The Look For Less: Proenza Schouler Safari Vest

Proenza Schouler's Spring '08 collection was inspirational to me because it took certain safari-esque pieces and glamorized them. I especially fell hard for the belted, long khaki vests (left). But being lovestruck doesn't usually equal cha-ching.

Sometimes Bebe's selections are so loud it hurts. Other times, like in the case of this Bebe Stretch Plaid Long Vest ($98), they are subtly stylish. I immediately had a vision of Proenza Schouler's runway show when I laid eyes on this vest. It's the most sophisticated and inexpensive way to dabble with the safari trend. Who's with me on this expedition?

Fab Redux: Quite the In-Vest-Ment

Since I'm really getting into back to school mode, this little ivory sweater vest is perfect: right along the same school of thought! It's from the 80s and would be a great layering piece, especially come cooler Fall weather. Slip it on over a long-sleeved, blousy number and you're set (well except for the pants part)!

Fabworthy: American Apparel Poplin Reversible Vest

Hello my name is FabSugar and I'm addicted to American Apparel. Okay, now that I got that out of the way, I can go on and on about how much I adore this Poplin Reversible Vest, $36, that comes in eight color combos.

The first thing that appealed to me is that it's reversible - coolness. If one day I am feeling blue, I can wear the light blue side. If the other I am feeling dark, I can wear the black side. Heck, if I'm feeling really excited, I can wear bright turquoise! I also love that it looks so crisp and clean against a white tank. It would spice up any old jeans-and-t-shirt outfit in an instant. Fabworthy indeed!

Here's Fergie doing something other than working out. I know, shocking huh? I'll leave the gossip to Pop, but I must comment on her fashion choices.

Has Fergie ever heard of the concept "less is more?" This girl repeatedly wears too many trends all at once. I appreciate the pieces in her black and white outfit, but all together, it's too much. I would have kept the hat and done away with the sunnies, the chunky ring, vest and black skinnies.

I would have worn denim skinny jeans just to add some color. Oh, and I would have removed that studded Morning Star from the Mulberry bag; it looks like a creature from Mars.

Menswear vests are still in, but now is the ideal time to cozy up to a cable-knit sweater vest. It whispers Fall, and keeps you warm enough without suffocating. You can wear it over a tank to show off your arms or a long-sleeve tee when it gets super chilly. I admit, this New York & Co. Belted Cable Sweater Vest ($28, originally $40) doesn't look as cozy, but for such a major price cut, it will do. It has the same serene hue and can be wrapped around your body for warmth. It also comes in wine, black, and heather gray. Alloy has a gray version that's really nice, too. For a tinge of severity, I would wear it over rockin' liquid leggings and booties.
