I was doing my usual eBay scrounging when a ray of sunshine zapped me. This Vintage Slouchy Stripe Cardigan, size medium, was a breath of fresh air amid a sea of dark-colored clothing. J'adore the chunky stripes and how loose it sits.

Our New York Fashion Week kickoff began this morning with Steven Alan. For Fall, the designer showed another batch of covetable casual-cum-cool offerings pairing his signature modern classic style with a bold touch of Mexican and folk influence. Full red skirts were paired with riding jackets and fedora hats and structured striped wool vests with slightly flared pants, and there was even a cute vintage-inspired tweed jumpsuit styled with a button-up blouse and cardigan. For a soft touch, the designer also supplied sweet peplum-embellished floral and striped dresses, plaid shirt dresses, and, for a little shine, black and gold brocade dresses and trousers. Jennifer Garner caught a flight at the Toronto airport in a red cardigan and landed at LAX in a striped sweater yesterday. She was in Canada for the Toronto International Film Festival, where Jennifer premiered Butter with her costars Ashley Greene, Olivia Wilde, and Alicia Silverstone. She also made time to party during her stay up north, and she stopped by The Weinstein Company's soiree and the InStyle and HFPA bash. The pregnant actress got the fun started even before TIFF when she hit the red carpet for the Pink Party in LA over the weekend. Now that she's heading home, though, she'll be able to get back into her routine with her adorable daughters, Violet and Seraphina, while her husband, Ben Affleck, continues working on Argo.

Ever dream of being a mystical witch princess? If so, Mara Hoffman's Fall collection is for you. That said, it's one beautiful mystical witch princess. Floor-length dresses had hoods, but lest you think that's a warmth factor, they were done in silk chiffon or jersey, and one was backless. Models' fingers were painted black and were bedecked in All For the Mountain jewelry. Knits were a standout: thick, printed, and either oversize or super cropped.
