The future is upon us. Fabric innovations have brought fresh and interesting textures to the runways. Upon the streamlined shapes of Fall, these complex and high-tech fabrics, like heat-fused wool-and-silk blends, glazed mohair knits, full on plumage, and glossy treatments, outshined some of the silhouettes (and the models!). Look of the Day: Snake Charmer

Sizukalvtokidoki is all about textures. Notice how the cutie paired her jeans and jacket combo with a sweet lace top. It gives her outfit extra pop and I love how she continued the hotness with a punchy pair of reptilian pumps - what a snake charmer.

Trend Alert: Mixed Material Bangles

We can all agree Bosworth's ray print Proenza Schouler dress is epic. But have you ever realized Kate rarely wears jewelry? When she does, I notice. Her mixed metal bangles add extended cool to her black and ice sheath. She opted for a silver medley, but mixed metals work just as well. The key is to stack 'em and play around with textures and widths. In this case, more is more.

A Drugstore Version of Dirt

I've already waxed poetic about the magical, sweet-smelling hair styling paste that is Dirt by Jonathan Product. As Jonathan (from the reality show Blowout) explains on the label: “There’s something amazing about the way hair looks and behaves the day after - washing, that is." Seeing as how I'm obsessed with Dirt, I couldn't help but notice a suspiciously similar product while browsing the aisles the other day at Walgreens. Called FX Special Effects Texture Dirt Texturizing Paste, this styling paste proclaims: "Texture Dirt has been created to easily give you the amazing way your hair looks and behaves the day after washing."

Sound familiar? Since the FX brand has obviously been paying attention to Dirt's copy-writing, I bought a jar to see if it had replicated the styling effect, too. Plus, the Texture Dirt, available here costs just $5.99, versus $26 for the Jonathan product. However, after trying the FX brand, I think I'm going to stay loyal to Jonathan. The drugstore stuff wasn't terrible for a budget buy, but it had a more glue-like texture that made it hard to disperse though my hair. Although it gave my hair similar piece-y results, it didn't leave my locks looking or feeling nearly as smooth and silky as the Dirt by Jonathan does. I guess you get what you pay for.

Smart move layering the short hemline with textured tights. A metallic scarf and olive-green satchel complete her chic, office-friendly ensemble. Now if only her and Blair would make amends . . .

Wow. It's not every week my faves elicit that response. The holiday party circuit seems to be revving up and it shows in star's styles. Celebrities are letting their guard down and experimenting with silhouettes, textures, frills, and fun - that's what I'm talking about. Camilla Belle exhibited all these with her futurama Alexander McQueen frock; it nearly took my breath away. Pale Casadei heels and Cartier jewels topped her off. Each year, I look out for a new shiny bag I can make my partner in crime for the holidays. This Kate Spade Sequined Long Shoulder Bag ($375) totally fits the bill. I dig the long strap and how the texture is imperfect. Bummer it's so expensive.

Which Marchesa Was Most Fab at the Music Unites Fall Masquerade Gala?

Last week at the Music Unites Fall Masquerade Gala, Kerry Washington and Georgina Chapman wore pretty, poufy frocks from Georgina's coveted Marchesa line. Both dresses were white, but notice how the two styles varied in texture. Kerry's tulle embellishment and streamlined shape gave a more architectural appeal, while Georgina's feathered creation emoted flirty, flapper energy. Both beauties accessorized with sleek black clutches and matching pumps. This one's a toughie: do you prefer the designer or the celebrity?
