Who here has seen the movie Jawbreaker? It came out in 1999 and was the most morbid chick flick I've ever seen. Needless to say, I loved it. This Veruca Salt song was perfectly placed in the film and matched the angst and aggression of the untouchable gorgeous girls in the film. Veruca Salt themselves were rockin' chicks with a vengeance. Maybe Lycra bell bottoms and goth platforms will be in style someday again - they certainly were then. The erratic energy of this video is palpable and the volcano girls are eruptive. Rock on.

Veruca Salt is a spoiled brat. She's the only child of a wealthy couple, and a real daddy's girl. She "wins" a Golden Ticket in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory by having her Daddy's factory workers go through thousands of Wonka Bars. In fact, her personal mantra is: "I want it NOW!" - she sings a whole song centering around those four words.

Veruca would like to think she's one of a kind, but her look is actually pretty easy to put together. Well, almost. Don't forget the sour face and the blonde mink coat she's so proud of. And feel free to throw a temper tantrum here and there: this girl is one bad egg; that's what Wonka's egg-sorting machine judged her, after all.

Halloween Costume Idea: Veruca Salt

The costume: Veruca Salt
No, we're not talking about the '90s band. We're talking about the one and only spoiled rich girl of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory fame.

Hair and makeup: Have strawberry blond hair (or a strawberry blond wig)? That's step one. Step two is to dot in a few freckles with a brown-red eyeliner or lip liner in colors such as sienna or rust. Step three? Add some kind of warm, peachy cheek and lip color for a youthful glow.

What to wear: If you have the dough (or your rich father does, obviously), head to Etsy, where seller srdodd will sew up a custom dress ($200) for you. Otherwise, eBay or your local thrift store should have some type of mod-era red frock. Top off with a white laced dickey, white tights, a black belt, and black Mary Janes.

Take it to the next level: Walk around with a sourpuss pout and a spoiled brat attitude. Just stay away from any and all rubbish shoots.
