2010 Spring Milan Fashion Week Fab Roundup!

Even under a scrunched time line, Milan Fashion Week stunned with numerous beautiful collections. In this roundup, I highlight some of my favorite designers, including Versace, Ferragamo, Fendi, and Armani, to name a few. I admit, Dolce & Gabbana's collection was my favorite, but that's not stopping me from showing you Bottega's soft and swirly frock, Gucci's cut-out wonder, and Emilio Pucci's magical prints. I can't seem to resist this tropical bohemian masterpiece from Etro. Simply a-mazing.

During my runway research I accumulated some more favorite looks, stand-out pieces, awe-inspiring jewels, and simply cool honorable mentions. Diane's Inglourious Style

Marchesa, Chanel, Stella McCartney, Versace Atelier, Kimchi Blue, Balmain . . . Diane Kruger. Need I say more? Unfortunately Diane's promotional tour for Inglourious Basterds is over - but now we can admire her disheveled WWII glamour in the actual movie. You know I was following her, eying her every fashion move. And what a delight it was. Diane is self-styled, lest we not forget she is close friends with Karl, so it's no surprise she always looked unique and polished. She's one of the few who can make tattered jeans chic and a fedora look new again. From a sculptured scarlet Marchesa dress to prickly Versace Atelier, Diane wooed us all over again. You ready? Fall is nearing and my wallet is taking a momentary nap. Are you ready to review my favorite Fall trends? These are the clothes I am most excited for. Everyone's talking about the '80s power dressing revival - been there, done that. Let's dig a little deeper, shall we? Starting with my favorite neutral: gray day. Gray has a natural way of appearing modern, sporty, and versatile. Take this Versace gown; it is all of the above, with a strict serving of sex appeal. Gray days are meant for a mellow life, and yet they still deliver a strong statement. Happy gray day.

Behind the Seams: Nordstrom Fall 2008 Designer Preview

Seeing runway photos is not nearly as enticing as seeing the clothes live, and Nordstrom's Designer Preview 2008 reiterated that fact. For example, Bill Blass's gray/black tulle-bodice strapless dress - you know, the one Anne Hathaway wore at the Get Smart premiere - literally came to life before my eyes on the catwalk. While I admired it on Anne, I fell madly in love with it that night because I saw the way the bottom half of the dress danced as the model pranced down the runway. Donna Karan, Stella McCartney, Derek Lam, Missoni, Valentino, Michael Kors, Peter Som, Burberry Prorsum, Vera Wang, and Versace also each showed about a dozen Fall looks.

The night was centered around the runway, but the pre- and postparty was also a blast. Clothes hanging on tall racks gave guests, including myself, the chance to get up close and personal with their catwalk faves, while champagne and hors d'oeuvres kept us satiated. Oh, and I got to meet the ultimate San Francisco socialite, Joy Bianchi!

Versace Menswear Launch at Barneys

Donatella Versace was in New York on Tuesday to launch the Spring Menswear line at Barneys. She called on celebrity friends to herald the launch including Woody Allen, Patti LaBelle (who was showing off her Versace tote!) and Simon Doonan.

She was also on the Today show discussing the collection although her strong Italian accent makes the conversation pretty hard to follow!

This Just In: Versace's Beloved Lake Como Villa to Be Sold

Rumor has it, according to Real Estalker, Gianni Versace's beloved Villa Fontanelle in Maltrasio, Lake Como, Italy, the scene of years of glamorous, celebrity-ridden parties, is finally being sold by the Versace clan. There was talk at one point by WWD that the villa would be purchased by a business partner of the fashion house, but The Times reports that filthy rich Russian restaurateur Arkady Novikov is buying the property for $52.3 million. He has apparently bid nearly six million over the asking price, in order to secure it as he gets his finances in order. Hard knock life, huh? The early 19th century villa was originally purchased in total shambles in 1977 by Versace and required serious renovations, including millions spent on creating interiors "consistent with the house's neoclassic architectural style." According to Real Estalker:

The house is also said to feature a massive and spectacular Russian crystal chandelier that once hung in a palace in St. Petersburg, truckloads of Empire era furniture, lots of urns sitting around and plaster medallions depicting Roman emperors stuck to the walls, bathrooms bathed in red marble, original paintings from the late 1700s, insanely intricate plaster detailing, and hundreds of neoclassical objects d'art.

It's sad to see the property change hands, but with George Clooney living nearby, I'm sure Lake Como has enough stars to maintain its glam rep.

There's nothing like a little supermodel wattage to up the ante of an ad campaign. Gisele lends her star power to Versace for Spring, appearing in a rainbow of colors and various states of dishabille. Those enviable legs of hers get closeups along with bangles, bags, and Louboutin-like red-soled shoes. Did famed photog Mario Testino catch her being glam? Or is your eye less than pleased?

Spring Peek: Luster Addict

Metallics have been around the block and back. I'm glad to see them taking on new forms and becoming more fluid and romantic. Marni (pictured) presents the perfect juxtaposition of luster and crispness - a thoroughly modern combination. I am a self-proclaimed luster addict. Can you imagine the ways these clothes move? They are probably blinding in the sun. But that's the beauty of the luster - you just can't keep your eyes off it, no matter how painful it is.

Milan Fashion Week, Spring 2008: Versace

Donatella has struck again! But this time, with a softer force. While the runway oozed with the usual Versace sex appeal, things were a bit more buttoned up, a bit softer, a bit safe.

With a slight safari vibe, daytime separates were very wearable with pocketed shorts, trousers and outerwear. Fabrics of choice were silk and slick leather - again, sexy. While bold and sometimes baby solids ruled, an aqua-infused floral print broke up the monochrome. Nevertheless, the Versace signatures - asymmetrical shapes, draping and cut outs - sexed up sweet gowns.

You know cropped trousers are a Spring favorite when even Versace is doing them. But here, Donatella manages to make even those appear, you guessed it, sexy.

Soft and delicate usually isn't how you'd describe anything from Versace. Usually this brand has a more sexy, shocking and sensual connotation, but its new fragrance, Versace Signature has not ceased to amaze me with its unassuming light floral scent.

It made from a sweet blend of orchid, lotus, nymphea, azalea jasmine, musk, kashmir wood and cedarwood-the notes of which create a precious and warm fragrance. The collection just launched and is so far only sold at Saks, but everything is available online for your convenience.

Models & Actresses Honor Gianni Versace

Last night in Milan, models and actresses came out to a special ballet to honor Gianni Versace on the 10th anniversary of his death. The show was called "Thank you, Gianni, with love," and featured costumes designed by Gianni over the years. The ladies dazzled in Versace ranging from vintage on Naomi to their fall collection on Claudia. Alba's attendance seems a bit random, but she looked gorgeous as well. Even 10 years later, Gianni is clearly missed by the fashion world.

Fall Glimpse: Bold & Bright

Banish cold weather blahs forever with the upcoming bold & bright Fall offerings.
