Tall boots are incredibly hot, and this pair of Sergio Rossi Kimono Embroidered Boots combines two of Fall's biggest tall-boot trends: flat heels and embellished leather styles. These wild and rich boots would definitely stand out in a crowd, with their metallic bronze leather and bold fish embroidery. I particularly like the jeweled buttons that run up and down the sides, though thankfully, the boots actually zip up. But the whole goldfish motif is a little odd, so I can see how they might be a bit off-putting to some people. The Look For Less: Alice + Olivia Velvet Leggings

I can't think of a chicer way to stay warm right now than velvet leggings. They're cozy and luxurious, a more mature cousin of the liquid legging. These Alice + Olivia Velvet Leggings ($128) are one of the many I've spotted. They would look good under dresses, but better on their own. I prefer not pay over $100 for them so I found a cheaper version . . .

These INC International Concepts Velvet Leggings ($39) are slightly cropped but they're equally cute. I especially love the way they hug the leg so tightly. I can see them working well on a romantic date - just imagine the softness he'll feel if he touches your leg! If you don't love the crop, either wear them with tall boots or layer cozy socks over them.

Trend Alert: Round-Toe Tall Boots

Winter boot season is still a few months away, but these Cole Haan Becka Tall Suede Boots are already calling my name. Made from supple yet surprisingly durable suede, this boot will take you anywhere. Pair them with trousers for work, a long skirt or mini for night, or over jeans for a funky look. I also really love these Dolce & Gabbana Leather Boots. Yes, they are quite pricey, but they are so unique and beautiful. I love the color and the burnished-gold, military-inspired buttons. They have a wooden sole and stand at three-and-a-half inches. You can buy them here for $1,550.

For a less-expensive alternative, these Style&co. Chester Tall Buckle Boots are a classic. I adore the double buckle on the top and the round faux buckle accent on the bottom. They are made from leather uppers with a man-made sole, and the heel measures three-and-a-half inches. Buy them here for $129. Available in brown and black.

UGG Australia Classic Tall Metallic Boot: Love It or Hate It?

Shoe Review: Bern High Boot by Keen

The more active you are throughout your workday, the better. When folks wear comfy shoes to work, they walk more; let's face it, speed-walking for 30 minutes at lunch in stilettos is not a good time. That's why I'm on the hunt for stylish, yet comfortable shoes that promote getting up and moving around. With its low heel made of resilient rubber, I'm liking the Bern High Boot by Keen ($150). Since the familiar Mark Twain quote "The coldest Winter I ever spent was a Summer in San Francisco" is completely accurate, I had more than a few days this Summer to test out these boots. Not only are they comfortable and cozy, but Fab approved of them with only one criticism. She liked the buckles, a trend for Fall, and the whip stitching details. But she didn't like the extra rubber bump at the toe, which is unfortunately Keen's trademark. Made of leather and lined with faux shearling, these boots accommodate muscular calves, which can make finding tall boots difficult. The dark rubber sole cushions the feet nicely without leaving black marks everywhere. I walked all about when I wore the boots with no aches, pains, or blisters. Fab Body Guide: Elongate Yourself

You've all heard that black makes you look slimmer and taller. While that's true, it's not the only trick in the book. There are a dozen other ways to elongate yourself without having to look goth. Take a look at the real-life examples below. For The Spirit LA premiere, Eva Mendes chose a Bill Blass maxi that, because it grazed the carpet, made her appear taller. Vertical stripes, as shown in the center editorial, and long cardigans, like on Katie Holmes, can also do the trick. Proceed for more tips.

Maxi Dresses: Like in Eva's case, maxi dresses give the illusion of tallness because they provide one straight line from top to bottom, without any interruptions.
Long Cardigans: It's a misconception that everything long makes you look tall. But a long cardigan, past your waist, is one casual way to do it. The darker the color the better.
Long, Wide-Leg Trousers: Be sure to find a style that grazes the floor, and preferably covers your shoes. They're never to be worn with flats, only high heels!
Platforms: It's no secret that platform shoes can literally add inches to your height. For a more subtle approach, choose a shoe with a hidden platform.
Vertical Stripes: Unlike horizontal stripes, which cut you off, vertical stripes keep going and going.

Trench Coats: A thigh-length trench coat is a slick, sophisticated way to appear tall, especially when worn with over-the-knee boots. Avoid anything longer than the knee, please.
Over-the-Knee Boots: Speaking of over-the-knee boots, ones with high heels will give you an extra boost. Just be sure to wear them with demure clothing; you don't want to look sketchy.
Dark Colors: Black, dark brown, navy, dark gray - these moody hues and others like them are right for looking slim and tall.
Long, Skinny Scarves: Throw on an extra long, extra skinny scarf to take the focus away from your outfit.
Turtlenecks: These give the illusion of a long neck, so they're perfect for those who have a short one.
High-Waist Styles: Whether its skirts, shorts, or pants, if you have a flat tummy, high-waisted styles can make your torso appear inches longer.
Opera Gloves: Unlike cropped gloves, opera styles go past your elbow and make your arms appear super slender.

Simply Fab: Detachable Suede Fringe

A few months back I was on a fringe bootie hunt that proved unsuccessful. I thought, how cool if I made a detachable fringe piece to add to my regular booties? Alas, someone else did the hard work for me! Check out this Boot Hugs Detachable Suede Fringe ($20), which you wrap at the ankle of your booties. It's finished with a drawstring suede cord closure so you can tighten as you wish. I don't recommend pairing it with tall boots - since the fringe is short, it would look silly.
