In their New York Times bestseller Influence, which we've been raving about since day one, the sisters take us on a visual journey of people - photographers, designers, artists, writers, icons - who have influenced them. Considering the girls have already embarked on several successful fashion adventures: The Row, Elizabeth and James, Robert Lee Morris for Elizabeth and James jewelry, and soon-to-come Elizabeth and James shoes, I was curious to see what, and who, influences them.

The book is full of eye candy and insight into the lives of the two powerhouses. The photography and collage pages are brilliant. Freaky or Fabulous? PETA Protests the Olsen Book Signing

Many of us are influenced by the Olsens, be it Mary-Kate or Ashley. But clearly PETA isn't. In fact, members of the organization stood in front of Barnes & Noble in New York City's Union Square yesterday to protest the girls' book, Influence. They wore masks resembling the twins and held up signs insulting their fur-wearing ways. Do MK and Ash deserve this treatment? Tell me, is this act freaky or fabulous?

Who can you scribe has influenced you? The more I think about it, the more people I could pay tribute to. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen looked understated stellar at Barnes and Noble promoting their book, Influence. We can't wait to learn all about who influenced the sisters, but we've already been influenced by their style, and business, prowess.

No Olsen is complete without towering heels. Other than Mary-Kate's black double platform Yves Saint Laurent pumps, she chose a professional LBD. Bare legs do her justice and tousled hair is pretty and easy. Ashley stepped it up in gray suede platforms, The Row liquid leggings, and a silky white double pocket blouse. Both Olsens have influenced me, what about you?

Way back in February I reported that the Olsens were to release a book about their influences interviewing key designers and celebrities that they loved. Well, imagine my excitement when the coffee table book finally landed on my desk this week! The Olsens are busy promoting the book around the US but it isn't released here until 27th November. Pop UK and I are hoping they do a similar signing in London!

The book contains interviews with the who's who of the fashion world including Karl Lagerfeld, Diane Von Furstenberg, John Galliano and Christian Louboutin. To hear excepts from interviews just read more.

The book is packed with images of the girls and key items from their life which are important to them including a vintage Dior robe and a selection of Mary-Kate's sunglasses. There are collages of photos of the girls when they were young and 100s of polaroids of them rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous. I won't spoil too much but here are some excerpts from the key interviews.

John Galliano "If I could host a fantasy party, it would mirror Truman Capote's infamous black-and-white fancy dress soiree. I would invite him, Marie Antoinette, Napoleon, Lord Nelson, Oscar Wilde and all his dandies, Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci as well as Andy Warhol, Leigh Bowery and Picasso, Diana Vreeland, Jackie and JFK – as well as all my mates today, Kate [Moss], Gisele, people with style, people who made a mark, people with panache."
Karl Lagerfeld "I love rings. Sometimes with no gloves I wear even more rings. But I put my rings most of the time here [up on his knuckle and under his gloves], because when you say hello to someone it hurts. Sometimes people are rude and sometimes they really sceam!"
Christian Louboutin "When somebody asks me what my favourite shoe is, I always say, "The one I haven't yet designed." I don't look at the past. I guess I don't have a goal – not a precise one anyway."
Giambattista Valli "I love timeless things and I think art is something really timeless. I don't like trendy things. I like to work on style and not on fashion."

Even if you're not that keen on the Olsens it's a really interesting book. I keep picking it up and reading a different bit and learning something new. They have used their design connections well to bring honest interviews from some of the biggest names in fashion. Influence will be available from the end of November, pre order here for £19.

Karl Lagerfeld Shares Pearls of Wisdom With the Olsens

Earlier this year I reported that the stylish Olsen twins were to release a book about the various influences upon their lives (and most of you wanted to hear about them). Although the book isn't due for release here for another month, small snippets from their interview with Karl Lagerfeld have been revealed.

Their conversation with the Kaiser came round to road safety which revealed hints as to why Karl recently took part in a road safety campaign. Karl explains, "I had two accidents where I fell asleep - after that I thought it was better that I don't drive. I'll get a driver. I'm a bad driver because I want to look there, there, and up there. I get bored easily - so twice I fall asleep and twice the car is destroyed … I had nothing [wrong] with me - but both cars were destroyed."

The twins held nothing back in their interview and even asked Karl how he still stays in shape after his crash diet several years ago. "Nothing … I have a doctor who I made a book with that sold five million copies all over the world...Since I started my diet, which was like eight years ago, I haven't touched what I'm not supposed to: sugar, cheese, nothing! I don't even look at it. It looks to me like plastic."

Influence is due for release in the UK on 27th November (£20).

Dear Poll: Can Friends Be Bad Influences?

Since I know that peer pressure was supposed to end with high school graduation, it continues to amaze me how much people’s friends can influence them. In fact, sometimes it seems like we’re all just products of the people we’re around. Yes, I’m sure it’s true that we’re drawn to those with similar interests, but isn’t it also true that friends can change our perspective on things, sometimes for the worse? Regardless of age, can friends still be bad influences?
