Trend Alert: Winter Yellow

Why does Kylie Minogue look so chipper in this picture? Could it be because she is wearing sunny, happy winter yellow? I would not have guessed it was January in gray London by the looks of this picture. I have been noticing quite a few celebs wearing this bright hue - it goes fantastically with black, grey and denim. Need a winter pick me up? Throw on this color for size. Oh, and did you all see my Look Book post where I'm wearing my fave yellow pumps? Part nautical, part pop, this is a great trend to transition into Spring 2007. Diane von Furstenberg Fall 2012

Designers have been sticking to a more neutral palette for Winter but not Diane von Furstenberg and Yvan Mispelaere. Showing to a celebrity-filled crowd at Lincoln Center - we spotted Solange, Molly Sims, Coco Rocha, and Barbara Walters in the crowd - the duo filled the runway with gorgeous color combos in every jewel tone imaginable. The theme of the collection was "rendezvous," further explained in the show notes as "glamorous at a moment's notice." The outcome was sexy, effortless French-inspired dressing in the way of formfitting wool jersey dresses, wrap skirts, office-appropriate separates, and drapey asymmetric jumpsuits. A pink rendition of the latter, paired with an oversized dark burgundy coat, was one of the highlights of the collection. Whimsical prints - puzzle pieces, quotation marks, and keyholes, were splayed across an array of wrap skirts, oversized coats, and blouses, emoting a sense of mysterious quirk. Whether you're a working woman or just looking to paint the town red, DVF has you covered.

Trends: Sheer insets, high slits, halter and racerback details.
Colors: Raspberry, seafoam green, scarlet red, dark teal, black, mustard yellow.
Key Piece: We loved the asymmetric pink jumpsuit paired with a gorgeous dark burgundy coat.

Charlotte Ronson Fall 2012

Charlotte Ronson showed off warm, gorgeous color on an urban-cool collection for Fall 2012. She delivers both sophistication and cool-girl edge in the same breath, working graphic print, slick leather, and a brilliant palette onto slim knits paired with menswear-inspired trousers. We get a little of the designer's après-ski influence on a fresh reinterpretation of Winter knits done in cool camel and yellow. But it's mostly Ronson's eye for balancing downtown street-chic with uptown polish we love; how she gives us both a sharpness and a sense of femininity that's entirely wearable.

Trends: Leather, fur, cutouts, menswear-inspired trousers.
Colors: Black, red, yellow, camel.
Key Piece: The black leather jacket over the femme red pleated dress and tights; the utilitarian tweed jacket with zips and pockets.

Don't just stick to yellow clothing - this pop of color applies to all spectrums of the styling wheel. Whether it be saffron-tinged fringe or a neon lemon-hued saddlebag, these yellow details are unexpectedly cool.

Add Chic, Saturated Color to Your Home With Midnight Blue

Forget brown, black, white, or beige - when it comes to neutral colors, give me the deepest, darkest blue. From midnight blues to indigos and deep navy, this shade has so much life to it and infinite variety. Pair it with Winter white for a cool, elegant look, or mix it with rich chocolate browns for a warmer, cozier feel. I'd also love to see it paired with a hot pink, fuchsia, or electric yellow. However you choose your color mix, here are some great midnight-blue pieces to get you started.

One of my favorite pieces from Anthropologie is the Henri Dining Chair ($170, top row, right). Made in Italy, this chair would look amazing with a contrasting cushion - I'm thinking Joel Dewberry's Heirloom home decor fabric collection in dandelion would look particularly smashing.

I have to admit I'm completely lusting over the Milo Baughman Velvet Sofa ($14,000, second row, right). This incredible 1970s-era sofa is built on a wrap-around chrome-plated steel frame and has been newly reupholstered in a decadent blue/gray velvet. It's the ultimate elegant lounger.

For a lighter touch of this versatile shade, add a set of Vintage Navy Blue Glassware ($8, third row, middle) to your collection. Use them for entertaining or everyday service; each piece is dyed in a beautiful navy-blue color.
