Just Released - Zara's Fall Ad Campaign Featuring Stella Tennant

Hot off the heels of announcing its US ecommerce site yesterday, Zara just released its Fall campaign featuring Stella Tennant. Stella, who was also featured in its Spring ad, is photographed wearing dark palettes from Zara's collection: loose-cut trousers, marl-knit sweaters, and a good variety of colored and printed pants. 2011 Fall Paris Fashion Week: Balenciaga

Each season, Balenciaga designer Nicolas Ghesquiere is able to take a familiar silhouette, deconstruct it, and present something to us that is undeniably new and futuristic. For example: this floral dress layered with a sheer-paneled top and vest, seen left. The combination has been seen a hundred times, but Ghesquiere added a new twist to the concept via a slick lizard-and-flower-print skirt, a thick-braided leather vest (could be faux), and a sheer top. A little tough, a little structured, and a whole lot of cool. A sports theme ran through the show in the form of boxy tops covered in what looked like black soccer netting, and a neoprene-like fabric that gave pants an invincible look. Miranda Kerr returned, walking the runway in a calf-skimming skirt trimmed with a leather ruffle, and ageless beauty Stella Tennant showed that longer proportions will continue into Fall, wearing trim blue pants under a long white and black tunic dress. It was the sporty feminine modern woman, who by the way sported killer strappy stilettos.

Trends: Futuristic, minimalism, longer proportions, florals, layering, sporty, colorblock.
Colors: Black, white, caramel, plum, cobalt blue, garnet, hot pink.
Key Looks: The floral pieces layered with sharp black vests and jackets.

With Inès de la Fressange, Elle Macpherson, Stella Tennant, and other prominent not-so-teenaged models walking the runways at Fashion Week for the last couple seasons, some people are now speculating that the more mature catwalker is here to stay. Since most of the people actually buying designer clothes are well out of their teens, having models with a little more life experience than your average 16-year-old clotheshorse makes sense. However, it's not like we're seeing tons of older women, and those we've seen have been very famous faces. Do you think the fashion and beauty industries will make a sustained effort to better represent women of all ages, or do you think bringing back supermodels from decades past is just a fad?

Fab Ad: Balenciaga Goes Intense, Fall '10

While the Spring '10 Balenciaga ads were trippy, Fall's are super intense. They all feature the same format - single shot on the right, group shot to the left - but each has its appeal. I'm most excited to see '90s Brit model Stella Tennant (far right), who joins the gang, including Freja Beha Erichsen, Karen Elson, Caroline Brasch-Nielsen, Stella Meghan Collison, Mirte Maas, Valerija Kelava, and Kirsi Pyrhonen. The dusk-like background and the models' solemn expressions make for one seriously stoic ad campaign. Do you approve?

Rive Gauche

The left bank of the Seine River in Paris; one of the city's most romantic districts. More than simply a geographical region, the Left Bank has become a name for a particular fashion or look. In 1966 Yves Saint Laurent launched a ready-to-wear line by the name Rive Gauche. The collection was an attempt to democratize fashion, introducing elements of garments of the lower classes into high fashion, such as the leather jacket.

Models That Look Like . . . Animals?

I've always had a real talent for likening people to animals so it was only a matter of time until "It" models became my victims. My first prey: Jessica Stam, whose cat-like eyes make her look like she's a part of the feline family (in this case, a lioness). That connection is pretty obvious. Not so obvious, and funny, are my other victims, Shalom Harlow, Coco Rocha, Stella Tennant, Jacquetta Wheeler, and Tanya D.
