Whitney stole the spotlight at a charity gala in New York last night. Her white-draped gown is a fresh take on holiday dressing; and the black sash is added drama. Her oversized green snakeskin clutch provided a vintage touch, while on the other hand a red watch kept her in check - do you think she was purposely mixing the traditional Christmas colors of red and green? Little Black Dresses (the Slightly Larger, Maternity Options)

Any woman will tell you the LBD is a critical wardrobe piece for work and play. You don't have to let go of your favorite always fashionable crutch just because your belly is growing and you're not-so-lil any more - plenty of designers have pretty and chic maternity LBDs.

One of my favorites right now is the abs one shoulder dress (on sale for $150) because it has the same feel of the flowing Maxi dresses Gwen Stefani and Angelina Jolie wore while pregnant with their now infants.

Of course, there are always options with sleeves, shorter hemlines and intricate designs that add a lil flare to the staple.

Love it or Hate it: Bright Deco Maxi Dress

Wearing a maxi dress is a statement saying, it is now Summer! They're a great wardrobe staple because it's a no brainer outfit, just put it on with a pair of sandals and you're done! You don't have to spend ages trying to co-ordinate your entire outfit like you do in the winter. This bright coloured maxi dress is from Warehouse (£85) and 100% silk (sadly meaning it is handwash).

Who Wore It Better? Jenni Kayne Silk Tie Gown

A case of starlet versus stylist. Rachel Zoe donned this Jenni Kayne dress back in October for the designer's LA store opening, while Kristen chose it for the premiere of Forgetting Sarah Marshall; she wore it a good while later, I might say. It seems the prints are inversed, with Rachel's showing more white and Kristen's more of that stunning electric blue. Both chose chunky gold accessories, though Rachel let her hair down in long loose waves and Kristen went for an updo. I think they both bring something different to the dress in a good way. Who do you think wore it better?
