Look From Emanuel Ungaro Fall 2007: Love It or Hate It?

This look is my computer wallpaper right now. It may be because I am sporting cobalt blue nail polish, it may be because I am a sucker for sequins, for whatever reason I love this dress. Although I would have no place to wear it, if I were a diva like Carmen Electra I would totally work this. Although I think the model could use some color on her legs! I know what you're going to say: it's a bit too ice skater costumey but aside from that, do you love it or hate it?

Paris Fashion Week Beauty: The Look at Louis Vuitton

Paris Fashion Week is the ultimate fashion event of the season. It is when the who's who in fashion and beauty jet set to The City of Light to canoodle in couture. Last weekend, the highly anticipated Louis Vuitton show took place. A special shout out to Marc Jacobs who is celebrating his tenth anniversary there this year!

The show featured tons of soon-to-covet accessories from berets to patent and shearling bags, brushed-gold buckled belts and shiny boots.

The clothes were dark with red, bronze and blue pieces mixed in. There was a lot of leather items featured as well as over-sized sweaters with fitted pants, tailored clothing (pencil skirts, slim pants and jackets) and of course LBD's.

As for beauty, the look was fairly simple. Hair was parted down the middle and secured in a low, teased ponytail so that hair accessories such as floppy hats and berets could be easily modeled. Makeup was neutral and smooth with an accent on heavily lined-wing eyes.

Face: Begin by moisturizing the face with a hydrating cream such as: Oil of Olay Complete Defense Daily UV Moisturizer SPF 30. Next, apply concealer under your eyes and to any blemishes or red areas. Then, blend a foundation such as: Pan-Cake Water-Activated Foundation by Max Factor all over your face and top with a powder to set.
Eyes: Begin with a bone colored shadow and apply it all over your eyelids. Then apply a medium colored brown shadow from the lid to the crease and a darker brown in the crease. Try something like MAXeye Shadows in Beach Brown.
Next, choose a liquid eyeliner like Linemaker Waterproof MAXeye Line by Max Factor in black and beginning from the inner corners and working your way out, line eyes about 3-4 millimeters thick. Be sure and extend the line at least 3 mm outward to create a cat-like effect. Gradually make the line thinner until it becomes a point.
Cheeks: Cheeks were soft at the show. All you really need is a light touch of color on your apples and your cheekbones. It is important to use long strokes for this look so that it is as natural looking as possible. Try Max Factor's Natural Brush-On Satin Blush in peach spice.
Lips: Lastly, lips were ever so slightly enhanced with just a touch of a hydrating pink colored lipstick about one to two shades darker than the models natural color of their lips. Try something like Colour Perfection Lipstick in Flushed by Max Factor for a natural pink shade and apply with a lip brush.

Paris Fashion Week, Fall 2007: Nina Ricci

Belgian-born designer Olivier Theyskens is now at the helm of Nina Ricci. You can see his street fashion cred and moody perspective in this Fall 2007 collection.

I thought it was an emotional back and forth between drifting heavenly visions and sadly beautiful waifs. If the white-grey-yellow color story or asymmetrical ruffling looks familiar it's because this was the designer Reese Witherspoon chose to wear throughout awards show season. And we all know it worked for her. It is this juxtaposition of light and dark, happy and sad, that worked for Reese. While she constantly looked dynamite, amidst a divorce, there has to be some sadness dwelling behind that killer smile and bright blue eyes. Just a thought, but I see Reese's strength, but undeniable sadness, on this catwalk. Fluid tailoring, tear-drop shaped blousons, and deconstructed, ie. wrinkled, gowns were fresh, although questionably wearable. Speaking of questionably wearable, dig the feathers in the hair - a magical touch.

Paris Fashion Week, Fall 2007: Giambattista Valli

Giambattista Valli is one Italian designer who delivered a sharp, romantic Fall 2007 collection. Sharp romance? Check it out...

While black tends to get monotonous on the runways for me, Valli's black was different. Using rich fabrics and smart contouring, this black made me wish I was an agent of chic espionage. The rest of the collection was just as wonderful with a solid color palette of grey, red, yellow and cream, and abstract prints thrown in for good measure. Super smart ruffling and bows personified the sharp romance I'm speaking of; these aren't your pretty proper ruffles and bows, these are modern, strong feminine touches. Experimental proportions occurred, but it felt right here with the bold colors and luxurious materials. The hot platforms and colored jewel adornments added glorious theatrics. Bravo!

Paris Fashion Week, Fall 2007: Chanel

Here is Karl Lagerfeld's winter wonderland. And what a joy it is! The Chanel Fall 2007 collection was not as jaw dropping as the sharp, masterfully black and white Spring collection but it was yummy nonetheless.

Joining Marc Jacobs on the ice skating rink (now there's a funny visual), this collection was youthful and fun. I don't recall such a colorful collection from Chanel in so long! A plethora of Nordic prints, patent detailing and colorful tweeds lightened the mood. Dresses styled over pants were a cool twist; crimped hair added zest. The finale dresses are guaranteed winners with sharp draping, sequin accents and roped straps. A jeweled bib on a modern black dress made me swoon. And look at how cute this Lagerfeld penguin is on this sweater? Too cute for school!

Paris Fashion Week, Fall 2007: Stella McCartney

Er Stella, not so sure about this one. Stella McCartney's Fall collection was disconnected. I don't know how it went from a perfect fuchsia sexy little ruffled dress to a colossal fluffy faux fur coat. Maybe she was playing with contrasts but the models looked a lot happier in the sexy, tailored looks. Although, there were a few standouts (phew!).

Stella always manages to deliver sexy v-neck boyfriend sweaters but I wasn't so keen on what was going on with the bottom half of these looks. Were those skirts or just flippy bits of fabric? One last dis: the tuxedo styles were fun and sharp but I feel like I've seen them before...But in the end, it was refreshing to see bare legs and the few expertly crafted chili pepper pieces were fabulous. This over sized poncho was the one piece that communicated the overtly boxy silhouette but still managed to deliver strong appeal. Better luck next season Stella.

Paris Fashion Week, Fall 2007: Balenciaga

What do tweeds, tie dye and track pants have in common? Nicolas Ghesquière's Fall 2007 Balenciaga collection. At first glance I thought this was a doomed hodge podge of ideas but after viewing the whole presentation I was elated by the intriguing mixmastering.

What a departure from his cyborg-beauties-on-steroids Spring collection! He has softened his perspective and this Fall's offerings are sure to have much broader appeal. While some may be taken aback by the white eyebrows and haphazard pairings, I thought it was inspirational. The rules no longer apply: you can and should mix and match! My favorite pieces were the prep school blazers, especially the ones with fur collars, and the crazy unique silk dresses. But once again with the jodhpurs! Sighted at Roberto Cavalli, I'm sorry but this is a Fall trend I will not be partaking in.

Paris Fashion Week, Fall 2007: Christian Dior

John Galliano presented an exquisite Christian Dior collection yesterday. I saw a tribute to Christian Dior's original 'New Look' from the 40s mixed with old Hollywood glamour and a sprinkling of Japanese sensibility, a wonderful combination if you ask me.

Bold, subtly theatrical looks trotted down the catwalk in a crayola box of colors. Skirts were both full and slim and tiny waists were accentuated. Glamour elements were: big dazzling jewels, gloves, fur trim and Veronica Lake curls. Clean, animated origami folding took the collection to a further far away land than Tinsel Town. This collection was surprisingly wearable and gorgeous - sure to be a hit with the fashion elite.

Paris Fashion Week: Yves Saint Laurent

The Paris Fashion Week show from Yves Saint Laurent was a true triumph. The elation was cut short, however, when the label's 70-year-old founder collapsed Friday on a Paris street, just one day after the stunning collection was unveiled. People magazine reports:

"Saint Laurent is fine, according to a spokesman for Foundation Yves St. Laurent, who tells People that the designer checked out of the hospital and is home recuperating from the fall. ... Since 2002, there have been widespread reports of Saint-Laurent's ill-health, peppered with anecdotes about alcohol and drug abuse, depression and even the closure of his once fabled couture house – though the YSL brand still continues today through the parent company of Gucci."

In fact, the YSL brand is now having a bright, shining moment, thanks to the Spring 2007 collection designed by Stefano Pilati. Shown on a runway covered in a lush lawn planted with purple flowers, the garden-inspired collection featured everything from country checkered patterns to elegant purple gowns with floral adornments. New York Fashion Week, Fall 2007: Jackie Rogers

Jackie Rogers began her career as an original model for Coco Chanel, a singer, a movie starlet and eventually an owner of a NYC boutique. She made it a point to work with the exciting "Mademoiselle" on some of her collections all the while absorbing her technique. Jackie now has her own line which is no doubt inspired by her mentor. They are classy, creative and extremely elegant.

On Saturday afternoon I had the pleasure of attending her show - and at a rather unexpected location. The setting was at Scores West (yes, the strip club) and the theme, "After The Deluge" was influenced by the 30's Bauhaus Movement in Berlin, Paris and New York around the time of WWII.

The clothing was delivered in three phases. The first was black, white, grey and silver fabrics adorned with ruffles, patent leather bow belts, fetish bustiers and silk flowers. The second introduced both bright and muted fall colored day wear in softer fabrics accented with sable and silver-fox hoods and trim. The third displayed evening wear in flowy satin jewel tones as well as ethereal silver/gold lame gowns. The collection consisted of an array of suits, cocktail dresses, formal dresses, skirts and tops for both chic young women as well as the older seductress.

Although there were a team of hair and makeup artists behind the show, Maria Ashe was the lady with the vision. As the president of beauty ADDICTS Makeup Company, she collaborated with Jackie Rogers to come up with the strong and confident beauty look.

There was no color applied to the face; only foundation and contouring. This made the splash of red on the lips the show stopper. There was also sealant added to the lips to keep them shiny as well as ensure they wouldn't feather, fade or bleed during clothing changes.

The eyes were something really special. They were created with the solutionEYES Seduce Palette with heavy eyeliner and no false eyelashes - just gobs and gobs of mascara, reminiscent of the 30's style of makeup. Next, to create a lacquered effect, white gold lip gloss was applied over the dark shadow as well as below the brow bone as a highlighter.

Overall, I was very impressed with the collection, it is definitely for a woman looking to make a statement. It is no surprise that Jackie has dressed so many recognizable women such as: Lee Radziwell, Jackie Onassis, Diana Ross, Nicoke Kidman, Condaleeza Rice, Gwyneth Paltrow, Julianne Moore, and Salma Hayek.
