On Our Radar: Chanel to Launch Magazine

Whilst some consumer magazines face closures and cut backs, design houses and retailers are just getting in to the game. American fast fashion store Forever 21 has announced plans to launch a publication this week and Chanel are not far behind. The French design house are working with Purple magazine's Olivier Zahm who is the art director of the glossy to be titled 31 Rue Cambon (which is the location of the first Chanel boutique.)

Meanwhile, whilst rumours of Karl Lagerfeld's retirement won't go away, he spoke out to explain why he isn't leaving just yet. "Retirement is not one of the topics with which I deal. Why should I? I still have so many projects that I sometimes don't know where to begin. Chanel will still need clothes when I'm 89."

Coco Chanel worked until the year of her death in 1971 and Karl has been heading up the fashion house for 27 years! Do you think it's time he considered passing on the reigns to someone else, like Alber Elbaz or Marc Jacobs?

Halloween Look of the Day: Kaiser Karl

Halloween came and went, but I'm still reveling in the aftermath. One of the coolest costumes in the A Fabby Halloween group is Kaiser Karl. Coco von wu did an awesome job of mimicking the fashion great. Love the wig, the glasses, the fingerless gloves - love it all.

Karl Lagerfeld Heads to Argentina for Spring Ad Campaign

Tis the season for new ad campaigns as head designers and their muses line up the best photographers and get snapping for Spring 2010. Earlier this week, I told you that Natalia Vodianova looks likely to be the star of the new Yves Saint Laurent campaign, and now I can reveal another as Claudia Schiffer bags Chanel.

The London based supermodel flew to Argentina last week with Karl Lagerfeld to begin shooting the Spring campaign along with Argentine model Iván de Pineda, Freja Beha Erichsen and, of course, Baptiste Giacobini.

Pineda explained to WWD, “Tango, elegance, antiques, and good sunlight. They’re amazed about the size of Buenos Aires, the beauty, the cuisine, the great cultural offer and especially the buildings and architecture.” Although the official images are yet to be seen, I can share pictures of Claudia in a gaucho hat in a traditional Argentine house. The entourage spent a week in the South American country.

Simply Fab: Karl Lagerfeld Tokidoki Figurine

Karl Lagerfeld has been immortalised in many ways and this week has been honoured with his own Tokidoki figurine. The Japanese-inspired brand have created a 25cm high limited edition version of the designer.

Karl commented, "I am very flattered that I became a Tokidoki. I always loved them and I am very happy to be one of them."

The figurine has been dressed in K Karl Lagerfeld and embellished with rhinestones. It's available at Parisian boutique Colette (€129/£118) and was created by Simone Legno. Mini Karl will also feature on a limited number of t-shirts. The designer caused controversy earlier this week with comments on curvy models.

Say What? Karl Lagerfeld on Moms and Models

"No one wants to see curvy women. You've got fat mothers with their bags of chips sitting in front of the television and saying that thin models are ugly."

- Karl Lagerfeld weighs in on the never-ending debate about thin models. The once-overweight designer was responding to German magazine Brigitte's decision to use only "real women" as models. He disapproves. Based on his comments, it seems Karl doesn't think fashion is meant for a mom who might be carrying a little weight.

This isn't the first time a fashion icon has come to the defense of thin models by shifting the attention to overweight people. Anna Wintour said America should focus on obesity, and not anorexia, following a visit to Minnesota where she said people resemble "little houses."

Fab Blab: Karl Lagerfeld on Curvy Models

Last week, German fashion magazine Brigitte announced plans to ban professional models from its pages. The move was taken in an attempt to address the size zero debate and has received a mixed response. This weekend Karl Lagerfeld added his two cents to the debate.

Speaking to German online magazine Focus, Karl controversially commented. "No one wants to see curvy women. You've got fat mothers with their bags of chips sitting in front of the television and saying that thin models are ugly." He went on to explain that the world of fashion was about "dreams and illusions".

The news comes as London based designer Mark Fast vows to use plus size models again following his much debated catwalk show for Spring 2010. Mark explained, “I didn’t think it would get so much attention. I just thought, ‘They’re beautiful. Let’s do it. Let’s have fun.’” What do you think of Karl's views on curvy women?

Chanel's Barn Bonanza!

Karl does country. It's impossible to guess Karl's next move. And who would have thought it would be to the barn? His Spring collection, replete with stars and spectacles, lightened the mood. The clothes were frilly, feminine, and colorful, adorned with thematic accessories like Chanel clogs, flowers in the hair, and drippy jewels. Prince was there - random - and so were Chanel devotees Rihanna, Claudia Schiffer, Dasha Zhukova, and Clemence Poesy. With Karl playing a part, and Lily Allen serenading, it looked like a thrilling fashion hoedown.

Fashionable Celebrities Stop Everything For Chanel in Paris

After last night's festivities the stars attending Paris Fashion Week headed over to the Chanel Pret a Porter show this morning. Rihanna kept her hands warm in a Chanel muff as buzz continues about her possible relationship with Justin Timberlake. Lily Allen performed to the star-studded crowd with models miming backup vocals. Lily and Prince Are the Star Attractions at Karl's Chanel Show

Lily Allen was the surprise performer at Karl Lagerfeld's Chanel show at Paris Fashion Week today, appearing out of a trapdoor thanks to some clever staging and wowing guests such as Prince, Sean Lennon and Rihanna as models walked around her. Karl's fashion shows are always something pretty spectacular and this was obviously no different as Lily belted out "Not Fair" for the fashionistas! With models miming backing vocals and dancing it certainly looks like the most fun show of Paris Fashion Week!
