Spring Peek: Army Brats

Along with living my life aquatic, this Spring I'll be a walking, talking army brat. I've always had an affinity for army green - I swear it complements every color. But the Spring runways were attacked by khaki, utilitarianism, belts, leather, bandage, pins, and rugged ruffles. Armed forces? Armed fashion.

Spring Peek: The Life Aquatic

This Spring, one-piece bathing suits are making a comeback. But a bigger, better(?), overarching trend is the life aquatic. Steve Zissou and crew would appreciate the multitude of scuba-inspired, palm tree-emblazoned, seascape-styled getups that swam up and down the runways. Spring always pays homage to beach life, but never so blatantly. Proenza Schouler's aquatic cool collection was the tour de force; I guarantee we'll be seeing the ocean-toned, feathered, textured pieces everywhere. Early adopters? Kate Bosworth in the ray print dress and Kristen Stewart in mismatched cuteness. You ready to live the life aquatic?

Metallics have been around the block and back. I'm glad to see them taking on new forms and becoming more fluid and romantic. Marni (pictured) presents the perfect juxtaposition of luster and crispness - a thoroughly modern combination. I am a self-proclaimed luster addict. Can you imagine the ways these clothes move? They are probably blinding in the sun. But that's the beauty of the luster - you just can't keep your eyes off it, no matter how painful it is.

You all seemed a bit apprehensive about the shoes of Spring and I gotta tell ya: the bags also come from Funkytown. Clutches continue to be the bag of choice, in both oversized and embellished versions. I have a blue crush on this patchwork Pucci (pictured). The rest run the gamut from leathery and lux to dainty and funky. Whatever your grab bag desires, carry them out this Spring.

I already touched on the unexpected but very cool boots of Spring, and a storm of gladiators is coming to cover many a feet come warmer days. As for the rest? Spring Peek: Headgear

Keeping up with my hat kick, headgear was an interesting trend for Spring 2007. At Derek Lam (shown) graphic patterned scarves were wrapped around the head creating colorful turbans. Other designers experimented with thick, layered headbands and babushka-like concoctions. Marc Jacobs collaborated with Stephen Jones to create metallic caps for his namesake collection and rosette corsages for Louis Vuitton.
