Compare & Contrast: Wearing a Winter White Coat

White coats are snowballing as the latest outerwear trend. They're bold, cozy, and the best foray into the season without actually having to freeze. That said, there's a right and wrong way to bundle up in them . . . the proof is in these examples of Kate Moss and Eva Longoria.

Kate Moss: Kate knows how to rock every piece of clothing she owns and a bold white coat is no exception.

Coat: Staying true to her street-chic style, she dons a fancy fur-trim coat yet makes it look casual and effortless.

Shoes: Though she's wearing a stark white coat, she knows better than to go matchy matchy with her footwear. Instead, her suede over-the-knee boots give her a rock 'n roll edge.

Accessories: Because her outerwear is loud, Kate kept the accessories to a bare minimum: a simple clutch and no jewels.

Eva Longoria: The actress opted for a long white coat to keep her fully covered.

Coat: Because she's petite, the long coat is overbearing. Still, the slight flare at the bottom and tie-waist belt lend a girly flair.

Shoes: Pairing UGGs with a classy coat took the look from potentially chic to tacky and immature. They make her legs look unnecessarily stumpy.

Accessories: Can you tell Eva loves to pile on the accessories? A white fedora, jumbo black patent bag, and a tassel - it's all too much. Less would have been way more.

Feel Like a Spring Chicken - and Feast on One, Too

A whole roast chicken is one the easiest weekend meals to prepare; it's pretty hands-off, requires minimal cleanup, and usually yields plenty of leftovers for the rest of the work week. During the Winter, I keep this recipe pretty simple with potatoes and onions but once Spring has sprung, I love to add carrots, radishes, bell pepper, and even asparagus.
To season the chicken, coat it in a mixture of Dijon mustard, lemon juice, and olive oil. Place the squeezed lemon rinds inside the cavity of the chicken for even more zest. Of course, a whole chicken will take longer to cook than those delicate Spring veggies, so I always start the chicken with baby potatoes and onions. As the chicken roasts, I add the other vegetables depending on their thickness and cook time. Carrots and radishes can take the heat but sliced bell pepper and asparagus should go nearly at the end. Serve your succulent chicken and Spring vegetables with some crusty French bread and white wine for a perfect weekend meal. Feast on your Spring chicken once you get the recipe.

Something about Fab reader Greaseandglamour's sophisticated ensemble reminded us of Upper East Side-meets-Gossip Girl luxe and to (double) top it off, we love how she made it distinctly her own. First, she paired a collared blouse with slouchy Maison Martin Margiela sweatpants. Then, she put not one, but two coats - a slick trench and a white fur jacket - on to keep the outfit layered and Winter-to-Spring ready. Her gold collar necklace and large two-toned portfolio clutch provided the final touches to a sleek look.

See by Chloé Fall 2012

For its Fall 2012 collection, See by Chloé presented its first runway show in Paris today, and being the modern line that it is, it did the presentation digitally, showing on the Chloé website this morning. It was a collection meant to be seen in movement, as the opening looks were all about flow - diaphanous fabrics cut into draped tops, silky pants, and soft dresses that fluttered on the models. Ideal Spring dresses now, they make for a soft contrast later with Winter knits and coats. It was all about effortless chic - a pert peacoat was done in rusty wide wale cord and worn over a bodysuit; a black asymmetric skirt was paired with a superbly cut black blazer. Blouson sleeves returned, a romantic touch on casually draped tops and dresses. It's a collection you can build a wardrobe on, and that's exactly the point of Chloé's little sister line, no?

Trends: Draped silks, slouchy pants, blouson sleeves, wide wale corduroy
Colors: Lime green, olive green, red, black, white, taupe.

A Fun Craft For Kids: Personalized Decoupage

These cold Winter days are perfect for indoor arts and crafts, so try this fun, original decoupage activity with your kids on the next rainy afternoon. Simple and quick, it's an easy way for them to create some new decor while spending some quality time with you.

What you'll need:

Scissors
Decoupage craft glue or diluted white school glue
Paintbrush or foam brush
Used book pages, sheet music, or photos
An item to decoupage (mug, picture frame, furniture, etc.)

What to do:

Encourage your child to pick out their favorite song, book, or photos to use for the project. Cut the book pages, sheet music, or photos into small pieces.
Brush a layer of glue onto whatever item you've chosen to decoupage. Or if it's easier, brush glue onto the back of the cut pieces before placing them on the item. Make sure to brush out or flatten any bubbles beneath each piece so that it lays flat.
Once the item is dry, brush a coat of glue across the entire item to seal in the different pieces. Let that coat dry, then repeat as necessary until you're sure that the pieces are secure.

Get creative with the decoupage add-ons. Consider including magazine pages, pieces of ribbon, candy wrappers, fake flower petals, or anything else your kids might love. We love the idea of a book page collage on a nightstand, or sheet music and pieces of ribbon on a mug. These items would make great personalized presents, too, so consider turning it into a gift for grandparents or a teacher.

True to the Rachel Zoe manifesto, her Fall '12 lineup delivered a unique mix of nostalgic and contemporary-cool pieces. Inspired by the rock 'n' roll glamour of 1960s London - think Mick Jagger and Marianne Faithfull - the collection boasted all the trademark elements of that oh-so-cool era. Knit minidresses, sequined gowns with updated twists, tailored menswear-inspired suits in jewel-toned velvets and tweeds, and an arsenal of must-have shaggy faux fur coats set the retro tone without ever seeming outdated. To top off these sweet rocker looks, the models also showed off something entirely new to the Zoe brand: chunky art-deco jewelry and cozy-chic Winter accessories. Translation?
