10 Fashion Observations, Straight From Paris

My recent trip to Paris left me inundated with chic fashion observations. Whether I was window shopping on Rue Saint-Honoré or strolling down Rue St. Germain, I would always spot a cool trend, another form of inspiration for my closet. Left and right, effortlessly gorgeous women on bikes and on foot would stop me dead in my tracks. It's a mystery how they don't brush their hair and barely wear makeup, but look so damn good. Bella, any ideas? Fashion-wise, we all know that Parisians love, love, love black. Even visitors, like L'Uomo Vogue editor Giovanna Battaglia, get sucked into the black hole when they go. Olivia Palermo, Sweet Sailorette: Love It or Hate It?

Olivia Palermo always looks put together, head to toe. At a recent event in NYC, the socialite exuded a sweet sailorette look in a red and white striped dress. But it's the surrounding pieces that are debatable. An oversized ribbon hangs from her collar, taking her look from modern to theatrical. A black clutch, rhinestone bracelet, and black booties complete her red-carpet look. Are you digging it, or is it too literal?

Gone are the days when striped button-down tops reminded us of "office" clothes. Nowadays, I'm seeing a new light, a new crop of fresh stripes. They're easy, they're breezy, and they're too cool to pass up. Don't worry about wrinkles or slight imperfections, just go with the fresh flow. Even better, you can wear these stripes year-round. I'm wearing my stripes right now with shorts and sandals; come Fall, I'll be rockin' them layered with a turtleneck and tights.

Doesn't New Yorker Kelly Klein make stripes look so effortless? So chic? So city stripes? I know you've got some in the depths of your closet. Striped dresses aren't easy to pull off, but Rachel Weisz and Drew Barrymore make it look easy. Rachel wore this Narciso Rodriguez satin striped sheath dress to the Gotham Independent Film Awards back in December with a black clutch and matching stilettos. Drew, on the other hand, snazzed up her frock with red platform slingbacks and a statement bracelet for her appearance on Live With Regis and Kelly. Notice how both stars complemented their ensemble with matte red lips. They both look great, but which one stands out to you?

Independent Spirit Awards: Cameron Diaz
