Paris Fashion Week, Spring 2010: Balenciaga

Paris Fashion Week continued yesterday with some of the cities biggest design names. Balenciaga, Isabel Marant and Balmain took their designs to catwalk showcasing what we'll be wearing next Spring. Nicolas Ghesquière layered up at Balenciaga with strung together waistcoats and hooded sleeveless jackets. Leather continued to be an important fabric with motorcycle trousers, kilts and jackets. There was a sporty feel to the items with elasticated detailing, pockets, and hoods. Ghesquière definitely went for a more Streetwear angle, he told Style, "I wanted to do something urban. No more history for the moment!"

There was also an industrial feel to the collection with panels of colour, engineered fabric and exposed zips. Miranda Kerr made a rare catwalk appearance in grey leather showing off her versatility. To see more images from the collection, just keep reading

Trend Alert: Drawstring Bags

There are two rules I abide by when shopping: function and fashion. That's why I'm so smitten with the resurgence of drawstring bags. This sporty, luxe attitude goes perfectly with today's casual cool style and even translates well when paired with tailored ensembles. Oh, on another note, I purchased a crackly gold metallic version of this Foley + Corinna Drawstring Bag ($445) a couple months ago - so rad.

Fall is nearing and my wallet is taking a momentary nap. Are you ready to review my favorite Fall trends? These are the clothes I am most excited for. Everyone's talking about the '80s power dressing revival - been there, done that. Let's dig a little deeper, shall we? Starting with my favorite neutral: gray day. Gray has a natural way of appearing modern, sporty, and versatile. Take this Versace gown; it is all of the above, with a strict serving of sex appeal. Gray days are meant for a mellow life, and yet they still deliver a strong statement. Happy gray day.

Fab Ad: Jennifer Connelly for Balenciaga

Jennifer Connelly has returned as the face of Balenciaga this Autumn after a brief hiatus. She last appeared in the campaign in Spring 2008 in an impressive heeled gladiator boots. I am happy to see her return to Balenciaga, but can't help but feel that this campaign is a bit awkward. Fellow blogger Sassy Bella was less than impressed by the shot, which has also been described as looking like she'd passed out drunk. One things for sure, it certainly shows off the clothing well. Otherwise, I'm not sure about this image which was shot by Steven Meisel – what do you think?

Jennifer Connelly is back as the Balenciaga muse. For Spring '08 she was standing proud, she sat out two seasons, and for Fall she's sprawled out on a couch. Many are commenting that her pose this time around is awkward and too sexy for the house, but I think her pose last time was equally stiff and awkward. Let me paint the picture for you: legs spread, arms stretched, and nearly falling off a couch, albeit in ultra chic polka-dot tights and killer shoes. Just looking at it is giving me a pain in my neck. What do you make of this?

High School Musical star Ashley Tisdale arrived in to JFK yesterday clutching her cute puppy Maui. Whilst I have a soft spot for this adorable pet, it was her other arm candy that I'm left lusting after. She was carrying the latest Balenciaga accessory – the Arena ($1,745/about £1060), which is the newest twist on the classic handbag style. The nude colour palette is popular this season and looks great contrasted again the silver hardware. What do you think of this designer tote?

Cruise '10 Trend: Clean, Lean Trousers

With Cruise '10 in full effect, let's stop and evaluate the latest. Frocks and skirts dominated, but what really caught my eye were clean, lean trousers - quite the opposite of crazy harem pants. Instead, trousers ranged from cropped and loose-fitting to tight and body-con. All polished, all pretty. Each style had its own appeal; I can see myself rockin' these silky Roksanda Ilincic trousers to a rooftop party and these Rebecca Taylor pants for a lazy bike ride.
