Our New York Fashion Week kickoff began this morning with Steven Alan. For Fall, the designer showed another batch of covetable casual-cum-cool offerings pairing his signature modern classic style with a bold touch of Mexican and folk influence. Full red skirts were paired with riding jackets and fedora hats and structured striped wool vests with slightly flared pants, and there was even a cute vintage-inspired tweed jumpsuit styled with a button-up blouse and cardigan. For a soft touch, the designer also supplied sweet peplum-embellished floral and striped dresses, plaid shirt dresses, and, for a little shine, black and gold brocade dresses and trousers. Steven Alan stayed true to his classic cool aesthetic for Spring 2012, showing a collection filled with chic basics: cropped and wide-leg trousers, colorblocked tunic tops, and breezy plaid dresses. The presentation was a refreshing nod to classics with a twist thanks to modern details like a back seam slit and the most notable look, a perfectly tailored checked suit, equally fitting for a day at work - or relaxation in the Hamptons. For his Fall lookbook, the designer showed off his cool styling skills, pairing garnet-hued velvet skirts with cozy sweaters, polka-dot maxi dresses with booties, and wide-leg trousers with louche blouses. Steven Alan knows what the everyday girl wants for Fall 2011: classic cool pieces, comfy layers, and fun prints. His presentation gave us a cozy (and much-needed) rush thanks to the assortment of preppy with a twist looks. Crewneck sweaters layered with button-up shirts, velvet skirts, floral trousers, oversized blazer coats, and even chambray overalls made the cut, alluding to a fresh throwback vibe. His color wheel was all classic Fall choices, while small dot prints, and our favorite, a bold multicolored horizontal stripe pattern, added dimension to the collection.

Top of mind is my surf trip to Costa Rica later this month, so you will find a dope pair of workout pants, some beachy items, and a hot little bikini. Alas, city life until then, so some sophisticated items are musts, too. Summer is so soon . . . can't wait!
