Former cocktail waitress Sarah Larson is one lucky lady: not only is she on the arm of George Clooney, but she's also at the Oscars! But lucky doesn't necessarily equal fashionable. Her strapless Valentino Couture gown is pretty, but not Oscar-worthy.

After 45 years of dressing women impeccably, Valentino said his last goodbyes yesterday with one final couture collection.
The exit was consummately Valentino. Uma Thurman, Lucy Liu, and newly-appointed Valentino designer Alessandra Facchinetti witnessed a parade of bright bubble coats, tiered gowns, floral prints and ladylike suiting.

Valentino really went all out this time around - but why shouldn't he? He's celebrating his 45th anniversary in fashion!
No doubt about it, the show was extravagant: marabou, sequins, fur, and lamé went every which way.

Why newbie Valentino designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli chose to do a colorless, i.e., black and sometimes nude, couture collection is questionable, alas, the creations are highly wearable, flirtatious, and super femme. With a rich mix of volume and transparency, the house still caters to the red-carpet set, but this collection might also appeal to the daughters of longtime clients. A couple details were unnecessary — the wings were silly and the ruffled shoes were distracting — whereas trompe l'oeil black lace and mystical headpieces were lovely.

Some more daring designers have flirted with the cocoon silhouette, and still-fresh-on-her-thrown Valentino designer Alessandra Facchinetti is having a full-fledged love affair. The house's latest couture collection is characterized by elegance and maturity. You'll find no masculine undertones here.

I'm always game for something different, and these shots definitely fit that description.
The Mondrian-inspired background juxtaposed with Valentino's ruffly Spring couture collection, featuring model Alison Nix, is an unexpected surprise, but I think it works. I love the idea of using geometric shapes and primary colors to back such a soft collection.

Ukranian beauty Olga Kurylenko has been MIA for a while, but she's back, and bolder than ever. At the 2010 Campari Calendar cocktail party in Milan, the actress showed up in a can't-miss-it red Valentino couture gown that perfectly matched the red carpet. Up top she's fully covered in a turtleneck and long sleeves, but she's showing a bit of leg and thigh in a high slit.

Claire's got a snake on her dress! I've got a sweet spot for snake motifs, but I'm not really feeling it with this one-shouldered number - it just doesn't seem to flatter her. Elle, on the other hand, is still living up to her nickname: "The Body."

You're looking at two very different looks on Jennifer and Eva. The former is very glamorous Grecian, while the latter is elegant and understated. Both are appropriate, but I'd take Eva's look in an instant.
