Paris Haute Couture was a whirlwind of wild clothes, beautiful styling, and unexpected combinations, but of everything that came down the runway, only a few looks are destined to stick in the minds of the style-makers who decide what makeup shades and hairstyles will be on the street a few months from now. The looks here made the cut, either because they're just too gorgeous to pass up or too wild to forget. Ready to get a little crazy/beautiful?

Paris is the high cathedral of haute looks, one of the cities where fashion is as much a fine art as a business, but clothes aren't the only quotidian part of getting ready that the designing minds take to creative extremes. Looking at the hairstyles from Jean Paul Gaultier's collection this morning, I was reminded just how much an art hairstyling can be in the right hands and what a vital form of self-expression it is for many people. But what do you think?

Today in Paris, models at the Chanel show walked the runway wearing these massive heart-shaped updos covered in Victorian bric-a-brac that made them look like old-fashioned Valentine's Day cards. Paris Fashion Week is off to a haute start today, with shows from Dior, Christophe Josse, Josephus Thimister, and Alexis Mabille. The models all had half their hair "dyed" (they were really glue-in hair extensions) in DayGlo hues, from bright pink and blue to this life jacket yellow.

Marc Jacobs had a lot of fun in Paris for the Louis Vuitton Spring show, where models strutted down the catwalk with Afro hair and oversize accessories. The show must have felt like a relief for some of the girls as fears of tripping over were lessened with kitten heel shoes! After many seasons of sky-high heels and several slipups, the tides are changing and smaller platforms are back en mode.
