Take a Peek at the National Portrait Gallery's Queen Exhibit

The Queen: Art & Image is the name of a new exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in honor of Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee. Just like the span of the monarch's reign, the iconic images range from traditional to modern, with commissioned portraits and works by contemporary artists included in the show. The exhibit hopes to demonstrate the evolution of Queen Elizabeth and how she's been portrayed since the 1950s, and as a result how portraiture has changed over that same period.

After her ascension to the throne in 1952 at 25, images of Queen Elizabeth emphasized elegance and youth. By the 1960s, her status as a mother influenced her public persona, but the monarchy also came off as old-fashioned compared to a changing society. According to the exhibit, images from the '70s portray a more relaxed and familiar queen, and by the 1980s, the royal family, including the queen, were treated as celebrities. With the death of Princess Diana, the 1990s were turbulent for the queen and her family, and the diverse images from that period included in the collection demonstrate the confusion. The queen endured all of this, and by the new millennium, images show a Queen Elizabeth who is unwavering.

Works by iconic artists like Andy Warhol, Annie Leibovitz, and Lucian Freud are on display at the gallery, which officially opens the show tomorrow. It will run until Oct. 21. Get an early look at some now.

Cosmo For Latinas Cover Girl Zoe Saldana on the Perks of Being in Her 30s

Zoe Saldana looked radiant in a lilac Elie Saab number at the Cosmopolitan for Latinas launch party last night in NYC. The 33-year-old Avatar star covers the premiere issue of the magazine, which hit newsstands on May 1. Zoe has another reason to celebrate, as she's also nominated for best Latino actor at the upcoming MTV Movie Awards for her work in Colombiana.

Zoe is currently wrapped up in three new projects, shooting two thrillers, Blood Ties and Out of the Furnace, as well as a Star Trek sequel. She may once again don the tight blue suit as Neytiri in Avatar 2, but for last night's launch, Zoe was all about being herself. Having split from boyfriend of 11 years Keith Britton in November of last year, Zoe reflected on her new life. She also spoke about body image, NYC, and how it feels to be in her 30s. Zoe said:

On following her heart: "The reality is, I have gotten this far because I don’t pay attention to anything but my heart and what I want to do. And if it's a hit today, or if it’s a miss tomorrow, seriously - no regrets because if I follow my heart I can never be wrong."
On body image: "I have always been on the slender side, and I am the only one in my family! Trust me, they hate that I can eat! And I am not saying because I got it like that, but the older you get, you to have to be more conscious about your body. Not the image things that might suffer, but it's internal - your heart with cholesterol and fats, or depriving your body of certain nutrients you need just because you want to look good."
On being inspired by her hometown: "There is nothing more beautiful than coming here to New York because this is my native home. Seeing the fashion in the streets, even going into the deli or the bodega, it makes me miss New York so much. But LA is like that too. I just love art, and I don’t care if it comes in a pair of sneakers, a painting, or a Givenchy dress."
On her 30s: "I am very happy now that in my early 30s the pressure of wanting to please others dissipates more and more. And now, it's about being me. There have been a lot of changes in my life over the past year. But I am happy that through all that, the biggest gift I have been receiving every day is getting to know myself not through anybody else and not through another entity or another organization that tells me who I am but me. And it feels kind of fu*king cool being in your 30s, I have to say."

For 20 years Kate Moss has utterly fascinated the fashion industry-and we're no exception, of course. (When I did my stint as an intern here at Fashionista five years ago, more than a few of our office passwords revolved around Miss Moss.) Now, a new book out tomorrow aims to explain why we're still all totally obsessed with the supermodel.

According to its Amazon page, Christian Salmon's Kate Moss: The Making of an Icon explores Moss' proclivity for reinvention and her ability to stay relevant - cutting edge, even over the span of her two-decade career. It tells "the story of an icon, a muse, a legend, an enigma - and how our culture has created the collective Kate Moss myth."

There's one magazine in particular that's been particularly important in perpetuating the "Kate Moss myth": Vogue. According to Stylelist, Moss has appeared on the cover of international issues of Vogue a whopping 300 times.

Last night, Gilt hosted a beautiful event at The Standard hotel in NYC to celebrate Brian Atwood's new collection, and not only did we get to check out the gorgeous clutch collection in person, but we also got up close and personal with the designer himself and chatted about his new line, his most memorable red-carpet moments, and his best friend, and Oscar nominee, Melissa McCarthy. Read below for all of his fun anecdotes.

FabSugar: What was the inspiration behind your beautiful new handbag collection?
Brian Atwood: It was about being surrounded by amazing women, seeing what their needs were. It was about taking that DNA and excitement from what I put into my shoes into a bag and thinking what would that bag look like, how do we make it cool, gorgeous, and showstopping? It's only the beginning, I'm having so much fun.

FS: What are some of your most memorable red-carpet moments?
BA: The first red carpet I had was with Debra Messing at the 2002 SAG Awards. I had no idea, I think she bought them, and someone told me she was wearing my shoes. That's when you really understand the power of the red carpet; it was pretty amazing. Cameron Diaz also wore [my shoes] at the Oscars with a dress which was short in front and long in back. I thought that was perfect. And now we have the shoe cam, I love the shoe cam!
