Fab Flash: Stella McCartney for GapKids Part 2

Stella McCartney's first ever childrenswear collection landed in Gap stores across the globe earlier this month and has already been so successful that they've snapped her up for another.

The British designer who had previously had a sell-out womenswear collaboration with H&M, created on trend yet practical items for kids which adults wanted for themselves. The best selling item from the line was a military jacket for boys.

Stella will now go on to create another line for Gap Kids and Gap Baby for the Spring which will be available from March 2010. I can't wait to see what she designs, are you glad Stella is doing another collection for Gap?

Gap and Nylon Fête Gap's New Soho Concept Store

The stars spread some holiday cheer last night at Gap's new 8,000-square-foot concept store in Soho. The always-adorable Becki Newton and Emmy Rossum stopped by and tried on scarves and hats. The City's Roxy Olin also made a cameo and left with a bag full of goodies. Good thing because 30 percent of of all purchases benefited Feeding America. There was live music, Christmas trees, candy canes, cozy sweaters, and lots of holiday love to go around.

I recently got an intense urge to fill my closet with a ton of cozy chic sweaters. You know what spurred it? Daria Werbowy's delicious hooded sweater in Vogue Nippon. A-mazing. The key to a great sweater is it not only looking good, but feeling good on your skin, too. That's why you shouldn't skimp in this category - an itchy sweater, no matter how inexpensive, is useless. Liv Tyler attended the Stella McCartney for GapKids pop-up store soiree in Beverly Hills yesterday looking cute as ever in head-to-toe, you guessed it, Stella McCartney. Her silk LBD outfit was in tune with the kid-friendly atmosphere, hence the cute bow belt detail, while gold-trimmed pumps upped her sass factor. The finishing touch? A yellow polka-dot clutch – Stella would be proud.

Stella McCartney for Gap Childrenswear

At the beginning of the Summer, Stella McCartney revealed plans to launch a childrenswear line with Gap. This is the first time the British designer has created clothes for children and I couldn't wait to see what she created. Well, the wait is finally up as images from the ad campaign has just been unveiled. The clothes are gorgeous and play in to trends in a fun way. For example, there are military jackets with a little soldier feel and cute tutu skirts. Being a Mother of three has definitely helped Stella along the way. She has considered the practical elements whilst keeping it fun, for example, some of the pieces come with felt tip pens so the children can customise it themselves.

She explained to WWD,

“A big part of the excitement for me was not just the clothes but the shoes. Because so many people had said to me, ‘I can’t get shoes for my kids that aren’t leather.’”

Move over miniskirts, there's a new leg-baring style in town: warm woolen shorts. They're on the top of my Winter styling list once the weather cools down because of their tomboyish, yet flirty, appeal. Paired with tights, these cozy shorts will keep you looking stylishly warm all season long. I'm going to pair mine with a chambray top and oxfords when I'm feeling quirky, and with booties and a chiffon top for a romantic vibe.

Look up here and say cheese! It is human nature for a woman to think her child is the cutest being that ever crawled the planet but not every mom is savvy enough to recognize the rewards that can come with that precious mug. Proud mamas can enter their babe into Gap's casting call now through Oct. 22. The finalists will take part in a professional photo shoot and will receive a $1,000 redeemable gift card to be used at GapKids or babyGap. They will also enjoy a VIP vacation to either New York or Las Vegas where they will catch a viewing of Disney's The Lion King. And of course, the mommies will gloat when they see their wee one's face lighting up the walls of their local Gap. When that Gap model is all grown up and has generations sitting at her feet, she can pull out those old posters and tell her legacies that she must have been a beautiful baby.

RIP: Donald Fisher, Co-Founder of the Gap

Our hearts go out to the friends and family of Donald Fisher, co-founder of the Gap, who died on Sunday, in San Francisco. Donald founded the American casual label we all know (and love), with his wife Doris in 1969. The company just celebrated its 40th anniversary.

Named for the “generation gap” between Baby Boomers and their parents, the Gap revolutionized retail - the Fishers were inspired by a frustrating shopping experience. The couple had difficulty exchanging an ill-fitting pair of jeans and couldn't find the right denim size with the assortment at local department stores. They opened the first Gap store in the foggy city, sales reached $2 million the following year, and the rest is retail history.

I just found out my dad met Don circa '72 - they did some business together. Don was wearing a denim Levi's suit that my dad coveted and ended up hunting down and buying for himself. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, eh?

With Creative Director Patrick Robinson creating new heat for the established brand, the Gap, and Don's denim doings, live on.
