The Artist Has a Big Night at the BAFTAs With Brad, George, Penelope, and More

London's Royal Opera House was buzzing with stars as the BAFTAs kicked off last night. Brad Pitt popped up on the UK red carpet after attending the Berlin Film Festival premiere of In the Land of Blood and Honey with Angelina Jolie on Saturday. He was up for best actor, as was his pal George Clooney, who mingled with Colin Firth and his wife, Livia Giuggioli, on their way into the show. Presenter Penelope Cruz got glamorous in red while nominees Jessica Chastain, Viola Davis, and Meryl Streep followed suit in gorgeous gowns. Michael Fassbender was back in front of the cameras following a win at yesterday's Irish Film and Television Awards in Dublin. Other guys to suit up for the event included Jon Hamm, Jonah Hill, Gary Oldman, and Jean Dujardin. Chris Hemsworth, who is up for the rising star award, also went with black-tie and posed alongside his pregnant wife, Elsa Pataky. What did you think of all the BAFTA red-carpet looks?

Brad, who wore a coat by Dolce & Gabbana over his tuxedo, didn't end up taking home BAFTA gold, since The Artist's Jean Dujardin was declared best actor. Meryl Streep added to her trophy collection with a best actress accolade for The Iron Lady. Octavia Spencer from The Help won best supporting actress, and the corresponding male honor went to Christopher Plummer for Beginners. The Artist also won best picture and best director. Whether they won or lost, many celebs were in a happy mood following the show. Meryl, Octavia, Chris, Elsa, and more went to the official afterparty, and the Weinstein Company hosted another of their famous bashes.

If not, well, you could always wander the streets of these US cities that were found to be the most romantic in the country. Foursquare studied 1.5 billion check-ins and determined which cities were the most romantic, based on check-ins to places deemed "romantic" for couples, like French restaurants, wine bars, flower shops, and lingerie boutiques. Channing Tatum planted a sweet kiss on Jenna Dewan's nose while they waited for a flight at LAX yesterday. The couple were headed to NYC, where Jenna has already gotten in on the Fashion Week fun with a stop by Rachel Roy's presentation. It was a big weekend for Channing since his The Vow was number one at the box office after an impressive opening against Safe House and Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. Jenna showed support for her man on Twitter, saying "And congrats to my love Channing Tatum on a RECORD BREAKING box office weekend! Amazing!" If you haven't seen the movie yet, make sure to check out reviews for The Vow! Channing will be back on the big screen next month, when his remake of 21 Jump Street with Jonah Hill hits theaters.

Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson stopped by the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills yesterday. The afternoon wasn't all fun, though, since Jessica was one of the many celebrities that reacted to Whitney Houston's death. She wrote on Twitter, "I found my voice singing Whitney Houston's music. Today I lost my idol." Jessica and Eric have been hanging in LA lately, but they took a trip to Indianapolis for the Super Bowl last weekend. They're prepping for the birth of their first child together, and Jessica also has her new reality series debuting soon in March. Fashion Star begins on the 13th and will feature Jessica's fellow judge Nicole Richie.

Yesterday was a doubleheader for the duo - Brad and Jonah took the podium at the Oscars luncheon and followed it up with a special Moneyball screening and Q&A session at the LACMA. The Oscar-nominated costars have been making the rounds to support their underdog drama, and if it doesn't walk away with anything at the Academy Awards in a few weeks it's certainly not for lack of trying on their part.
