This Week's Fab Favorite: Alexis Bledel

Here are some fun facts about Alexis we didn't know: her first language is Spanish, she is 5'7" (doesn't she look petite, though?), and her favorite band is Radiohead. Considering the fact that she looked smashing in a Mischen dress, Alaia heels, and a cool gold clutch at the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 premiere, atop those other fun facts, Alexis is bonafide Fab. I always thought she was adorable on Gilmore Girls - those blue eyes are amazing - but she just went up a few notches.

I like that even with a highly detailed dress she opted for eclectic accessories. The one shoulder and structure of the dress make it a stand out. You can't beat Alaia shoes - favored by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen - and her criss-cross heels are slightly naughty, totally funky. The gold clutch is futuristic looking and her diamond studs are perfection. Pulling back her hair was a good call and bright pink lips are always scrumptious. Cute, cute and more c-ute.

New York Fashion Week, Spring 2008: Oscar de la Renta

This collection was a bit of traditional Oscar de la Renta - with poofy, dramatic dresses and full-of-sheen separates - fused with a more modern, androgynous Oscar. There's no doubt that the designer stuck with the overarching Spring theme of femininity, but he stayed away from flowy and went the structure route.

There were dramatic necklines, long red carpet gowns, bows, ruffles, floral patterns, pleats, metallics, pantsuits, shift dresses, skirt suits with cropped jackets, tuxedo-style frocks, bubble silhouettes and lantern sleeves. Whew! There's was a lot of everything.

It's obvious that Oscar tried to appeal to many types of women: the minimalist, the flamboyant and the eccentric. Many tribal-inspired dresses in black, brown and white were shown - for those who like to explore the wild side of fashion.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Fall 2012

The Marc by Marc Jacobs collection was all about the school girl gone grunge. Loose trapeze-like dresses and combat boots melded with pleated skirts and pretty bouclé coats resulting in mash up of feminine cool tinged with military touches. The main focus were full-skirted dresses made in floral prints, metallic finishes, plaid, velvet, and sheer mesh. Outerwear featured a standout fur collared anorak and plenty of ladylike coats. We were especially smitten with the polished textural coats, nipped in at the waist with leather belts. For accessories, Jacobs highlighted a range of structured satchels, military caps, and punkish lace-up boots. Read more highlights below, then see the complete collection in the slideshow.

Colors: Red, blue, black, gray, brown, gold.
Key Piece: The fur-collared anorak coat and full-skirted dresses were key standouts.

Rodarte Fall 2012

Leave it to Kate and Laura Mulleavy to not only draw a star-studded front row - hello, George Lucas, Natalie Portman, and Dakota Fanning - but to deliver a stellar, 1940s-inspired Fall '12 collection too. One part cave-drawing-infused, one part retro femme, and one part Australian outback-reminiscent, Rodarte showcased a beautiful mix of totally girlie pieces with both red-carpet appeal and wearable ladylike style. The sister duo paid close attention to feminine details á la Peter Pan collars, artfully structured ruffles, and metal star appliqué hair combs. Yet, never ones to shy away from throwing some quirk into the picture, they added literal hand prints to long, flowy evening gowns and added cowboy buckles to double-strap leather belts. The biggest covet-worthy takeaway from today's show? After several seasons of collaborating with key shoe designers like Nicholas Kirkwood and Christian Louboutin, the Mulleavy sisters debuted their first-ever in-house shoe collection. We're calling it: Rodarte's two-tone pumps with heels made of plexiglass, sexy dominatrix-inspired spat heels, and lace-up boots will be Fall '12 It girl items. All in all, it's a gorgeous autumnal lineup, just begging to be worn.

Trends: Cropped cable-knit sweaters, hand-print chiffon dresses, and 1940s-inspired silhouettes.
Colors: Warm, earthy tones like rust and terracotta juxtaposed against cool neutrals.
Key Piece: Super-cute chunky cable-knit sweaters paired with terracotta-hued trousers; diaphanous hand-print chiffon dresses.
Accessories: Ladylike round-toe pumps with heels made of plexiglass or filled with sand, sexy lace-up gladiator-inspired spat heels. Look out for the subtleties in each heel design.
Who Would Wear It: Front-row attendees Natalie Portman and Dakota Fanning are high up on the list, but we think a plethora of A-list talent will be clamoring to wear this collection. Don't be surprised to see Taylor Swift, Alexa Chung, Kirsten Dunst, and Elle Fanning flaunting Rodarte's wares, too.

Vera Wang Fall 2012

Vera Wang explored the relationship between hard and soft, structure and fluidity in her Fall 2012 collection. Like many of the collections this season, Wang's clothes had a distinct architectural feel via artful prints and super-structured outerwear. On the flip side, dresses were sheer and made of flowy chiffon, a softness that she countered with sparkly tops resembling armor (very pretty armor that we might want to wear out at night). Big coats were a win - many of them had oversized hoods and big fur collars that made them look like positively yummy options for Winter. With Vera's innate talent for constructing insanely beautiful dresses, we paid special attention to her eveningwear options, particularly one pale blue dress of layered chiffon and organza that, with a slip underneath, might just appeal to the celebs in the front row, including Viola Davis, Maria Sharapova, and Leighton Meester.

Trends: Architectural prints, sculptural silhouettes, sheerness.
Colors: Gray, black, camel, a gorgeous dutch blue and bright orange for contrast.
Key Piece: The coats with big hoods and oversized collars; a dutch blue organza dress.
Accessories: Big wedge booties and boots looked futuristic but were also a bit heavy.
Who Would Wear It: With Leighton Meester, Maria Sharapova, and Viola Davis in the front row, you can assume a diverse group of women might be attracted to Wang's artful sensibility here, but overall it's geared to women who don't want the classics.

J.Crew Fall 2012

J.Crew's packed Fall 2012 presentation showed a bevy of vibrant structured coats, eye-catching knitwear, and a refreshing mix of printed trousers. Almost every look has a sporty twist to it - we especially loved the casual pullovers made in silk floral prints, brushed fleece tops, and what has now become the brand's signature, daytime-appropriate sequins. Other standout pieces included a cozy two-toned tweed coat, leather trimmed jackets, and pajama-inspired pants. For accessories, VP of women's design Tom Mora provided major eye candy in the way of pastel candy-colored Manolo Blahnik pumps, Patricia Underwood hats, sleek snake-print bags, and textured clutches. Donna Karan Fall 2012

Somewhere, Marlene Dietrich is smiling. Donna Karan's Fall 2012 collection gave menswear a seductive turn, somehow making the double-breasted suit look just as sexy as the fitted dresses. Whereas past collections felt as loose and languid as a yoga pose, this latest collection was all about sharp tailoring and even sharper edges. Blazers had pointed shoulders, tops had extra wide, stiff cuffs, and skirts and dresses were folded and gathered like the face of a Frank Gehry building. There was lots of structure, and it seemed that Karan is making a strong argument for the '90s power suit. Models were adorned with miniature fedoras - thank you, Stephen Jones - giving the show a slightly playful and sexy undertone, as if they were Vegas dancers playing businesswomen. That said, Donna Karan also paid tribute to Whitney Houston, and the show closed with the late singer's rendition of "I'm Every Woman." No one knows that better than Karan. Side note: the show opened with a preview of her Casual Luxe line, which could be summed up as tartan-loving biker chick. Those looks follow the collection photos.

Chris Benz Fall 2012

Chris Benz described his retro collection “like a little kid watching your mom getting ready for a holiday party.” For Fall, the designer took a trip to the '50s and '60s with a festive array of sequins, lamé, and floral prints complete with throwback bouffants. Vibrant-hued trousers and cropped jackets were fresh and fun, while voluminous tulle skirts and metallic dresses provided a quirky twist to party dressing. More details below.

The designer offered up tapered trousers, fitted blazers, and his signature slouchy yet structured knits, all playing into a pretty, polished glamour that's perfect for the office. The collection was a refreshing mix of youthfulness (bright pops of colors, sleek pointy-toe loafers, tiny slivers of skin showing) and an underlying note of sophistication (turtlenecks, contoured coats, high-waisted pants), bringing a sweet sartorial dichotomy to the art of Fall layering.
