Trend Alert: The Boyfriend Hat

We're going to borrow another one from the boys. Menswear is no new trend, but boyfriend jeans, blazers, and boyfriend shirts have had their run. Ever notice how men have such wonderful hat options? Liv has. She wore this incognito navy hat whilst frolicking with her son, Milo, in NYC. Clearly, it was windy, but that much more picturesque. She tied her whole navy look together with it. Bad hair days begone thanks to the boyfriend hat.

2010 Spring: J.Crew

A kid in a candy store. J.Crew recently presented its Spring confections and I'm salivating already. Jenna Lyons played upon the usual frilly vs. preppy aesthetic, with loads of neutrals and pops of neon. Khaki outerwear atop sequins and cargo shorts are meshed with girlie stripes and soft plaids. Styling is exaggerated - I don't mind, better to inspire. Who else can pull off camo and ruffles? Sandals range from preppy to exotic, and jewelry plays a pretty role. J.Crew even tries its hand at the pantless trend, successfully. Hats and cross-body bags complete the disheveled-chic aesthetic.

Do You Ever Shop in the Mens Department?

Topman's flagship store on Oxford Street is under going a makeover at the moment with the new store being unveiled on Thursday in time for London Fashion Week. The brother of Topshop has long been a key shopping spot for stylish men, but it will soon offer even more with a Rough Trade DJ booth, personal stylists, EAT cafe, Wi-Fi access and Sharps barber. This got me thinking, do you ever stray in to the mens department and find things for yourself?

Fab Ad: Tom Ford Eyewear Fall '09

Last Fall, Tom Ford showed his shades via a dolled-up Liliana Dominguez and fried chicken. This Fall, Ford brought it back to the basics. Nude basics. Tom did the shooting this time and brought in nakie exotic blond Anna Maria Jagodzinska and favorite male model Jon Kortajarena. “I have taken pictures for years, but recently have become more serious about it and have started shooting portraits,” said Ford. Tom has also been busy wrapping up his film A Single Man, debuting at the Venice Film Festival Sept. 11. Quiksilver's Quick Fix

Always at the forefront of all things fresh, Quiksilver has teamed up with The Standard hotels to make co-branded men’s and women’s swimsuits to be distributed via vending machines poolside at the hotel's four properties and online at ShoptheStandard.com.

Joshua Katz, director of marketing and communications at Quiksilver Inc., explains, “This is a 24-hour customer, and a lot of times they might not have a swimsuit but want to take a late-night swim, after the hotel’s boutique is closed.”

For added flavor, each design has a "Quik City Guide" on the inside waistband, with addresses of local places of interest. The vending machines will also dispense zines and $10 works of art from local artists. Four men's retro-inspired men's styles will be available as well as a classic black string bikini for the ladies. Step right up.

On Our Radar: Mark Ronson for Gucci

Mark Ronson is a very stylish man, and it hasn't gone unnoticed by Frida Giannini. The Gucci Creative Director has teamed up with the producer to create a line of limited edition trainers. The footwear incorporates Gucci's logo and iconic red and green web detail along with silver or gold metal dog tags and will be available as part of the design houses world tour. Frida commented, "From the moment I first sat down with Mark we connected. He has a great eye for design and an amazing knowledge of sneaker history. He is an artist whose influence is cross-cultural and cross-generational."

The shoes will come with a custom 12-inch vinyl record with exclusive tracks produced by Mark. He explained, "I spent many many years as an avid sneaker collector, so I wanted to make sure these Gucci shoes were truly special, both from an aesthetic point of view and a collectable one." The Gucci flash store opens in New York before traveling to Miami, London, Berlin, Paris, Hong Kong and Tokyo.

Diane Kruger Bow Tied and Suspendered: Love It or Hate It?

One time, I tried wearing a bow tie and suspenders and ended up looking more like a waiter than a fashionista. Boo. At the Inglourious Basterds premiere in Australia, Diane Kruger stepped out wearing a Chanel ensemble, consisting of a sleeveless white shirt, dotted bow-tie, black suspenders, and black tapered trousers. I'm semienvious she has the confidence to wear not one but two men's pieces on the red carpet. No matter what Diane is wearing up top, she always wears feminine footwear, this time Christian Louboutin Mary Janes. Do you approve of this androgyny, or is it too literal for your taste?
