty - think body-conscious racerback tanks; slouchy, relaxed outerwear; and cool, graphic colorblock prints. Tory Burch Spring 2012

Tory Burch took us to the French seaside circa 1920 for a Spring 2012 collection that seemed to channel a young Coco Chanel. Per usual, her knack for color and print shone through in lovely mixes of raspberry and ivory, deep red and pale pink, and fig and navy. For day, there were tweed jackets with fringe detail, drop-waist pleated dresses, a silk sweatshirt with mesh detail, and ribbed linen shorts. For evening there were gorgeous embellished dresses paired with sparkly pendant earrings, and the finale dresses were an exercise in softness and color: three silk chiffon gowns in seafoam, blush, and coral. The collection comes on the heels of Burch's latest store opening, a five floor townhouse on Madison Ave in New York that feels like someone's luxurious home, albeit one filled with totally attainable clothes, bags, and shoes all stamped with the increasingly powerful Tory Burch brand. It makes us wonder: is Tory Burch the Marc Jacobs for the uptown set?

Colors: seafoam, navy/red, gold, ivory, raspberry, pink, blush, champagne, coral.

Key Look: A cotton crochet dress with raffia applique, little knit shorts paired with a crochet top, the full-length chiffon gowns.

Lacoste Spring 2012

Felipe Oliveira Baptista redefined the term "sport chic" today for his debut as the creative director of French sportif brand Lacoste at New York Fashion Week. From beginning to end, Baptista pulled us into his zone, offering up a bevy of polished sportswear via silk anoraks, sexy silk dresses, bold colorblocked dresses, and louche silk blouses. Crisp jackets and tunic-length tops were perfectly tailored, and refreshing layering techniques, like pairing a collared pinafore-inspired dress over a cropped top, drew us in even more. Geo print pieces - we especially loved the turquoise and cobalt blue long-sleeved printed dress - hit all the right notes on this season's popular sport trend. 2011 Fall Milan Fashion Week: Fendi

Fendi brought color and a sportswear-inspired zippiness to a collection that was loosely rooted in ladylike themes. There were boxy coats with colorful trims, knit sweatpants, and minimalist wool shells, all of it looking like it could be thrown on for a casual lunch. Fendi luxury came via multitoned and textured fur, suggesting a younger clientele might be donning these. Color played a major role, with yellow, orange, and burgundy emboldening many of the earth-toned ensembles and giving the collection a hint of '60s pop. For evening, sheer textures enlivened wool dresses and pants. The focus on fabrics - wool, fur, sheer silk, leather - and color made for a fun collection that didn't present any huge ideas, but will make wonderful additions to the closet next Fall.

Trends: Boxy silhouettes, sportif, fur, knitwear, ladylike, bold color combos.
