Sprouting an Eco Timepiece

As much as we love gadgets around here, most of them certainly aren't earth-friendly, which is why we get excited when we come across a gadget designed with the planet in mind.

Created of at least 80 percent low-impact, biodegradable, recyclable, or renewable materials, the Sprout watch can be added to our shopping list with a clear conscience. The watches are made from corn resin, a resource that should replicate the strength of synthetic plastics, yet break down in a compost environment within three years. Other materials that may be used for specific product designs are selected within a similar vein: diamonds are certified conflict-free, batteries are mercury-free, cotton straps are organic and highly renewable bamboo is used on the faces.

I don't usually wear a watch (that's what my iPhone is for), but I might change my tune for the Nooka + Neff Zub ZenV 20 watch ($150). Not only are the colors kinda '80s-retro fab, but it comes with a hint of Japanese flair, too. Something I'm always down for. New Balenciaga Limited-Edition Watch: Love It or Hate It?

Balenciaga just came out with its new limited-edition watch collection ($1,375-$1,445), and I want to get your thoughts since they're unlike many watches out there. That's probably because they're inspired by Cristobal Balenciaga's historical clock. They make a statement, that's for sure - the thick strap is standard, but the circle face on the rectangular plate is a unique look. Price aside, would you want to sport one?

Swatch Color Codes Are Way Cools

I've been waiting for Swatch's big comeback. I remember my brother's in the '80s like it was yesterday . . . and he had a radical orange Swatch guard on it. Way cools. Swatch's new Color Code collection may be it, folks. Priced at the $50 soft spot, these funky plastic watches come in a candy array of colors, with contrasting numbers on the dial. Perfect as a gift for your brother, your lover, or yourself.

Fab Ad: Gucci Timepieces, Spring '10

At first glance, I thought the youthful cutie in Gucci's Spring '10 watch campaign was Miranda Kerr. Way wrong: the beauty pictured in the black and white backdrop is actually the lovely Veruschka. The photo, which dates back to the '60s, was taken from the Gucci archives and layered with an image of Gucci's new timepiece. Similar process to what Stella McCartney did for her Spring campaign, but with a Veruschka and the late actor Peter Sellers instead of the family dog. There's no better way to show off the meaning of timeless beauty than with Veruschka looking so elegant and chic in her floppy hat and Gucci logo-adorned bags. The watch is pretty awesome, too.
