Fab Ad: J Brand, Fall '09
One of our favorite androgynous models, Freja Beja Erichsen, has been selected as the new face of J Brand. True, she sports fancy clothes on the catwalk, but since her street style is laid-back cool, this partnership makes sense. "We wanted people to look at the campaign and feel a sense of lightness and freedom," said Susie Crippen, cofounder and creative director.
Fab Ad: Chloé Fall '09
I once spoke of the fashion metamorphosis of the house of Chloé and its ad campaign transformation. I feel like when it comes to ads, Chloé has done it all: streets, deserts, beach, and now Spanish wheat fields. This is the second major ad campaign for designer Hannah MacGibbon, and she has stuck with photographer Mikael Jansson.
Fab Ad: Michael Kors, Fall '09
Carmen and Noah are once again muse for Michael Kors, but for Fall, the designer took the hotties off the yacht and into the city. Shot by Mario Testino, the plan was "to reflect the urban nature of the season." The couple is attending a Broadway show.
Fab Ad: Christy Turlington For Yves Saint Laurent Fall '09
For Yves Saint Laurent's Fall '09 campaign, Stefano Pilati channeled the '90s with the help of Christy — no last name needed. Check out the Super, decked out in all black, standing against a simplistic background shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. Christy's makeup and shimmery halter jumpsuit are very throwback, very old school — I'm not sure how I feel about it.
Fab Ad: Intermix's Debut Ad Campaign
Every stylephile knows Intermix, but that won't stop the retailer from upping its game with its first ever ad campaign. "Our customer has evolved and so should we," said an Intermix rep. The artistic image immediately grabs my attention and the model looks youthfully stylish wearing a pair of destructed jeans and a leather jacket.
Fab Ad: Madonna For Louis Vuitton Fall '09
One thing is for sure: Madonna and Marc Jacobs can't get enough of those bunny ears. Louis Vuitton's Fall '09 campaign, shot by Steven Meisel in NYC, captures (an overly) Photoshopped image of the the pop star wearing an outfit similar to the one she proudly paraded to the Met Gala complete with '80s-inspired mesh fingerless gloves and an oversized LV monogrammed bag. Madonna's mannequin-like pose and blemish-free face are too unrealistic for my taste but might appeal to some Material Girl aficionados.
Fab Ad: D&G Fall '09
I don't think Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have the word "simple" in their vocabulary. Their Dolce & Gabbana Fall '09 ads are Vegas-style over-the-top, while their latest D&G Fall '09 ad, shot by Mario Testino, is regally grand. Everything is opulent — the luxurious carpet, the decadent bookshelves, the plush sofa.
Fab Ad: Karlie Kloss for Pringle
As the Summer sales begin, all eyes move to Autumn and more specifically, the ad campaigns! Emma Watson's Burberry campaign has already impressed most of you and here is another for the September issue. The Spring Pringle of Scotland campaigns starred Brit models Pixie Geldof and Daisy Lowe as well as New Yorker Lydia Hearst.
Fab Ad: Bally Fall '09
Brian Atwood is gradually having a heavier hand in Bally's creative vision. Right on. For Fall, the brand stuck with muse Christy Turlington, who is paired up with Oriol Elcacho.
Fab Ad: Valentino Fall '09
If you're in the mood for sexy gloom, Valentino's Fall ad will quench your thirst. The campaign, shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, displays Iris Strubegger in a number of — cough — precarious positions wearing Valentino's high-slit frocks and furry coats. Iris's sharp features and glam makeup pull me in and the clothes are just enough to make me yearn for more.
