Sprightly, Not-So-Mellow Yellow Finds For a Fab Summer

The color yellow isn't my go-to color for decorating, but there's no denying that a splash of the sprightly hue can bring an instant summery look to your interior or exterior spaces. The Refreshing Lemonade Urn ($198) is bound to be a hit at backyard barbecues on hot Summer days. Hang the J. Schatz Egg Planter ($95) from a tree or on your patio and keep the birds and the bees happy with a pop of color. Jeff Andrews Calls It Mellow Yellow

In the premiere issue of the new Traditional Home/Lonny digital magazine hybrid Trad Home, one of the 20 designers heralded for ushering in a "new trad" design style is one of my personal favorites: Jeff Andrews. Trad Home gives us a peek at a cozy living room Andrews designed for a client with a young family. There are plenty of elements to swoon over, like velvet upholstery, a plush shag rug, and a foursome of starburst mirrors, but what I'm truly coveting is the mellow yellow color palette!

A mix of chartreuse textiles, gilded furniture and accessories, and layers of dark greens paired with two shades of green paint come together perfectly to create a dimensional, engaging, and relaxed space. The surest way to replicate this look is to pick up some groovy green paint swatches and then head straight to the fabric shop to have your furniture upholstered. I spotted this living room in Swedish decorating magazine Hus & Hem, and I adore it. There's nothing too bold about the space; it's just calm, casual, and cozy. I love the balance of the reserved pale yellow sofa with the trendy cowhide rug and Moroccan tea table. The black table and floor lamps are understated as well, and the mix of various striped pillows offers a laid-back attitude. Meanwhile, the original artwork isn't quite gallery-worthy, but the way the frames and initial letters are laid on the picture ledges makes the whole room.

When Scarlett razzles, she certainly dazzles. The bodacious blonde rocked a citrus yellow Preen Plaza dress, hard. We adored her in emerald green lace at last night's MTV Movie Awards, but this bolder Scarlett, at the Spike TV awards, takes the cupcake. Are You a Yellow Person?

Kim from Desire to Inspire just completed this gorgeous bathroom makeover in her home. The space is mostly black and white, but I love how she introduced a pop of yellow with her side chair, pulling out the sunny color from adjacent framed artwork. I've never had such a bright shade of yellow in my home, but I do own a soft yellow armchair. Be it subtle or vivid, do you have any yellow in your home?

It seems sunshine follows Cali girl Lauren Conrad wherever she goes. Case in point: in NYC, in her happy swing coat. Yellow, an unexpected yet friendly color, always brightens drab Winter days. I have a happy red Miu Miu coat I rarely wear, not because I don't love it, but simply because it rarely gets cold enough in San Francisco for it. Nonetheless, it makes a statement and is utterly ladylike. Just like LC. P.S. Nice stems.
