Give Your Bedroom a Stylish Makeover With Industrial Accents

The industrial trend has been around for a while, but it's usually reserved for the living room or dining area - so why not try it in your bedroom? Mix these rustic wood and metal accents with your soft, cozy bedroom décor for an unexpected, contemporary style.

The Hoyne Pendant Lamp ($399, top center) adds a cool, urban touch without seeming out of place. With a hand-welded iron wire build and a galvanized steel finish, it's a great way to tap into the trend without letting go of your usual style.

It's two fads in one: the Horchow "Vermundo" Mirror ($450, top right) combines the sunburst mirror craze with the industrial obsession. With a 43" diameter, it's a large statement piece, but neutral wood in a light walnut stain keeps it subtle and understated.

Going for something more sleek? Try the Hilja Nightstand ($998, bottom center). Made of white ash wood, the piece isn't too far from a traditional side table, but its streamlined design carries an urban, modern sophistication.

Go For the (DIY) Gold Accents

If you're dreaming of gorgeous gilded furniture without the luxury price tag, why not create your own? Whether you want large metallic furnishings or simple golden accents, try going the DIY route with easy-to-use paint products. Not only will you save some money, but you'll also have control over how bright (or how subtle) the golden shades turn out. Here are a few DIY ideas:

Dip your toes into the trend by making simple golden picture frames. Wash plain wooden frames, allow them to dry, then brush on a few coats of Martha Stewart Crafts Liquid Gilding. If the frames are glossy, you may need to use a primer so that the paint stays put. A simpler option? Purchase frames that are made of unfinished wood.

Going for a statement piece? A 24-karat piece of furniture isn't exactly practical, but you can get the look of Robert Coin's gold table by sanding a standard wooden table and adding several layers of spray paint. For a bold, shiny style, try a shimmery option like Krylon Premium Metallic Spray Paint.

If you're a gold commitment phobe, invest in a simple piece like the Jonathan Adler Hera Vase ($195) or create the look yourself with Testors Enamel Paint Markers and a solid vase in your favorite shade.

Become a Color Connoisseur With Pantone's Pretty Palettes For 2013

According to the PANTONE VIEW home + interiors 2013 book, there are nine color palettes predicted to dominate interior design and furniture trends in 2013. A mix of muted palettes serve as the new classics while rainbow-inspired colors provoke bolder style statements.

The first palette in Pantone's 2013 lineup, Connoisseur, draws from cool neutrals like alyssum white and beechnut green, contrasted with warmer tones of violets and orchids, liquid pink, and deep mahogany, all set against accents of champagne beige and silver. The palette puts a fresh spin on old-world elegance, with decorative pieces that layer texture. It's refined and sophisticated with just the right amount of understated drama.

Missoni Fall 2012

For Missoni's Fall 2012 collection, designer Angela Missoni was inspired by a mix of urban influences and an immersion in nature and landscape. According to show notes, the woman of Fall '12 is a "heroine in a concrete jungle," and conceives fashion as an "evocative adventurous fantasy" while maintaining a strong-willed, sophisticated yet sensitive vibe. The collection was, of course, loaded with Missoni's signature knits, but this time in a more subtle, less cognizant way - the zigzag print was evident in supertight trousers and knee-length tank dresses, but soon gave way to plaid wool and alternating geometric and amorphous patterns. This urban warrior woman was protected by elbow-length leather gloves, latex corsets, shiny metallic embellishments, as well as chunky, thin-tipped heels and boots, and carried chic square-shaped bags with chain straps and wood grain detailing. Overall, the Missoni girl is more than prepared to battle the elements of the concrete jungle come Fall.

Trends: Fur accents, shoulder wraps, print mixing, long hemlines.
Colors: Red, rust, gray, blue, moss green, brown.
Key Piece: The sheer lace dress with brocade cape; the gold-encrusted party dress with black veil.
Accessories: Elbow-length leather gloves, thin waist belts, fur hats, thin-tipped boots and heels, geometric gold brooches.
Who Would Wear It: Leighton Meester, Olivia Palermo, and of course, Margherita Missoni.

The lovely Brooke Shields just granted Architectural Digest an exclusive look at her Manhattan town house, and I'm in love with each room that's featured. While a portion of the article is on the site, be sure to pick up a copy of the March issue of Architectural Digest to read the entire fascinating exclusive. Shields worked with decorator David Flint Wood on her four-story Greenwich Village town house, mixing modern art and accents with beautiful antique furniture. My favorite photo is from Shields's living room, seen here.

One of the major focal points of the living room is the pair of Louis XVI-style armchairs. A great resource for antiques like this is 1stDibs.com, and I found a near match in these 19th century French Louis XVI-style chairs ($5,900).
Newly upholstered in a neutral linen, they'd become the centerpiece of any room in which they were placed.

Perhaps my favorite element of this room - although it's definitely hard to choose just one piece - is the original Keith Haring painting that was a gift to Brooke from Haring himself. While we can't all be so lucky, we can buy a similar print from Art.com. Untitled ($150), a print featuring three of Keith Haring's works, comes framed and ready to hang.

This $68,000 Speaker is Made of Diamonds and Magic

CES is a place to find expensive gadgets and fine leather tech goods, but you may also stumble upon speakers made of diamonds and simulated wood grain products.

These $68,000 speakers were inspired by a flower in a wine bottle (you can see it now, can't you?), and were carefully crafted only after 3D mock-ups were perfected in a studio. Metal, leather, gold accents, and Russian diamonds cover the entirety of the speaker and accompanying subwoofer, while a brushed aluminum with floral accents keeps it standing upright.

You'll have to wait in line to get one of your own though, as the manufacturer, All Jack, hasn't released an availability date.

Madonna Pays Homage to Her Mother With New Truth or Dare Fragrance

It's official: Madonna is launching her first perfume. Dubbed Truth or Dare ($39 to $68) by Madonna, the scent pays homage to her 1992 documentary, Madonna: Truth or Dare, but it also pays homage to her mom, who passed away when Madonna was just 5.

"My oldest memory of my mother is her perfume. I carry it with me everywhere. She always smelled like gardenias and tuberose, an intoxicating mixture [that was] feminine and mysterious. I wanted to re-create this scent, but with something fresh and new about it as well. Something honest and yet daring - hence the name Truth or Dare," Madonna told WWD. To see more, keep reading.
