Fashion Does Rock

Justin's on the cover, and there's lots more where that came from. The Fashion Rocks supplement, to get us all excited for the show Sept. 9, is packed with the freshest names in music and fashion. Beyoncé, Mariah Carey, Keith Urban, Rihanna, Chris Brown, Usher, Mark Ronson, Andre 3000, Pharrell, the Black Eyed Peas, and many more will visually fuse the two arts.

One of my favorite snaps thus far is this one Steven Meisel captured of Sasha Pivovarova and Dhani Harrison, son of Beatle George Harrison. I love their forlorn looks emerging from a pool wearing furs, bohemian layers, and floppy toques. “Sasha’s clothes have an Anita Pallenberg vibe, which I love. Anita is so cool. Fashion Rocks London and Celebrity Party People

Music and fashion collided again at last night's Swarovski Fashion Rocks concert in London. September's NY Fashion Rocks was a different affair, but last night's party was just as star studded. This one played host for quite the group - from movie stars like Naomi, Liev and Uma to supermodels like Naomi (in her crazy unnecessarily see through dress) and bang-y Kate to musicians like Joss Stone and Iggy Pop. Um, I just hope Uma knew how sheer her dress was when she left the house. The musical invitees performed as couture showed on the runway and the rest of the room enjoyed the show. Must have been an incredible party inside. Talk about the most glamorous of rock star lives. Oh to be a fly on that wall, right?

Fashion Rocked Hard Backstage, Too

It looks like backstage was the place where Fashion Rocks' hot performers met up with their spouses like Jennifer with Marc, Usher with Tameka, Mary with Kendu. Pregnant and gorgeous Nicole stayed off her feet while the rest of the lucky backstage pass holders mingled and mixed. That would definitely be a fun group to spend an evening with - though I think I would like to be a fly on the wall of the Tyra/Carrie Underwood conversation most of all (or really anything with Ty-Ty's crazy). Fashion Meets Rock, Creates Fire

The stars looked g-l-a-m on the red carpet, but it all got a little more rock 'n' roll when they hit the stage last night at the Fashion Rocks concert (remember the magazine supplement with J Lo on the cover?), part of NY Fashion Week. The annual event is thrown by Conde Nast and accompanied by an online charity auction. At the show, Jeremy Piven was MC to, as usual, some awesome on stage combinations - Fergie performed with both Ludacris and Aerosmith while Usher sang alongside Mary J. Blige and so many more. You guys were pretty split on your opinions of Jennifer Lopez's new video for Do It Well, but it looks like she killed it last night. Definitely the highlight judging from the pictures. Fashionable Girls Rock The Red Carpet

Last night the ladies continued the black and white trend on the red carpet for Conde Nast's Fashion Rocks concert. Poor Fergie looked a bit jet-lagged while Ashlee looked t-i-n-y in her hot tight gray dress. We can't help but wonder though, where was her sister Jess who is currently in NYC? Jennifer Lopez looked tough but her performance later that evening looked more intense. Jessica Alba wore a dress that hit her in all the right spots but it was Nicole Richie who stole the spotlight with her growing belly and very flattering dress that showed off her new curves. Overall, I may definitely want to learn how to recreate the messy updo but I voted for sure that I was not a fan of Tyra's fierce curled updo. Don't forget to vote on Fab's Love it or hate it polls.

TV Tonight: "Fashion Rocks"

If you subscribe to any Conde Nast magazines, chances are you came across a copy - or, as was the case with me, numerous copies - of the Fashion Rocks supplement, a magazine published annually by the company where pretty outfits and music collide. Tonight, the clothes and the performers come together again at 9 p.m. for a CBS TV special celebrating New York Fashion Week.

Jeremy Piven is hosting the fourth annual installment of the show, which mixes fashion segments with musical performances. How-To: Purposely Messy Updos

Y'know, usually when I think of rock stars, I think of long hair flying around stage. But at tonight's Fashion Rocks event, most of the revelers had their hair pulled up. Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Esposito and Mischa Barton were among the women who went with a messy, imperfect updo-which is exactly the kind of stylish but unfussy look you'd want to wear at a music-meets-fashion event.

There's something really sexy about this, too, because it isn't as buttoned-up as more formal updos can be. And best of all, it's easy to create a variation on this look in just a few minutes. For my tips, read more

After towel-drying hair, spray it with a lightweight styling spray such as Bumble and bumble Styling Lotion ($24). Work it through hair, then use a paddle brush to separate and dry hair with a blow dryer.

For Jennifer Esposito's and Mischa's look, work a small amount of mousse through the hair at the back of your head. This will create volume. Now, I haven't been able to see the back of Jennifer's head, but Mischa is rocking a fancier version of a look I like to call "I have to run to the grocery store and my hair is a mess." Basically, you're going to make a crazy ponytail. Gather most of your hair with one hand, leaving a few face-framing strands loose. Use a Goody clear, "ouchless" hair elastic to create a high ponytail in the back. From there, double up on your ponytail: Divide the ponytail into four sections, then bring one at a time back to the base of your ponytail, securing it with another elastic. I know this sounds complicated, but it really isn't. You know how sometimes you just "fold" a quick-and-messy ponytail into itself so it doesn't hang as long as it normally would? That's the general idea.

For Jennifer Lopez's look, pull your hair straight back (from the front), then gather the hair in the back of your head and pull it into a high ponytail. From there, try wrapping your ponytail around its base-think of the way a piglet's tail does a curlicue-and secure the hair with bobby pins. If your ponytail were a clock, you should be pinning your hair at each "15-minute mark," but you can do more. Don't worry if a few strands jump out! Messy is what you're going for.

On Our Radar: Fashion Rocks Your Tube

I have been craving some good old fashioned fashion television, ie. House of Style, so I was thrilled to hear about Fashion Rocks, a star-studded night when fashion and music collide.

Here's what you can expect from the show, hosted by Jeremy Piven: performances by Aerosmith, Fall Out Boy, Fergie, Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys, Avril Lavigne, Jennifer Lopez, Carrie Underwood, Usher and Ludacris. A handful of other undisclosed "special guests" will also be present. Hopefully there'll be a rockin' runway production too!

Fashion Rocks airs on CBS on Friday, September 7 at 9pm Eastern time.
