Trend Alert: Little Plaid Jackets

I have three, and counting. Even though little plaid jackets feel so right in the Winter, a lighter weight one, or a freshly colored one, can translate for Spring, too. Who's that girl in her LPJ? Why it's the always-adorable Christina Ricci. She teamed hers with skinny jeans, cat-eye sunnies, and a luscious gray Chanel bag. Not too shabby. A look that works for both the city and the country - and the road trip in between.

The Look For Less: Free People Cable Pullover Sweater

Nothing excites me more than Fall-worthy, cozy, oversize cable knit sweaters. But have you noticed there are way too many dorky styles out there? They make the task of finding the perfect one a drag. Luckily, I just stumbled upon this Free People Cable Pullover Sweater ($108). I'm tickled by the varying-sized braids and dolman sleeves. The price isn't ludicrous, but I found one that's equally cozy and less expensive. Let's take a lookie . . .

This Ecote Crop Cable Dolman Sweater ($48) may not be made out of wool, but it's still cozy and cute. It also has different-sized braids and dolman sleeves, and the color is just right. Throw it on over a pair of skinny leather pants and cool boots to counteract the chunkiness.

A Fabby Halloween: Amelia Airhart

Call me kooky, but I always thought her name was Amelia Airhart - "Air" because she pioneered the friendly skies. Her actual name was Amelia Earhart, and I obviously have some learning to do. Good thing a biopic, starring Hilary Swank, is coming out this Fall. I'm a sucker for shearling, plaid, and fun eyegear, and aviator style is super cute. And easy to assemble - but flight goggles are key. You may recall flight of the aviator was a favorite New York Fashion Week Fall trend. Heads up! On-trend sky style heading your way.

Trend Alert: Funky Foliage

Never mind who the cutie is standing alongside Erin O'Connor (if you must know, it's Daniel Stewart), check out the amazing funky foliage necklace she has on. The fluffy silk organza petals add major dimension and texture to her 'fit, but if that's not your thing, fresh floral options also come in silver, gold, and mixed metals. Here's a cool DIY tip: purchase a couple of small silk flowers from your local craft store and glue them on to your existing stash of pearl or metal chains. Done and done.

We have long admired Rihanna's distinct style. We've featured her since she broke out onto the scene - she has since become an icon and an avid fashion show front-rower. One of my coolest New York Fashion Week celeb sightings was Rihanna, at Fashion's Night Out. She endured a dramatic first half of the year, broke free, and appears to be exploring herself and her fashion sense. You never know what she'll try next, but there are some Rihanna-centric pieces if you want to don the singer's style this Halloween. Severe shoulders, bold black, piled-on jewelry, miniskirts, rings galore, and funky shades. As for your Rihanna wig - don't dye it just yet, you never know what concoction she'll come up with next.

Fab Finger Discount: Free People Herringbone Jacket

I own a similar version of this Free People Asymmetrical Herringbone Jacket ($50, originally $150), but it's a lot thinner and made out of silk. I wore it all Summer long, but with recent morning chills, it's not cutting it anymore. I think this thicker, herringbone version will be a good fill-in during Autumn months. I adore the feminine puff-shoulder detail. Wouldn't it look cute paired with a moody floral dress, dense tights, and booties?

The Look For Less: Alexander McQueen Fingerless Gloves

After perusing a selection of gorge(ous) gloves, I came to the realization that I need a pair of fingerless gloves. They remind me of Madonna circa 1980, plus I love the tough-chic vibe. I live in a fairly moderate climate, so these Alexander McQueen Fingerless Gloves ($470) would be a perfect Fall staple. But dang, that much for a pair of leather gloves? I don't think so!
