Out with the gold, in with the silver. Is 2010 a silver year? Has gold of years prior, finally passed? According to Gaga, yes. Seldom seen without sunglasses, the Lady Gaga is performing with ultra high shoulder detailing, we saw it on the runway last Fall, but the high shoulders, it seems, will just be getting higher for 2010. The disco ball enhanced silver sparkles against white tailored ultra high-waist pants looks great on stage.

How do you wear it on the streets? A silver tank tucked into the high waisted pants would look amazing and work just as well. Throw on a silver jacket and you have this 2010 style in the bag!

Bust down old dowdy myths and embrace the white out. White pants come in many different styles and are a crisp alternative to wearing blue jeans. A more relaxed pair like Fendi's (left), from their 2009 Resort collection, will evoke a laid-back attitude while a pair of skinny white jeans will garner attention. Either way, white out is so in.

As we approach the holidays, I'm on the lookout for original party looks. Eva's wink may not be up to par, but the slick tuxedo-inspired look she wore to the 2010 Pirelli Calendar cocktail reception in London was beyond Fab. She dressed up her slight harem pants with delicate sandals, a draped white top, and a velvet blazer. Feminine details like a black lace peekaboo bra and radiant art deco earrings are suave touches. A jolt of red satin via her clutch is holiday-tastic.

Fab Exclusive! Alexa Chung Does Not Shop Online . . . but We Love Her Anyway

One of my most anticipated events of New York Fashion Week was Alexa Chung's preview party for her Madewell collection.

The reason is twofold; you know I'm a Madewell fanatic, and I was curious to meet girl-about-town Alexa. The totally unpretentious, totally fun party validated my obsessions. Due out in the Fall, mini Alexas were stationed around the Bowery Hotel. That means denim hot pants, grandpa cardigans, tweed blazers, romantic blouses, vintage jewelry, and clogs. Some of her friends - Pixie Geldof and Poppy Delevigne - served as models; Project Runway alum Christian Siriano even made a cameo. I received word that Madewell will be launching e-commerce early Summer, but until then, here's some Alexa dish.

So what do you think of your collection for Madewell?

It's a bit weird, because everyone looks like me. I love it, it's great.

What are your favorite pieces?

That black velvet shirt, that silk white skirt, in the Winter it would be really nice with a navy blue peacoat.

Did you design the jewelry?

No, we got the ideas from antique stores.

You've been in New York about a year now. How would you describe the difference between New York and London style?

England is more eclectic and gathering vintage finds and from your friends and whatever goes. America is more status-based, you get the right bag and put together a chic look. I think both are great, in a different way.

Do you shop online?

No, I don't, sorry! I'm rubbish with technology. I do go on Facebook and Twitter.

Do you prefer warm weather or cold weather dressing?

I like transitional seasons. My signature pieces are a navy blue boyish coat, a '60s silk dress, and hot pants.

Did you pick the soundtrack for this party?

My friend is the DJ and I requested '60s girl groups.

Look Book Love: Madewell, Spring '10

Now that we know the inspiration behind a lot of Madewell's righteous pieces is Alexa Chung, let's examine its Spring collection. Dungarees - we called it - made a debut, along with the usual gamut of cute separates comprised of skinny pants, boyfriend jeans, and casual tees. Also apparent were a sweet selection of printed dresses and skirts - I especially love this black and white printed pencil mini. I think I'll have to stop into the NYC store during Fashion Week!

Rodarte Sport? Fashion and the Olympics Collide

There are two marathons coming up: New York Fashion Week and the Olympics. I don't know if you know this about me, but I have a sporty side and I get a bit Olympic obsessed. And I'm not the only fashion/sport hybrid. Ralph Lauren, Rodarte, and Dsquared are also gearing up for the games. First up, Ralph Lauren, who designed Team USA's opening ceremony navy puffer jackets, white pants, and cute Fair Isle knit hats. We will see these pieces - from the Polo Ralph Lauren Olympic collection - on the 150 athletes representing the US.
In The New York Times Magazine this Sunday, witness a Ryan McGinley portfolio, featuring 13 Olympians training in custom-made Rodarte knit garments. Here is figure skater Johnny Weir, mid-axel, in a full crochet knit jumpsuit - whoa. Other Olympians in the story include figure skaters Evan Lysacek, Rachael Flatt, and pair Keauna McLaughlin and Rockne Brubaker; freestyle skiers Jeret "Speedy" Peterson, Hannah Kearney, and Emily Cook; snowboarders Hannah Teter and Kelly Clark; and ski jumper Anders Johnson.

The Canadian bros are clearly psyched for the Vancouver games. The twins are designing costumes for the headlining performers at the opening and closing ceremonies, running the torch the morning of Feb. 10 in North Vancouver, and hosting a party at the Vancouver Holt Renfrew Feb. 13 to launch a limited-edition fleece hoodie that will be available exclusively at Holt Renfrew stores. Let the games begin!

2010 Spring Couture: Jean Paul Gaultier

Sometimes fashion is serendipitous. I just saw Avatar last weekend, and lo and behold, it's the inspiration behind Jean Paul Gaultier's Spring couture collection. "I saw 'Avatar' and, like everyone, found it extraordinary. And from there, I began thinking of nature and ecology, and the Latin American tropics and from there it was not very far to Mexico," explained Gaultier. Just when I was envisioning my Avatar-inspired Burning Man outfit, JPG churns out the most phenomenal couture collection yet.Spanish influences were explained via embroidery, white ruffled blouses (and pant skirts), shawls, and refined black separates. A black and white Aztec motif stands out, while some creations perfectly blend sci-fi with the primitive. The most awe inspiring were beaded, feathered, sculpted, and adorned with exotic accessories. Karlie could upstage Neytiri in her decadent feather fan hoop skirt, tailored jacket, and headdress. Get ready to go back to Pandora . . .

It could have been overlooked, had Jessica Stroup not looked so good in her Amber Valleta for Monrow Gold Lace Hot Pants. Now, Miley Cyrus tried the cuties on for size. She went for a more urban approach, pairing them with tough boots, a white tee, metallic belt, and lots of hair. Both fun ways to wear hot holiday shorts. 2010 Spring: Calvin Klein, CK Jeans, and CK Underwear

Clean. Precise. Minimal. Three terms Calvin Klein wants you to use when describing its Spring '10 collection. Staying true to the house's less-is-more aesthetic, Francisco Costa has delivered a line of basics with a sexy utilitarian nature. You'll find organic fabrics and most colors of the rainbow: sand, white, and khaki as staples, canary, melon, poppy, fuchsia, turquoise, and cobalt as accents. Drawstring cargos, denim vests, fitted blazers, parkas, denim judo pants, and shirt dresses are all solid. But one print piece stands out as the cool black sheep: a black-and-white, tie-dye dress that's feminine and bold.

Swimsuits are also part of the Spring family - a two-piece in warm gray and a one piece in solid gray or gray Bengal print. The handbags are equally minimal; hobos, totes, and rounded clutches are smooth and unstructured, with gold and silver hardware. Wooden-stacked heels and flat sandals are au naturel and sporty.
