Sneak Peek! Banana Republic Fall '08 Collection

I know Spring and Summer are on your mind, but switch your mindset for a second because Banana Republic's Fall '08 collection is way desirable. Despite the gloomy weather that accompanies autumn, it's making me look forward to bundling up and layering.

You'll notice this collection is mostly monochrome, with sprinkles of red to surprise the eyes. On the outerwear front, there are lots of greys, extra-long cardigans, cropped pea coats, and slick leather trenches. The trousers are mostly skinny, checkered, and menswear-ish. Fall's frocks come with lots of personality: Prada-inspired lace dress (left), red taffeta sheaths, and sleek LBDs. Tie-front styles and berets are also prevalent for Fall.

BCBG Chiffon Tie Front Blouse: Love It or Hate It?

A top with too little fabric is a bad idea for a number of reasons. A top with a too much fabric, like this BCBG Chiffon Tie Front Blouse, $106, isn't quite right either. I'm beginning to feel a bit like Goldilocks here, but you really do have to have it juuust right.

I mean, I'm all for layers of chiffon, but when they're on a top like this, the nice feminine shape that should be accentuated is hidden underneath all the fabric. What about you: are you lovin' this top, or leavin' it?

Look of the Day: Miami Vice

Shibooms showed off her playful side today by wearing loose white pants paired with a striking blue blazer. It kind of reminds me of Don Johnson in Miami Vice, but in a good way of course. The tie-front detail adds a feminine touch and I adore her studded brown sandals.

Bluefly has many sales, but have you ever tackled the Once in a Blue Moon sale? It's a semi-annual clearance which offers designer goods at up to 75 percent off. Fantastic. There're 147 pages of goods, so peruse when you have lots of spare time. My favorite featured designers include ADAM, Balenciaga, Chanel, Corey Lynn Calter, and Mara Hoffman. Wouldn't it be nice to cozy up with this Rebecca Taylor Purple Stripe Knit Tie-Front Cardigan ($189, originally $350) this Fall? I would swap out the self belt for a fabulous tan leather one.

We can always count on Corey Lynn Calter to give us the perfect blend of stylish and wearable. Her Fall Look Book is proof. Every piece is practical yet nothing short of special. The lineup goes a little something like this: black capes, flowy print skirt, tie-front blouse, tweed dress, slouchy zip-up cardigan, asymmetrical top, and accordion pleats. The Look For Less: Cynthia Dugan Jewelry Silver & Leather Scarf Necklace

A scarf necklace: What a cool concept. I always welcome the fusion of two fashion categories, because the result is almost always uniquely interesting. This Cynthia Dugan Jewelry Silver & Leather Scarf Necklace ($195) fits the description. It's a scarf in that it ties in the front but it's also a necklace due to the material. I had to have the look, minus the price tag, so I set out on a hunt for something similar.

Well, well, look what we have here. This Catherine Michiels Washed Silk Tie ($20) can definitely take the place of the scarf tie above. It's black and silver, and the best part is that it can be worn as a necklace or a bracelet. At that price, I'll take the gray and silver one, too!

When we found out Claudia Schiffer was Stefano Pilati's Spring muse, we were pretty sure the outcome was going to be Fab. See for yourself.

Shot in LA, right smack in front of the Hollywood sign "Y," it is stunning. Though you can barely recognize Claudia's face - it's more just a statuesque blonde in a long and lean navy ensemble - you can tell it's a pro in YSL garb. And notice how the silver grid shoes tie in with the black grid structure. Shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, this image will also serve as the cover of YSL's next manifesto. Style For Style: Halt-er Your Bra

I've never had major problems finding the right bra for a particular top, but I have a bigger-busted friend for whom finding the right bra is a constant battle. Over the weekend, she and I got ready together before heading out for a night on the town, and that is when I witnessed her struggle. She wore a halter top, much like this Theory Kensy Halter Top ($180). Having fairly large breasts, she stays away from strapless bras because they give her that unflattering line across her chest. She wanted to wear her regular bra but didn't want the straps to show because of the halter cut.

Sturdy sewing thread, like this Madeira 18-Spool Sewing Thread Set ($29), is the answer to bra straps with halter tops. However, if you can wear a strapless bra with your halter top that is your best option. But if you get those funky lines that cut across your breasts, the following may work for you. Disclaimer: Make sure your halter top isn't one with spaghetti straps or a V-front. In order for this to work, it must be a mock neck or high-neck halter.

Wear your bra and not your halter top. It's preferable if your bra and halter color match just in case it peeps out.
Have a long piece of sturdy sewing thread (about 12 inches) nearby.
Take your left bra strap in your left hand, and your right bra strap in your right hand, and pull them both in front of you until they touch across the middle of your chest.
You may need the assistance of another person at this point. Grab the thread and tie it around your two bra straps, which are still in front of you. Go around as many times with the string until you feel your bra straps are secure across your chest. Cut the remaining thread so you have a clean knot.
Wear your halter top and you'll notice your bra straps are now hidden underneath the top because they are in the front middle of your chest!

Fab's 10 Fall Essentials: Punchy Cardi

Cardigan obsession right here - especially J. Crew ones. I know what you're thinking: Cardigans are so prim and proper. Au contraire. They are excellent layering tools and there are more ways to cinch one than simply buttoning (try buttoning in the back or doing an old-school tie knot in the front). You don't want to know how many gray cardigans I have - my go-to for travel and lazy Sundays - so I'm thinking I need some punchy colors for the shorter days and colder nights. Call it cardi therapy. This J.Crew Crystal-button colorblock cardigan ($118) outshines the rest. The "silver honey" color is, in fact, punchy and the crystal buttons deliver my daily does of bling. Take note from SJP and pair this with my purple funky booties.
