The Costume Institute Gala, kicking off May 4, has everyone giddy with anticipation. Like prom, one of the most important decisions is choosing your dress and date. This year, the "Model as Muse" theme has inspired many designers to choose models as their dates, while others are sticking to their usual beau and celeb buddies.

Wow - call me crazy, but the red carpet fashions at The Met's Costume Institute Gala are turning out to be almost as fun as the Oscars. I love the color of Renee's dress here. It looks gorgeous with her pale skin and blue eyes and although I think she could have used some bling, I am pretty much loving this look.

We saved one of the best for last - the belle of the ball so to speak. Now, this event is one of the most important of the year for the fashion cognoscenti - as you can see from all of our polls! Leave it to Anna to wear one of the most dramatic pieces of the evening.

I have to say I'm a bit disappointed in Kate's choice for the gala. I think she may be wearing a creation from her Topshop collection, which would be cool but this dress just falls flat. Plus, she looks a bit tired - maybe too much Topshop action for this model star?

Ooh! Camilla looks like a sultry super hero no? While one is supposed to bring on the drama for this event, I think this beauty delivered just the right amount of it in this glittering Jean Paul Gaultier.

I like Eva's dress, but next to some of the other more theatrical gowns at the gala, it looks rather simple and tame. I think this would have worked for a movie premiere, but for a gala, it's a little too 80s cocktail party. Her hair and earrings are the high notes.

Uh oh Ellen...your dress is falling off! This could have been a major red carpet disaster, but it looks like she may have recovered. I am loving her hair and makeup, but the dress is a little boring compared to some of the others we have seen.

Color gradation on a dress looks good when it's subtle, but Claire's Prada gown is anything but that. The bright orange center looks like it's been spray painted on. I would have much preferred the dress in all gunmetal grey.
